    A Walk around Central Park

    Central Park brings a breath of fresh air to New York’s urban surroundings. What started out as a rocky and desolate northern fringe rapidly expanded into one of New York’s most famous and beloved parks.

    Your walking tour will take you through the main hub of the park located in the southern half. As you meander through the winding pedestrian pathways, your guide will explain the history and design of the park and highlight its attractions. En route, you’ll stop at areas such as Central Park Mall, Bethesda Fountain, Strawberry Fields and Central Park’s Belvedere. You’ll also have the opportunity to stroll through ‘The Ramble’, a tranquil wooded area that offers a forest feel.

    A short stop will also be made at the park’s landmark Loeb Boathouse Express Café. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to purchase a drink if you wish or simply admire the lovely surroundings.

    Afterwards, your return drive will take you around the outskirts of the northern half of Central Park. A short photograph stop will be made at a lovely secluded oasis, the Conservatory Garden, before heading back to the pier.

    This excursion will operate by minibus and on foot. This tour involves around 2½ hours of walking over varying terrain, including slight inclines and some steps. Flat, comfortable walking shoes are essential. This tour will operate come rain or shine and guests should dress appropriately according to the weather.     Take a drive through the dynamic streets of Manhattan and absorb the sights as you sweep along Broadway.

    A stop will be made at the 9/11 Memorial to view the water features that sit within the original footprints of the twin towers. These poignantly display the names of those who lives were sadly lost. You’ll then walk through the financial district and view iconic sights such as Wall Street, and the New York Stock Exchange (exterior view only). A brief stop will also be made at Battery Park where you can view the Statue of Liberty in the distance.

    Afterwards, you’ll rejoin your bus for a drive through the vibrant areas of Greenwich Village and Soho and onto the Chelsea area, also known as the ‘Meatpacking District’. Here, you’ll walk the High Line, an old elevated railway situated 30 feet above the city’s west side. Today it has been transformed into a park with meandering pathways, street artwork and views that look down over the bustling city streets, and it is amongst New York’s most visited attractions.

    After the High Line, you’ll have some free time to mingle with the locals at the bustling Chelsea Food Market, before heading back to the pier.

    Take a drive to the Upper West Side, where a stop will be made near to the Dakota building, where John Lennon once lived. From here, you’ll enjoy a short walking tour through Central Park, New York’s historic landmark and one of the most famous parks in the world.

    Next it’s off to visit the Rockefeller Building with its open-air observation deck, which was opened in 1933 by John D Rockefeller to the amazement of New Yorkers. Designed in homage to ocean liners of the day, it quickly became ‘the’ place to view the city. The ‘Top of the Rock’ is said to be one of the best places to see some fantastic views of the city.

    After you come back down to Earth, your drive will take you through the midtown area and a stop will be made the Grand Central Terminal, both a transportation hub and destination in itself for visitors to New York City. The charming beaux-arts building has undergone restoration to bring it back to its former glory. Here, you can enjoy some free time and purchase some lunch before taking a drive through the financial district. Close by is the 9/11 Memorial, where a stop will be made for you to view the water features that sit within the original footprints of the twin towers. The names of those lives that were sadly lost are inscribed in bronze on parapets around the edges of each of water feature, and are a serene tribute.

    You’ll then head to the thriving community of Williamsburg to enjoy a short stop to explore, before returning to the pier.

    After a brief drive to Battery Park, at the southern tip of Manhattan, you will board the ferry and take in the sites of New York Harbour including beautiful views of the city including Brooklyn and its famous bridge, Staten Island, New Jersey and the Manhattan skyline in the distance.

    Upon reaching Liberty Island, enjoy some time to walk around the base of this magnificent statue. There will also be a short time to visit the gift shop and enjoy some of the exterior exhibits.     Re-boarding the ferry, you will continue on to Ellis Island, another National Historic Landmark. Ellis Island was the main immigration centre for the United States from 1892 until World War II. More than 12 million immigrants were processed at the island, and today over 40% of Americans can trace some part of their ancestry back to Ellis Island. You will have approximately 1½ hour to explore the museum on your own.

Your boat cruise will take in the Brooklyn Bridge, and the city’s skyscrapers, such as the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. You’ll pass by Staten Island, and Ellis Island, the immigrant gateway to America, and you’ll also see the famous Statue of Liberty.

    Back on dry land, you’ll rejoin your open top bus for the return drive to the pier.

    This excursion will operate by open top bus, boat and on foot. This tour is accompanied by a local guide. There is limited walking on this tour, however guests must be able to negotiate steps on to and off the bus and steps up to the top deck. A degree of agility is required when boarding the boat and there are steps to the upper deck. Guests should be prepared for a 30 minute wait (standing) to board the cruise boat. The South Street Seaport is still under renovation following the damage by Hurricane Sandy in 2015, which is still quite evident. Refreshments are available for purchase on the boat if required. Please remember local currency. The Skyline Harbor cruise boat is not exclusive to Cunard and bookings are open to the general public and tourists alike. The itinerary may operate in reverse order and it is not possible to disembark at the Statue of Liberty. The boat cruise is around 90 minutes.     Take a walk across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge that stretches across the East River, connecting Manhattan and Brooklyn.

    Setting off from the pier, you will drive to the Manhattan entrance of the Brooklyn Bridge, where your leisurely walk will begin.

    As you stroll along the walkway, you will see benches and historic plaques en route that offer an insight into the history of the bridge. There will be plenty of photographic opportunities and impressive views to admire, including the nearby Manhattan Bridge, and if you take a look skyward you may be lucky enough to spot one of the Peregrine Falcons that sometimes perch on the bridge’s cables.

    As you reach the end of the Brooklyn Bridge, your walk will continue to Fulton Landing, the historical site once known as Brookland Ferry and made famous during the Battle of Brooklyn. Enjoy a little free time to stroll around and perhaps purchase a refreshment, and to admire the picture perfect view of the skyline of the Big Apple.

    Afterwards, rejoin your bus for the return drive to Manhattan, passing by landmarks such as Times Square, the Financial District and the World Trade Centre, before returning to the pier.

    This excursion will operate by bus and on foot. This tour involves around two hours of leisurely walking. The bridge terrain is paved and wooden terrain, which is relatively flat. The bridge walk lasts around 1¼ hours and covers a length of 1½ miles. There are around 25 steps to exit the bridge. The walk to Fulton Landing is around 10-15 minutes and is over hilly, paved and cobblestoned terrain. Flat, comfortable walking shoes are essential. The Brooklyn Bridge is undergoing a program of renovation which may cause some obstruction to views. This tour may, on occasions, have to operate from the Brooklyn side of the bridge.

    Peer down over Central Park, see the Hudson River and New York Harbour and catch sight of the city’s famous skyscrapers. You’ll also view from above the incredible Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and fly over Greenwich Village and the Brooklyn Bridge.

    Your flight will encompass many more wonderful views for you to enjoy, before finally landing back at the Heliport.

    This excursion will operate by minibus and helicopter. This tour is non-refundable once booked. Children must be three years and over. There is a strict weight restriction of 20 stone per person and a recommended height of no more than six feet and four inches. Your weight and height will be requested on board and must be accurate, as this determines the helicopter configuration. If a guest is over the stated restrictions they will be charged for an additional seat. The helicopter seats six guests, with one front seat and a row of three and two seats in the rear. The middle seat affords views out of both sides, but is not directly beside a window. Seating is allocated on the day and preferences cannot be made. Total flight time is around 15 minutes.
