Southampton, United Kingdom, 9th March 2022: Following the eagerly anticipated name reveal of Cunard’s newest ship, Queen Anne on 8th February, the luxury brand now introduces her first Captain, Inger Klein Thorhauge. Thorhauge will lead the team responsible for on board operations and take charge for the new Queen’s maiden season.
Thorhauge, Cunard’s first female Captain, celebrates 25 years of service this year with the company and will sail Queen Anne from Italy, where she is currently being built, to Southampton ahead of her inaugural sailing in early 2024.
Thorhauge, who became Captain of Queen Victoria in 2010, started her career in 1997 as Second Officer on board Cunard’s Vistafjord. Originally from the Faroe Islands, her career with the company has seen her travel the world many times over as captain of Queen Victoria and more recently Queen Elizabeth.
‘I am very proud to be Cunard’s first female captain, but to be named as the first captain of Queen Anne is the greatest honour. It means the absolute world to me to be a part of the next chapter of Cunard,’ Thorhauge comments. ‘I can’t wait to see the reaction Queen Anne will receive from our guests when they first step on board, then to set sail and showcase our beautiful new ship to the world, visiting wonderful, and exciting ports! I can only begin to imagine the reception she will receive. When I discuss Queen Anne with Cunard crew it is so clear how excited and proud they are too, to welcome a new ship to the fleet. The crew are fundamental in delivering that quintessential Cunard experience, and I know they will continue to deliver the exceptionally high standards of our White Star Service on Queen Anne that our guests expect from us.’
Sharing captain duties will be David Hudson who started his career with Cunard in 2006.
Itineraries for Queen Anne will be revealed in May 2022. Further news about Queen Anne’s senior leadership team will be revealed over the coming months.
Southampton, United Kingdom, 8 February 2022: Cunard - pioneers of luxury ocean travel - is delighted to announce the name of the new ship joining a world-renowned fleet, Queen Anne. Queen Anne will be Cunard’s 249th ship and will make up a remarkable quartet of Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth. This will mark the first time since 1999 that Cunard will have four ships at sea.
The name ‘Queen Anne’ celebrates Cunard’s rich heritage, royal history and refined status-joining a luxury contemporary fleet now honouring the names of each Queen Regnant over the last millennium.
The Cunard team explored multiple naming options and inspired by Queen Anne’s reign, engaged with British historian, author and television presenter, Kate Williams, to assist in the detailed research. Kate says, ‘It is so exciting that the fourth ship of the fleet will be named after Queen Anne. She has a fascinating tale to tell –one of queenship, unity of developing constitutional monarchy, a golden age of the arts. She was an inspiring woman, wildly popular with her people. She should be celebrated. This new ship in the Cunard fleet is the perfect way to do it!’
Queen Anne will feature reimagined Cunard signature spaces as well as the introduction of new guest experiences within dining, culture and entertainment, for an unparalleled cruise experience underpinned by outstanding White Star Service. Bridging tradition and contemporary luxury, Queen Anne celebrates the influential design styles of both past and present and introduces an updated Cunard livery. World-renowned designers have joined forces to create an extraordinary and thoughtful standard-setting design, inspiring a new way to travel on sea. The décor will reveal bold colour tones and showcase a striking aesthetic, while in keeping with the renowned timeless Cunard sophistication.
Carnival UK President, Sture Myrmell comments, ‘I am absolutely delighted to welcome Queen Anne, the fourth ship to Cunard’s fleet. This marks a very special moment in Cunard’s 182-year history and showcases Cunard’s exciting global plans for the future, allowing even more guests around the world to set sail with Cunard. With design inspired by the past and set for the future, Queen Anne is the perfect way for our guests to rediscover the joy of exploration and travel again. We look forward to sharing more details in the coming weeks and months.’
Queen Anne’s maiden season programme will go on sale in May, with the ship’s first sailings in early 2024. More in-depth details are to be shared shortly.
Southampton, England (April 13, 2021) - Cunard Captain, Christopher Wells, is retiring after a stellar 20 year career with Cunard, part of 30 years spent working across Carnival Corporation cruise lines. In recognition of his outstanding service, he has been awarded the rank of Commodore.
Commodore Wells has spent the last 13 years leading the team on board Cunard’s flagship, Queen Mary 2, having originally been a key part of the commissioning of the ship which launched in 2004.
Cunard president Simon Palethorpe said: “Commodore Wells has been a wonderful ambassador for Cunard, proudly upholding the finest traditions and highest standards of the world’s most famous shipping line. It is only fitting, and I am delighted, that he be awarded the rank of Commodore, the highest rank afforded to any seafarer.
“He’ll be sorely missed by colleagues and guests alike, evidenced by the vast numbers of cards that have been received wishing him all the very best and noting his much-loved sense of humour as well as the respect he commanded. We thank him for the enormous contribution he has made to Cunard, in a highlight packed career, and wish him an equally successful retirement.”
Bournemouth-born Commodore Wells began his career at sea on board tankers and bulk carriers in South East Asia before transitioning to cruise shipping in 1992, first with Cunard then Princess Cruises, P&O Cruises and P&O Cruises Australia before returning to Cunard.
During his three decades on cruise ships, Commodore Wells has had the pleasure of meeting Her Majesty the Queen at the naming event for Queen Mary 2 and once again as Master at the naming of Queen Elizabeth. Another highlight was in 2017 when Commodore Wells climbed the tallest sail of the Sydney Opera House to mark the 10-year anniversary of Queen Mary 2’s very first visit to the Australian city.
Commodore Wells combined his seafaring career with a 25-year commission in the Royal Naval Reserve (RNR) and remains an Honorary Captain in the RNR.

Southampton, 29 June, 2020 – Cruise line Cunard has made a series of food donations to charity over the past four weeks from two of its ships.
Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria, both currently moored in UK waters with no guests on board, have donated 25 pallets/ approximately 23 tons of their supplies to UK food rescue charity, UKHarvest. UKHarvest is a not-for-profit perishable food rescue operation that collects quality excess food from commercial outlets and delivers it, direct and free of charge, to charities. This then provides much needed assistance to vulnerable men, women and children across the UK.
The food donations from both ships have been made up of frozen and chilled fruit and vegetables in addition to other nutritious dry food including staple pantry food, cereal and even chocolate.
Cunard, Executive Chef, Nicholas Oldroyd said, “The Cunard team, both ship and shore, are so pleased to have been able to make a small difference with these donations, especially at this time when so many people globally are going through such a difficult time. We would like to thank our partners, including the Port of Southampton, in making this happen.”
UKHarvest, Founder and CEO, Yvonne Thomson, said, “This contribution of nutritious food has been incredible, especially during the Covid-19 lockdown period. We have been able to donate to Covid-19 Emergency Centres, deliver food parcels to vulnerable people and ensure that school children have been fed. This is the beginning of a relationship with Cunard and we can’t thank Cunard enough for their generosity.”
About UKHarvest

We focus on rural and coastal food poverty and work in West Sussex, East Sussex, Hampshire, Kent and along the south coast, including the most deprived areas such as Southampton, Angmering, Tangmere, Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Portsmouth and Worthing. Unlike other food redistribution models, UKHarvest do not charge any fees and use refrigerated vans to deliver direct from the suppliers to the charities.
We began our food rescue and redistribution service in March 2017. We are already providing food support to over 100,000 people each week and rescuing food from over 100 food donors. We deliver quality surplus produce to over 150 recipient charities and have rescued just over 4 million meals using surplus rescued food each year.
We also deliver education programmes to combat household food waste and prevent malnutrition and obesity.

The event, curated by the programming team at Cheltenham Literature festival, will headline award-winning authors Ian Rankin, Alexander McCall Smith and Prue Leith on the seven-night extravaganza.
They will be joined by, amongst others, Kate Mosse OBE, Joanne Harris, Simon Armitage, Pam Ayers and Alan Johnson.

Returning for its second year, the Literature Festival at Sea kicks off on the 1 of December 2020 with a seven day programme of literary events including talks and work-shops as Queen Mary 2 sails from Southampton to New York.
Throughout the week guests can listen to some of literature’s greatest writers in conversation and have the chance to meet them at intimate author signings.
Prue Leith said, “It’s been a dream to cross the pond on the Queen Mary 2. I love literary festivals because the audience are interesting readers, and one’s fellow speakers are, like me, delighted to take a break from solitary writing and join the chatting, eating, drinking real world — if a luxury liner par excellence can be called the real world.”
The festival will also review some of the finest reads of the past 12 months from both sides of the Atlantic.
Lee Powell, Vice President Brand and Product, Cunard said: “Our week-long literary festival is a celebration for book-lovers in a completely unique setting as they sail across the Atlantic on board the stunning ocean liner Queen Mary 2. London, 23 December 2019: Luxury cruise line Cunard has treated guests and spectators to an aerial light show featuring 60 illuminated drones soaring above Queen Elizabeth in Port Melbourne.
The city saw the drones fly up to 100 metres above the ship for an eight-minute performance to celebrate their 101 day stay in Australia and first Christmas down under.
Controlled by a team of five operators, the display combined Christmas and maritime themes including Santa Claus, Rudolph, a ship and anchor before spelling out ‘Cunard’.
Matt Gleaves, VP International, Cunard, said, “Today’s fantastic display highlights Australia’s growing importance to Cunard as the line’s third largest international source market. It is a distinction that has prompted Cunard to base one of the world’s most famous ships ‘Down Under’ for a record 101-days.”
After departing Melbourne tonight, Queen Elizabeth will head to Tasmania. She will then celebrate Christmas Day at sea, before sailing to Fiordland National Park in New Zealand.
Guests will enjoy a spectacular Christmas feast, with traditional British dishes such as turkey, chestnut stuffing and pudding mixed with ‘Aussie’ favourites’ seafood BBQ and pavlova.

Following several challenging apprenticeships, stints at some of Europe’s finest restaurants, and military service spent in the kitchens at the Elysée Palace at the time of Presidents Giscard d’Estaing and François Mitterrand, Michel took over running Le Gavroche from his father in 1991, and has since opened further restaurants across the capital, including Roux at Parliament Square, Roux at the Landau, Palm Court, The Wigmore, and Private Dining by Roux at The Langham, London.
A regular on our screens, Michel’s television shows have included, MasterChef: The Professionals, Great British Food Revival, Food and Drink, Michel Roux’s Service, Kitchen Impossible, First Class Chefs, Hidden Kitchen, and Tried and Tasted: The Ultimate Shopping List. Michel is also a regular presenter on the BBC’s Saturday Kitchen Live.
Michel is also the author of a number of cookbooks, including The French Kitchen, Cooking with the Master Chef, Le Gavroche Cookbook, The Marathon Chef, Matching Food and Wine, A Life In The Kitchen, and Les Abats. In his most recent cookbook, The French Revolution, he revisits classic dishes from his traditional French upbringing but takes a modern approach that adapts his favourite recipes to suit the modern home cook.
Always keen to support and develop the hospitality industry, Michel is Co-Chairman of The Roux Scholarship, along with his cousin Alain Roux. The Roux Scholarship is a renowned competition for chefs under 30 who are working in the UK that gives them the opportunity to win a three-month stage at any three-star Michelin restaurant in the world, all expenses paid. Michel is also involved in other educational bodies such as The Savoy Educational Trust: an independent, grant giving charitable trust, whose main aim is to advance and develop education, training and qualifications within the hospitality industry; The College in Bournemouth & Poole; and is the UK Judge of the Prix Culinaire Taittinger.
Michel is a keen sportsman and he ran his 21st marathon in 2016 to raise funds for VICTA, a charity supporting visually impaired children, for which Michel has been a long-term Patron. He is also an honorary member of the Harlequin rugby club.
About Steven Spurrier.
Steven Spurrier is one of the world’s leading authorities on wine. He is a celebrated critic, retailer, teacher and consultant – as well as the visionary behind the legendary Judgement of Paris.
Steven joined the wine trade in 1964 as a trainee with London’s oldest wine merchant Christopher and Co. During his time there he spent many months travelling to Europe - to Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Rhone Valley, Germany and Oporto – to meet with wine houses and producers. He later moved to France, first to Provence and then Paris in 1971 where he opened a shop of his own. Les Caves de la Madeleine achieved recognition as a highly regarded specialist wine shop and Steven went on to start L’Academie du Vin, France’s first private wine school in 1972. It was here where the now legendary “Judgement of Paris” took place – a blind tasting that ranked a Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon from California above some of the most prestigious wines of Burgundy and Bordeaux.
Nowadays, Steven is the director of The Christie’s Wine Course, which he founded with Christie's Education in 1982, wine consultant to Singapore Airlines, and consultant editor to Decanter, as well as having written a series of successful books of his own.
In addition, Steven and his wife Bella produce their own elegant English sparkling wines from their Bride Valley vineyard in Dorset.

London, 11 October 2019 – Cunard and Fincantieri today celebrated the start of construction on the 249th ship of the luxury cruise line, marking an exciting moment in the company’s 179-year history.
The yet unnamed ship, which is being built to meet the growing global demand in luxury cruising, is set to reimagine the luxury cruise experience with an array of unique and exciting on board amenities.
The first section of the ship is under construction at Fincantieri’s Castellammare di Stabia ship yard. The shipbuilding group previously delivered Cunard’s popular and world-renowned Queen Victoria in 2007 and Queen Elizabeth in 2010.
The steel cutting ceremony is a keystone-event in the life of Cunard’s new ship, marking the commencement of building works that will culminate in its delivery in Monfalcone, Gorizia, Italy, in 2022.
Of the occasion, Simon Palethorpe, President, Cunard said, “After years of planning and design, we are delighted to see building works commence on our newest ship. The 249th Cunarder will be our fourth luxury liner for the 21st century. The new ship is taking inspiration from the successes of our past, integrating the Cunard spirit with exciting new concepts and ideas that will provide a uniquely luxurious travel experience for our guests.”
Mr Gilberto Tobaldi, Castellammare Shipyard Director, Fincantieri added, “We are very proud to be embarking on this next chapter of Cunard’s history with the start of the build of their newest ship and we look forward to working with the Cunard and Carnival UK teams over the next months.”
Cunard used the auspicious occasion to announce the commissioning of a unique sculpture, masterly crafted from the first piece of metal cut for the new ship. Acclaimed sculptor Sam Shendi will complete the work, which will be displayed on board the ship for Cunard’s guests to enjoy. Shendi is an Egyptian-born, British sculptor and uses contemporary industrial material, steel, stainless steel, aluminium and fibreglass to create his figurative work.
Shendi said, “I’m really looking forward to working with the Cunard team and to be given the challenge of creating a sculpture from the first piece of steel cut for their new ship is such a unique opportunity. It would be exciting for any artist to be part of such a long history and know that their artwork will travel the world on the ship connecting guests from all corners of the globe.”
With construction underway, the new ship’s interior designers will work alongside Fincantieri to deliver a one of a kind on board experience. Led by globally acclaimed designer Adam D. Tihany, the award winning design team includes Simon Rawlings (David Collins Studio), Terry McGillicuddy (Richmond International) and Sybille de Margerie (Sybille de Margerie Paris). Each brings experience from various world-class international hotels and resorts with the aim of delivering a new standard of Cunard luxury.
Cunard’s new ship is set to enter service in 2022 with bookings commencing next year.

Cunard’s new advert ‘Dreams’ will appear in every UK cinema before every screening of the new Downton Abbey movie reaching an estimated 3.9 million adults
New cinema advert features British philosopher Alan Watts and celebrates Cunard’s iconic Transatlantic Crossing
London, September 13, 2019 – From today, luxury cruise line Cunard will make its first cinema appearance with their new advert ‘Dreams’ which will appear in every UK cinema before every screening of the new Downton Abbey movie.
The advert, which has been created by Cunard’s retained agency Alpha Century, draws from the emotions evoked from travelling on the world’s only ocean liner Queen Mary 2, on an iconic Transatlantic Crossing with Cunard.
Featuring Alan Watts a British philosopher, writer, and speaker the 40-second advert invites the audience to dream of love, banquets, wonderful journeys and music beyond all belief and then, once you have done all that, forget that you were dreaming.
“In a world where we often find it hard to switch off, a holiday on board a Cunard ship is the perfect place to escape the everyday. This advert captures what it feels like to experience the magic of a Cunard voyage on board our flagship Queen Mary 2 as she journeys across the Atlantic.” said David Milo Jones, Marketing Director, Cunard.
Downton Abbey was chosen as the platform to release the new advert by Cunard’s retained media buying agency Wavemaker, who wanted to provide Cunard with the perfect combination of reach, impact and context.
“We know that many of our target audience of discerning travellers are passionate Downton Abbey fans, so a return to the big screen was too good an opportunity for us to miss.” Jones added.
The Cunard campaign also includes branded content produced by Alpha Century that will run across Cunard’s social media channels and be distributed to Cunard’s international teams to use in their own sales and marketing channels.
Barney Girling, Executive Creative Director, Alpha Century said, "Until you’ve sailed on board Cunard you can't quite appreciate the atmosphere they have created, through over a century of careful fine tuning. Alan Watts’ distinctive speech about finding oneself within an infinite dream, perfectly captured the sheer magic and scale of what Cunard now offer their guests.”
Downton Abbey took the world by storm when it debuted on ITV in 2010, gaining popularity throughout its six-season run until finally calling it a day in 2015. The show followed the aristocratic Crawley family and their team of dedicated servants on the fictional Yorkshire Estate, Downton Abbey, from 1912 until 1925. Starring Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery and Hugh Bonneville the film is set in 1927, and features a royal visit to Downton Abbey by King George V and Queen Mary.

London, September 4, 2019 - Luxury cruise line Cunard and SilverBlue Entertainment will launch the musical Top Hat exclusively on board Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria this September.
Winner of three Laurence Olivier Awards including Best New Musical, Top Hat is a romantic comedy set in the 1930’s Hollywood Golden Age and is known for its dazzling costumes and set-design as well as iconic tap dancing. “As we enter our 180th year in 2020, we are excited about this partnership with Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Kenton Cool; undoubtedly two of the finest outdoor record achievers in living memory. Cunard is based at Carnival House in Southampton and has been owned by Carnival Corporation since 1998.
London, June 26, 2019 – Luxury cruise line Cunard has welcomed back one of their oldest living former crewmembers as he prepares to celebrate his 100th birthday in the same month that Cunard will celebrate 100-years of sailing from the City of Southampton.
November 2019 marks a century since the record-breaking superliner RMS. Mauretania inaugurated Cunard’s Southampton express transatlantic service; linking the Hampshire shipping hub with New York City.
Former Cunard bellboy, John ‘Jack’ Jenkins MBE, who recently gave a moving speech at the D-Day commemoration ceremony in Portsmouth attended by Her Majesty the Queen, HRH The Prince of Wales and US President Donald Trump, was recently welcomed on board Cunard’s iconic ocean liner Queen Mary 2 by Captain Aseem Hashmi MNM for a celebratory lunch. Whilst on board, the Captain invited Mr Jenkins to inspect the ship’s bellboys – to ensure they met the high standards of 1930s Cunard service.
Queen Mary 2’s crew easily passed the inspection, though Mr Jenkins was quick to point out that working on board Mauretania was quite different to how it is today.
“I remember one of my first trips, when we sailed to the West Indies. When we would arrive in port I would then have to walk around on deck with a gong, as we had no tannoy system back then, and bang the gong and say, ‘all visitors ashore, all visitors ashore’,” Mr Jenkins recalls.
Born at a time when ocean liners were the only way to travel, Mr Jenkins went on to join Cunard in 1933 as a bellboy and lift operator. RMS. Mauretania was the first Cunard ship he was appointed to – the very ship that established Cunard’s Southampton hub in the year of his birth.
After Mauretania was retired in 1934, Mr Jenkins served on board the Cunard ship Ascania until the outbreak of World War II. Joining the war effort, he fought at D-Day in 1945, before returning to the UK to take up a career in the merchant navy.
Captain Hashmi said, “It was such an honour to welcome back Mr Jenkins to the Cunard family. It felt like a very fitting way to start our centenary celebrations, here in Southampton, and of course to congratulate Mr Jenkins on such a special milestone birthday that he will celebrate later this year. The members of the ship’s company and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to stories of what life was like on board, and we look forward to the opportunity to do so again.”
Departing November 18, 2019, Queen Mary 2 will undertake an historic Transatlantic Crossing from Southampton to New York – in tribute of the century-long relationship between the City and Cunard.
Guests on this celebratory voyage will journey into the past thanks to a travelling maritime exhibition from Southampton’s Sea City Museum, as well as a series of enrichment lectures on board. Maritime Historian and author Chris Frame, will be joined by local history expert Penny Legg, each presenting a series of unique talks about the long and illustrious history of Cunard and Southampton.

Inspired by Cunard and the iconic Transatlantic Crossing, internationally acclaimed milliner Stephen Jones OBE creates a stunning millinery masterpiece
The hat to form part of a runway show during this summer’s Transatlantic Fashion Week on board the iconic luxury ocean liner Queen Mary 2
London, 30 May, 2019 – With hat season fast approaching, luxury cruise line Cunard and legendary milliner, Stephen Jones OBE have collaborated to create a stunning millinery masterpiece that has been unveiled on board Cunard’s magnificent flagship, Queen Mary 2 today.
Stephen, who has designed for royalty, including Princess Diana, Princess Eugenie and the Duchess of Sussex, has drawn his design inspiration for the hat from Cunard’s rich heritage and the emotive experience that sailing across the Atlantic on board the luxury ocean liner QM2, gives you.
“There is something truly unique about travelling across the Atlantic on board the QM2 for a Transatlantic Crossing. It is an experience that never leaves you and this emotional connection that guests have for this voyage, in addition to Cunard’s history, provided the perfect inspiration to create this headpiece.” said Stephen.
He added: “I wanted to design something that was strong and bold - yet elegant and regal, like a crown. The hat is a nod to the beauty of the sea but also the glamour of ocean travel that Cunard epitomises. The look and feel is modern and contemporary and could be for the British Social Season. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing the hat being worn at Gold Cup Day, Royal Ascot in a few weeks time.”
Stephen has incorporated a variety of materials into the headpiece, mirroring the designer's own preoccupation with creating designs that appeal to fashionable women who are confident in their wardrobe choices. He works for many clients, from some of the most legendary fashion houses including Dior to London society.
Stephen will headline Cunard’s annual Transatlantic Fashion Week which departs New York on the 28 July arriving in to Southampton seven days later on the 4 August, 2019. The hat will form part of Stephen’s glittering runway shows on board. In addition Stephen will be taking guests through his distinguished career via a series of talks and Q&As. Stephen will be joined during the fashion week by some other celebrated names in fashion including Stuart Weitzman, Hilary Alexander OBE and Lindy Woodhead.
Lee Powell, Vice President Brand & Product, Cunard said: “The Transatlantic Crossing is our most iconic and treasured way for guests to experience sailing with Cunard on the Queen Mary 2, and to see this brought to life through this stunning design, by one the most respected milliners of our generation, in such an innovative and interesting way, is wonderful.”
He added: Cunard has long been synonymous with style and similarly fashion has always been a real passion of our guests from across the world. We celebrate this every year with our unique Transatlantic Fashion Week and this July, with hats being the perfect expression of individual style, we can’t wait to welcome Stephen and his stunning collection on board, for what will be a truly incredible experience for our guests as they sail across the Atlantic.”

About Stephen Jones Millinery
Born in Cheshire, and schooled in Liverpool, Stephen Jones burst on to the London fashion scene during its explosion of street style in the late seventies. By day, he was a student at St Martins; after dark he was one of that era's uncompromising style-blazers at the legendary Blitz nightclub - always crowned with a striking hat of his own idiosyncratic design.
By 1980, Jones had opened his first millinery salon in the heart of London's Covent Garden. Those premises soon became a place of pilgrimage and patronage, as everyone from rock stars to royalty, from Boy George to Diana, Princess of Wales, identified Jones as the milliner who would help them make arresting headlines. Nearly 40 years later, Jones's era-defining edge continues to attract a celebrity clientele which includes, Rihanna, Tilda Swinton, and the Duchess of Sussex.
Now, as ever, at the forefront of fashion, his beguiling hats routinely grace the most celebrated magazine covers and enliven window displays of the world's most stylish stores. From runways to race-courses, from pop-promos to royal garden parties, millinery by Stephen
Jones adds the exclamation mark to every fashion statement.

Six graduates supported by the Foundation to showcase designs on board Queen Mary 2 during Transatlantic Fashion Week 2019.
London, May 14, 2019 – Ahead of this year’s Transatlantic Fashion Week on board the iconic ocean liner Queen Mary 2 this summer (28 July – 4 August, 2019), luxury cruise line Cunard is delighted to announce Graduate Fashion Foundation as its newest partner.
Six talented graduates, who showcased their designs at Graduate Fashion Week 2018, have been selected to join the Transatlantic Fashion Week Crossing which this year is headlined by milliner to the royals, Stephen Jones OBE.
Graduate Fashion Foundation is a leading international charitable organisation and an essential part of the fashion industry, providing a springboard for new talent. Over the past 28 years, more than 100,000 newly graduated and undergraduate students have been supported and guided by the charity which bridges the gap between graduation and employment. The Foundation has been responsible for launching the careers of some of the most successful designers of our time including Christopher Bailey MBE, who was the winner of the first ever Gold Award and now a Lifetime Patron of the charity; Stella McCartney, Giles Deacon, Matthew Williamson and Julien MacDonald OBE to name a few.

New programme includes more variety than ever before with 94 destinations covering 139,000 nautical miles and three maiden calls for the current fleet
March 4, 2019 - Luxury cruise brand Cunard has today unveiled its winter 2020 - 2021 programme with exciting new destinations and more variety than ever before that will see the famous fleet, including the world’s only ocean liner Queen Mary 2, visit incredible places across the globe.
From November 2020 to May 2021, Cunard’s three ships will travel 139,000 nautical miles, calling at 94 destinations in 38 different countries, including three maiden calls to Hualien, Miyakojima and New Plymouth.
From San Francisco to Sydney and Auckland to Cape Town this latest itinerary blends world-class cities with smaller, less well-known, destinations, offering the opportunity to truly understand and experience the culture of a destination. Trips range from short two-night breaks to a 108-night world voyage with each journey delivering a refined and immersive experience, for every guest.
Gary Anslow, Director of Sales (UK), Cunard said: “Our new winter programme is filled with an incredible variety of sailings and destinations including New Zealand, Japan and China. Culturally rich, scenically stunning, each itinerary balances days of discovery ashore with indulgence and exploration at sea. Sailing direct from Southampton or opting for a fly cruise we are committed to offering our guests choice.”
Cunard has undertaken more world voyages and sent more ships across the world than any other passenger line, making Cunard a true expert in world voyages. In fact, the concept of world cruising was invented by Cunard in 1922, when the elegant Laconia completed the first ever continuous circumnavigation of the globe by a passenger liner, taking in 22 ports in 130 days.
In 2021, Cunard’s iconic flagship, Queen Mary 2, will embark upon a classic voyage of global exploration, taking in such diverse regions as Southern Africa, the Indian Ocean, Australia, Southeast Asia and the Mediterranean. Queen Victoria sets sail on a western circumnavigation of the globe that is packed full of ‘must-do’ experiences, while Queen Elizabeth will carry out a programme of exotic voyages that offer richer, deeper and more regionally-focussed itineraries.
Queen Mary 2 will again undertake her classic East-West Voyage to Australia and Asia. The beginning of the voyage is routed via South Africa and the Indian Ocean to Australia. From there Queen Mary 2 will head north to Hong Kong and on to Singapore via Vietnam. She then travels through the Malacca Straits across the Indian Ocean to the Arabian Gulf. The final leg of the voyage is the return to Southampton from Dubai, which is routed via the Suez Canal and Mediterranean Sea. Shorter voyage options exist, ranging in length from one to three weeks and can be combined in many ways allowing guests to create the ideal travel experience from and to the iconic city of their choice.
The 2020 - 2021 winter programme for Queen Mary 2 will also feature various transatlantic options. In addition to the iconic seven-night Transatlantic Crossing from New York to Southampton, guests will also be able to enjoy the splendour of the Caribbean at Christmas, including calls to St Thomas, St Kitts, Barbados, St Lucia and St Maarten.
Queen Victoria’s winter deployment begins with her celebration of Christmas and New Year in December 2020, followed by a classic western circumnavigation via the Panama Canal. The world voyage can be taken as a round trip from either Hamburg (112 Nights) or Southampton (108 nights).
The circumnavigation will begin by crossing the Atlantic to Florida via Bermuda, followed by a Trans-Panama segment. Queen Victoria will then cross the Pacific via Hawaii and Samoa to New Zealand. From there she will take in Sydney, Australia’s Gold Coast and Great Barrier Reef before travelling to Hong Kong via Darwin and Vietnam. Following the visit to Asia, Queen Victoria will return to Southampton via Singapore, the Indian Ocean and South Africa.
In December 2020 and early 2021, Queen Elizabeth offers a series of round trip voyages from international ports that offer deeper, richer and more regionally focused itineraries. In between these home-ported deployments will be exotic grand voyages that capture the imagination and spirit of adventure in travel lovers across the world.
Queen Elizabeth will also feature three brand new destinations and four over night calls, including Auckland, Wellington, Hobart and Singapore. The more focussed series of destinations presents deeper, richer and more regionally focussed plans that will take in New Plymouth (New Zealand), Hualien (Taiwan) will also take port in Miyakojima (Japan), during its famous ‘Cherry Blossom’ season.
In addition, Queen Elizabeth will operate four roundtrip voyages from Melbourne and four from Sydney, covering the popular regions of South Australia, Tasmania and New Zealand. New in 2021 is a pair of “open-jaw” New Zealand voyages, travelling from Sydney to Auckland and from Auckland to Sydney. These can be taken individually as 12 or 13 night voyages, or combined into a longer 25 night Sydney round trip that offers the full experience of nine different New Zealand ports, two ports in Tasmania as well as a day in Melbourne.

February 12, 2019 – Luxury cruise line Cunard has announced that Queen Elizabeth will return to Australia for an unparalleled 118 days over the 2020-21 summer, headlining Cunard’s biggest ever Australian season.
The season will also feature visits from Cunard flagship Queen Mary 2 and sister ship Queen Victoria during their world voyages, with the royal trio spending a record 49 days in Australian ports between them.
Queen Elizabeth’s four-month season will begin in November 2020 and will include more than 60 itinerary options as she sails from her homeports of Melbourne and Sydney.
Voyages will range from two-night cruises between Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Adelaide to longer journeys around Australia and New Zealand.
New offerings include 12 and 13-night cruises between Sydney and Auckland calling at a range of stunning ports along the New Zealand coastline, as well as calls to Tasmania and Victoria. The cruises can also be combined to create a destination-rich 25-night journey featuring an impressive nine New Zealand ports.
Other highlights include a Royal Rendezvous with Queen Victoria in Sydney on March 1, 2021 – marking the first time the two ships have met in Australia – as well as a special overnight call in Auckland on December 31, 2020, enabling Cunard guests to be among the first in the world to celebrate the New Year.
Simon Palethorpe, President, Cunard said: “The decision to increase our Australian presence further reflects the continuing growth in popularity of Cunard cruises among Australian travellers.
“Our new 2020-21 season in Australia is not only our biggest, it will be the third consecutive summer deployment for Queen Elizabeth, which is winning a strong following among local cruisers who enjoy her stylish features and her voyage offerings.”
“Basing Queen Elizabeth in Australia for a record 118 days enables us to create a range of new itinerary options, such as our longer New Zealand journeys, which we think will appeal to both existing and new Cunard guests and boost the popularity of Queen Elizabeth even further.”
The new program will also feature overnight calls in Hobart, Wellington and Auckland as well as Queen Elizabeth’s maiden call to Lyttelton and Cunard’s inaugural call to New Plymouth in New Zealand.
At 90,900 tonnes, the 2081-guest Queen Elizabeth is the second largest ship ever to sail in Cunard’s fleet. Launched in 2010, she is also the youngest in the cruise line’s current trio of Queens.
At the end of last year Queen Elizabeth underwent a refurbishment including the introduction of a brand new holistic spa concept, Mareel Wellness & Beauty.
Full details of the 2021 World Voyage season and Queen Elizabeth’s 2020-21 Australian programme will be released on March 4, 2019 with holidays scheduled to go on sale on March 12, 2019.

This is an annual award presented by The Society of London Theatre (SOLT) in recognition of achievements in London theatre.
Established in 1976, the Olivier Awards celebrate the world-class status of London theatre. The ceremony which takes place this year at the Royal Albert Hall on 7th April shines a spotlight on the finest theatre talent, performances and productions.
Taking the relationship from shore to ship, Cunard will delve into its stage heritage to co-create with the Society of London Theatre “London Theatre at Sea”, its newest event voyage for the iconic Transatlantic Crossing on board the luxury ocean liner Queen Mary 2 in May 2020. The RADA graduates have also passed on stagecraft tips in acting workshops.

Cunard launches a brand new holistic spa concept:
Mareel Wellness and Beauty
Inspired by the ocean and seamlessly blending natural beauty and timeless luxury, Cunard announces the launch of its brand new holistic spa concept, Mareel. Co-created by Cunard and wellness trailblazer Canyon Ranch, Mareel Wellness & Beauty will launch exclusively on board the newly refurbished Queen Elizabeth this December, closely followed by Queen Victoria later in the month and on board Queen Mary 2 from November 2020.
The word ‘Mareel’ is from old Norse language meaning ‘phosphorescence of the ocean’. This description of glowing light from the sea perfectly reflects our new ocean inspired wellness and beauty experiences that will leave guests feeling radiant, from the inside out.
Mareel will offer a brand new luxury space decorated in hues of blue, green and pale coral, creating a sanctuary of calm where guests can soak up the transformational power of the oceans. Brand new facilities offered by Mareel on board Queen Elizabeth will include:
- A new couples suite for seaweed bathing rituals
- A meditation room with acoustic resonance loungers
- A reconfigured multifunctional fitness centre and studio space
- New sound therapy facilities in every treatment room
While Cunard sets the standard in maritime luxury, the spa and wellness treatments and expertise will be offered in partnership with Canyon Ranch, with a brand new and extended spa treatment menu featuring mineral-rich seawater and marine based experiences to transform and heal.
Luxury products used within the new Mareel spa have all been selected to offer the very best and meet socially responsible production techniques, with organic treatments featuring ingredients that are sustainably harvested, wild-picked, biodynamic and toxin-free.
The signature treatment of the Mareel spa is ‘Ocean Discovery’, offering the option to combine up to five treatments, or select individual 30 minute treatments if preferred. Using luxurious marine based products from VOYA which are sustainably harvested from Western Ireland, Ocean Discovery aims to leave guests feeling revitalised and illuminated from the glow of the ocean.
Extending the offering of Mareel beyond the spa space, enhanced wellness experiences will also be offered across the ship’s daily activity programme including stretch and meditation films on stateroom TVs every morning, wellness seminars, activities on deck such as dance and open air yoga.
The new Mareel Wellness & Beauty experience is just one offering following a refurbishment of Queen Elizabeth during a two week period in dry dock in Brest, France. Adam D Tihany to lead the creative team
Luxury cruise company, Cunard is proud to announce that world-renowned designer, Adam D Tihany has been appointed Creative Director of its upcoming new ship.
Tihany will oversee the entire interior design process of the much-anticipated, but still unnamed ship, which will join the Cunard fleet in 2022.
Widely regarded as one of the world’s most talented designers, Tihany has made his name creating beautiful spaces for luxurious and iconic hotels, restaurants and resorts across the globe, including The Beverly Hills Hotel, Belmond Hotel Cipriani and The Oberoi New Delhi.
“The name Cunard is obviously magical and I’m very excited to be involved in this project,” he says. “If you look at the history of Cunard, it has always been a forward-looking brand. It has a classic image but actually each ship has been innovative for its period. We want to continue this tradition and move the brand forward with the creation of an exciting and spectacularly beautiful new cruise liner.”
Work is now ongoing and Tihany promises plenty of surprises. “Guests can expect a much lighter, contemporary feel, but crucially it will still feel like a Cunard ship and Cunard’s loyal guests will feel very at home. The new ship will celebrate Cunard’s British heritage but with a whisper, not a shout. Everything a guest expects to see on a Cunard ship will be there, but in a different way to the other three.”
Tihany has led the way in restaurant design, creating signature restaurant interiors for such culinary stars as Thomas Keller and Heston Blumenthal. He and his expert team of designers are currently working on plans for the new ship’s dining areas and he confirms that Queens and Princess Grill restaurants will feature among the dining options.
Design work is well underway in preparation for construction at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy. The ship, Cunard’s first new-build for 12 years will be the 249th vessel to sail under the Cunard flag and when she joins Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth in the Cunard fleet, the luxury cruise brand will have four ships in service for the first time since 2000.
Simon Palethorpe, Senior Vice President, Cunard said: “We are immensely excited about Adam’s appointment. Cunard offers unrivalled luxury ocean experiences and to have such a renowned designer as the Creative Director for the new ship shows our commitment to providing our guests with a whole new experience. Adam is working with a great team and there are some stunning ideas and concepts in the making, but still with the unique Cunard luxury and distinctiveness that our guests know and love. We look forward to sharing more of our designs next year as they come to life.”
