Clare Clark is the author of seven critically acclaimed novels. Her first, The Great Stink, was longlisted for the Orange (now Women’s) Prize and shortlisted for the CWA Debut Dagger. Her third novel, Savage Lands, was also longlisted for the Orange Prize. Trespass, inspired by the recent revelations that for decades undercover cops have infiltrated protest groups and conducted relationships with activists under their false identities, was published by Virago in August. Clare’s books have been translated into seven languages.
Clare reviews both fiction and non-fiction for the Guardian and is a contributor to numerous other publications, including the Times, Literary Review, Mail on Sunday, New York Times and Washington Post. She has been a member of the Cheltenham Festival Advisory Board since 2013 and chairs events for a number of literary festivals across the UK. She has been in conversation with, among others, Hilary Mantel, Jonathan Franzen, David Dimbleby, Maggie O’Farrell, Elif Shafak, Richard Dawkins, Henry Marsh, Hugh Bonneville, Ian Hislop, Jung Chang, Robert Webb, Alan Johnson, A M Homes, Celeste Ng, Sebastian Faulks, Ann Cleeves, Mick Herron, Kate Mosse and Min Jin Lee.
Clare was a Senior Scholar at Trinity College, Cambridge, and graduated with a Double First in History.
