Marcus Brigstocke is a multi-award-winning comedian, actor, writer, playwright, director and satirist. His TV credits include ‘Have I Got News For You’, ‘QI’, ‘Live At The Apollo’, and ‘Question Time’.
Marcus has been a hugely successful touring stand-up comedian for over 20 years playing to delighted sell-out houses and rave reviews all over the UK and beyond. His ‘Devil May Care’ stand up show in 2019 saw him deliver 70 minutes of blisteringly funny material as John Milton’s ‘Lucifer'.
His BBC Radio 4 credits include ’The Now Show’ ’The News Quiz’ ‘I’m sorry I haven’t a clue’ ‘Just a Minute’ and ’The Wilsons Save The World’. To be honest there are a great many more too - he’s on Radio 4 more often than the Shipping Forecast.
On stage he’s played Arthur - King of the Britons in Monty Python’s ‘Spamalot’ and PT Barnum in Cy Coleman’s ‘Barnum’ (he walked a 10-metre tightrope every night for 3 months), he appeared as Ali Hakum for the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in 'Oklahoma!’ and has recently written and directed an award-winning play ’The Red’.
Marcus has always kept back as much time as he can to create satirical material covering a wide range of subjects from everyday politics, religion, international affairs, social satire and climate change (including two research trips to the Arctic with Cape Farewell). His book ‘God Collar’ examined atheism and faith and was published by Transworld.
For Cheltenham Literature Festival he’s hosted many events, including a hilarious newspaper review, an ‘I’ve never read…’ challenge to get authors and journalists to do a book report on a work they’ve read for the first time and, in 2018, a lecture called ‘In defence of the Metropolitan Liberal Elite’.
