British writer Bernardine Evaristo was the joint winner of the Booker Prize 2019 with her eighth book, Girl, Woman, Other, making her the first black woman to win the prize in its 51-year history. It was also a Barack Obama ‘Top 19 Book of 2019’ and a Sunday Times bestseller for 44 weeks, holding the top spot for paperback fiction for five weeks.
