Julian Bird

Chief Executive of the Society of London Theatre

Julian Bird became Chief Executive of the Society of London Theatre and UK Theatre in November 2010 and is the Executive Producer for The Olivier Awards and UK Theatre Awards. Prior to his time at SOLT, Julian was the Chief Operating Officer at the Tate.  

Recently, he produced the European premiere of “Sondheim on Sondheim” and the centenary concert honouring Alan J Lerner, both for the BBC. He hosts “The Green Room” for Bauer Radio’s channel “Magic at the Musicals”, as well as speaking around the world on theatre and culture.

Julian is the Chair of both the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford and the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill-on-Sea. He sits on the Government’s Expert Trade Advisory Group for the Creative Industries, as well as on the West End Partnership Board.
