Lanzarote cruises

It’s easy to understand why Lanzarote is so popular. It has so much to offer. Being a volcanic island, the scenery is lush and fertile, making Fire Mountain and the curious vineyards at Le Geria ‘must do’ visits. Timanfaya National Park is a vivid volcanic showcase. Here water poured into boreholes hisses back out as steam and you can feast on specialities cooked by the earth’s heat.

Please note: The shore excursions listed are typical for this port. The full programme of shore excursions available for your cruise will be displayed on Cruise Personaliser at least 12 weeks prior to departure.

    Discover the North

Your scenic drive through the extraordinary landscape of Lanzarote takes you north to visit Teguise, the ancient capital. Teguise acts as a relaxing escape for many locals, and a visit makes you feel like you are stepping back in time, as you appreciate the history, traditional architecture and customs.

A stop will be made at Haria, the capital of the municipality, characterised by beautiful landscapes, crystal clear waters and stunning view of the Valley of a Thousand Palms. • Mountain of Fire

It’s simply the ‘must see sight’ in Lanzarote – Fire Mountain at Timanfaya National Park.

    Mountain of Fire

Fire Mountain was born from a spectacular volcanic eruption over 280 years ago. As you drive through the haunting scenery of dark, barren lava cinders topped by brooding ochre and violet volcano cones, you’ll witness at close-hand, a lunar landscape whose images nourish the imagination. Have your camera ready, as a guide performs some amazing experiments to demonstrate the violent forces beneath the earth’s crust, proving that the volcano is certainly not extinct, but only dormant.

Vineyards dot the landscape with the vines, protected by semi-circular stonewalls, making them look more like art than agriculture. A visit will be made to a ‘bodega’ for you to try one of the local wines. A short stop will be made at the Aloe Vera Farm on the return journey to your ship.

This excursion will operate by coach. Guests are advised to take a wrap or jacket with them, as it may be windy up on Fire Mountain. Please note that Fire Mountain National Park is a popular tourist attraction, which could result in delays on entrance. Comfortable, flat, closed toe, walking shoes are recommended. This tour travels along some winding mountain roads. The ground at Fire Mountain is sloping in parts.

    North Island 4x4 Adventure

A 4x4 vehicle is your ticket to exploring north Lanzarote’s most stunning landscapes and viewpoints on this small-group tour.

Journeying along the coast you’ll visit Caléton Blanco – a spectacular white sand beach where crystal-clear water and black rocks made of volcanic lava create a dramatic scene. You’ll also visit some of the island’s best viewpoints – a great chance to get some wall-worthy holiday snaps and capture the surprising diversity of the island. Look down over sweeping Famara Bay and pause at Mirador de los Helechos, where you’ll be greeted by fabulous views of the valley below (known as the Valley of 1000 Palms) and the village of Haria. If you’re wondering just why this is one of the most lush areas on the island, it’s all down to the past tradition of planting two palms for every baby boy born and one for every girl.

Finally, you’ll pay a visit to a local winery to learn more about the wine-making process and taste some of the local wines. If you find one that hits just the right spot, the wines will of course be available to buy.

  • The Magic Of Manrique

Born in Arrecife, Cesar Manrique adored Lanzarote and its lava landscape. Everywhere you turn, you’ll see his masterpieces.

    The Magic Of Manrique

Cesar Manrique was, without a doubt, the most important artist in the Canary Islands. Known as a painter, architect, builder and sculptor, he was also an ecologist to the core and loathed all signs of modern construction.

Head north and marvel at the Jameos del Agua cave, the fascinating result of volcanic activity combined with Cesar Manrique’s architectural talent. Try to spot the little, blind crabs, unique in the world and found only in this salt-water lagoon.

Near San Bartolome, discover another of Cesar Manrique’s creations: el Monumento al Campesino – the Monument to the Peasant, with which he paid tribute to the centuries of farm work of Lanzarote's men and women.

Visit Manrique’s home, which epitomises his true talent. Cesar Manrique’s Foundation is half submerged in volcanic bubbles and painted in dazzling white and jet black throughout. Since Manrique’s death, the house has become an art gallery to his own private collection.

View the large glass windows, which display the lava landscape outside – take a deep breath, as the lava appears to rush through towards you. Witness the 18th century lava flow on which the house is built, before descending to the bottom floor and the ‘bubble rooms’, created during volcanic eruptions in the 1700’s.

This excursion will operate by coach and on foot. This tour involves approximately two hours of total walking including steps, uneven ground and low ceilings at Cesar Manrique House.

In Los Hervideros a series of curiously-shaped caves and blow holes formed by lava cause the incoming waves to froth and foam, while in El Golfo, a different spectacle awaits you; this time in the form of a unique green lake (said to be filled with volcanic minerals and micro-organisms) and a half-submerged volcanic cone.

After a stop at Degollada to enjoy the views, you’ll continue to La Geria. Here, the perks of all this volcanic activity are made crystal-clear via the fertile soil – perfect for grape vines. In this region they are planted in a particularly intriguing way though, so you can look forward to a wine tour with a difference. Sample a glass of locally-produced wine before re-boarding your jeep for the return journey to your ship.

  • Hidden Lanzarote

An opportunity to uncover the north of the island, including a visit to the Aloe Vera Farm and Manrique's Jardin de Cactus.

    Hidden Lanzarote

As you travel northwards, enjoy a visit to the Monumento al Campesino, created by Cesar Manrique, and the small Casa Museum, an old restored farmhouse that holds a collection of implements used in past times. You will also enjoy a photograph stop at the Haria viewpoint, which offers breathtaking views of the northern headland and neighbouring islands.

Your journey will continue to the Aloe Vera Farm tucked away in the village of Orzola. Aloe vera is a typical plant of warmer regions and one that grows exceptionally well on the island of Lanzarote. The plant is used for a multitude of purposes, from preventing wound infection to being a valuable ingredient of skincare, it can even be taken orally. During your visit you will have the opportunity to try some aloe juice or liqueur.

Afterwards, you will head to Manrique's Jardin de Cactus, filled with over 1,500 cacti from more than 100 different species found in Lanzarote, America and Madagascar. The Garden is a stone-built enclosure and provides a stunning background for these unusual plants. It is also in this area that the cochineal beetle has been cultivated. The beetle lives on cacti and its larvae are used to produce the valuable red colourant, cochineal, formerly found in drinks such as Campari.

During your visit, enjoy some time to wander around the garden and relax with a refreshment at the on-site café, before the return drive to the port.

This excursion will operate by coach and on foot. This tour involves around 1½ hours of walking over some cobblestoned, uneven and gravel ground, including steps. Comfortable, flat shoes are recommended.
