Most general travel insurance policies don’t cover cruises, and will include a general exclusion such as “this policy will not cover you for any loss, damage, cost or expense directly or indirectly caused by any trip on sea-going cruise ships.”
Cruise cover is important for guests to have because it makes sure all sections of the travel insurance policy are operative while on a cruise holiday.
At Holiday Extras, our cruise cover will also extend to include specific cruise benefits such as:

<li>Missed port benefit, paid on a per port basis, usually to a maximum limit.</li>
<li>Cabin confinement benefit, paid on a per day basis up to a maximum limit.</li>
<li>Missed excursion cover in the event that you are confined to your cabin and unable to participate in a pre-booked excursion.</li>
<li>Additional personal effects and baggage to supplement the limit under the standard policy cover.</li>
<li>Evening wear cover.</li>
</ul>

What does cruise insurance cover which is different to general travel cover?

If you’ve bought insurance through Holiday Extras and need to cancel your trip, you’ll be able to move your policy to another date or cancel your policy. If you cancel during your policy's initial 14-day cooling-off period, you'll be eligible for a full refund, providing you haven't travelled or intend to make a claim.
Cancellations outside of the 14-day cooling-off period won't be eligible for a refund, but discretion may be applied depending on your circumstances.

What happens if I buy insurance through Holiday Extras but need to cancel my cruise last minute and no longer need insurance cover? Do I get my money spent on the policy back?

The drier season lasts from December until March, so this is perhaps the most reliable time to cruise in terms of weather. Even so, humidity and temperature are likely to be high, and the varied terrain and elevation mean that weather will vary a lot, depending on how far you travel. If you don't mind the rain, visit in September and October, when the rainforests are at their greenest and most impressive.

What is the best month to cruise the Panama Canal and Central America?

Humidity and heat are plentiful in this part of the world. Bring light, breathable clothes for maximum comfort, so you can add or remove layers as the temperature varies along your cruise route, and include sunscreen, a hat and glasses in your luggage too. A waterproof jacket is recommended, even in the drier season. Be sure to include comfortable walking shoes for on shore exploration, as the terrain can be rough and some of the more spectacular sights require hiking. We also recommend binoculars and a decent camera so you can treasure the experience for years to come. Lastly, bring along swimwear so you can make the most of our on-board pools and spa facilities, and formalwear for our famous Gala Evenings.
