Yes - you can view the Northern Lights on one of our Norwegian cruises, however we can't guarantee their appearance! The aurora borealis is near impossible to predict, but sightings are more likely on clear nights between October and March, and odds increase the further north you travel. Cruises to Tromsø, the capital of the Arctic, should give you a decent chance.

Can you see the Northern Lights on a Norway cruise?

No. The Northern Lights are caused by solar winds interacting with the Earth's magnetic field, and isn't affected by our normal weather systems. However the lights can be obscured by clouds and can be drowned out by strong moonlight, so choosing a clear night at the right part of the lunar cycle gives you the best chance. The rest is luck!

Do the Northern Lights happen every night?

This is a difficult question to answer, as sightings are more dependent on cloud cover and luck than anything else, and the weather is so varied around the Norwegian coast.
In January-March the nights are longer and there tend to be fewer snow clouds blocking the view, but in autumn the weather is milder, and has had some fantastic light displays in recent years. November and December can be good for sightings too, but we suggest wrapping up extra warm!

What month is best to see the Northern Lights?

A general rule is that the further north you go, the better your chances of seeing the Northern Lights. Norway is perhaps the most popular country for a Northern Lights cruise, though Iceland is also a good choice. Cunard offers cruises within the Arctic Circle visiting the Norwegian city of Tromsø, which is a known place to view the aurora borealis.

Few towns are located in as magnificent surroundings as Narvik. With mountains and fjords&nbsp;as far as the eye can see, a trip on Narvik's cable car offers stunning views, 650 metres above sea level.

Yes, you can place upgrade offers on multiple stateroom types, but cannot offer on an individual stateroom type more than once.

No. We will automatically allocate you an upgraded stateroom if your upgrade offer is&nbsp;accepted.
If you have already selected or have been allocated a stateroom number, there is no&nbsp;guarantee this stateroom will be available once your upgrade offer is accepted. If this is the case you will be allocated an alternative statement in the original grade booked.

Can I refuse the upgraded stateroom if I don’t like it and be moved back to my original stateroom?

After booking your voyage, you may be given the option of placing an offer on an accommodation upgrade through our <a title="Cunard Stateroom Upgrade programme" aria-label="Cunard Stateroom Upgrade programme" href="https://www.cunard.com/en-gb/stateroom-upgrade">Cunard Upgrade</a> programme.
If you’re eligible, you’ll be sent an email from us to access the <a title="Submit a Cunard Upgrade offer" aria-label="Submit a Cunard Upgrade offer" href="https://upg.plusgrade.com/marketing/partner/AzXwWJzSCUN">Cunard Upgrade website</a>. Once you’re there, simply choose an accommodation upgrade from the list provided, and make us an offer of how much you’d be happy to pay to upgrade to that stateroom or suite.
Your booking will be automatically updated once we’ve accepted your offer.

Can I upgrade my stateroom after booking?

Future Cruise Credit (FCC) that can be applied as a payment can be used on your upgrade. When you make your upgrade offer, you can request that your payment be made with your FCC.

Can I use an FCC to cover the cost of my upgrade?

All upgrades are based on two guests sharing a stateroom.&nbsp;&nbsp;
If you are travelling solo you will pay 200% of the offer you make.&nbsp;
If there are more than two people in your stateroom only the first two guests will pay for the upgrade.

How do I apply for a stateroom upgrade if I am sailing solo or with a larger group?

Yes, any amount you upgrade offer for an upgrade is in addition to the cost of your original booking.

Is my upgrade offer in addition to what I’ve already paid for my voyage?

The amount is per guest for the entire duration of the voyage. Upgrade offers are based on two guests per stateroom.

Is the amount of the upgrade offer per person per day or for the whole voyage?

Yes, if you have already booked an accessible/wheelchair stateroom we will only upgrade you if an accessible stateroom is available at your chosen higher stateroom grade.

I’ve booked an accessible/wheelchair stateroom, will the upgraded stateroom still be accessible?

You will receive an email approximately 6 days before your sail date to let you know that your upgrade offer was unsuccessful. You won’t be charged any additional amount, and you’ll stay in the stateroom you originally booked.

What happens if my upgrade offer is not accepted?

The Cunard Upgrade programme gives you the opportunity to upgrade to a higher-grade stateroom at a price you are willing to pay. Once all upgrade offers have been considered and assigned, complimentary upgrades will be reviewed and guests who have booked a Cunard Fare will be given first priority for these.

What is the difference between the Cunard Upgrade programme and the complimentary upgrade I opted into at the time of booking?

Payment must be received within 72 hours of your upgrade offer being accepted, you will receive an email confirming your offer has been accepted and a booking confirmation showing your outstanding balance. In exceptional circumstances, we may accept an upgrade within 7 days and in these instances, we will require immediate payment.

When do I pay for my upgrade?

Your upgrade offer can be accepted anytime from the moment it is submitted.
We will endeavour to tell guests at least 7 days prior to the cruise departure if they have been successful. However, in exceptional circumstances, we reserve the right to upgrade guests up until 1 day prior to departure.
We will automatically allocate you an upgraded stateroom if your upgrade offer is&nbsp;accepted.
If you have already selected or have been allocated a stateroom number there is no&nbsp;guarantee this stateroom will be available once your upgrade offer is accepted. If this is the case you will be allocated an alternative stateroom in the original grade booked.

When will I know if my upgrade offer is accepted?

You are eligible for our stateroom upgrade programme if you meet all the requirements below:

<li>you have paid your balance in full&nbsp;</li>

If eligible, you will receive an invite to this upgrade offer approximately 80 days prior to your cruise departure.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Most voyages will be included in the upgrade programme, but Cunard reserves the right to exclude voyages for commercial reasons.
