11 June 2024 [Southampton, UK] Cunard has announced record-breaking bookings following the highly anticipated launch of its new ship Queen Anne.
The 3,000-guest vessel set sail on a historic maiden voyage on 3 May before returning to her homeport of Southampton on 24 May to begin her celebratory British Isles Festival voyage – which included a spectacular naming ceremony in Liverpool.
And the luxury cruise brand can now report it booked more guests in May than any equivalent period on record, with Queen Anne Europe itineraries proving to be particularly popular with guests.
Culture Liverpool estimates that more than 50,000 people attended Queen Anne’s naming ceremony, with thousands more lining the banks of the River Mersey to witness her arrival in the city. Cunard also generated over 21 million impressions across social media channels on the day of the event.
Cunard President Katie McAlister said: “We’re delighted to see such strong booking momentum in response to the successful launch of Queen Anne. This record-breaking booking period is testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team, and we’re excited to have the opportunity to welcome so many new guests on board Queen Anne and the rest of our iconic fleet in the future.”
3 June 2024 [Liverpool, UK] Cunard’s newest ship Queen Anne was centre stage as the luxury cruise line hosted a spectacular naming ceremony* in its spiritual home of Liverpool.
Tens of thousands of people gathered at Liverpool Waterfront to witness the historic celebrations, which featured performances from iconic Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts and more.
On-stage proceedings were hosted by Busted musician Matt Willis and TV presenter Emma Willis.
Liverpool was the birthplace of Cunard’s first Transatlantic Crossing, 184 years ago in May 1840, and was the company’s headquarters for 128 years. The love and affection the people of Liverpool still have for all things Cunard is clear – never more so than when a Cunard ship arrives on the Mersey.
Queen Anne made her maiden call to Cunard’s spiritual home at around 7am, ahead of an impressive naming ceremony that marked a new chapter in the luxury cruise line’s 184-year history.
The ceremony opened with a one-of-a-kind performance by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, which captivated the audience's senses through powerful yet delicate melodies.
The City of Liverpool was then named as Queen Anne’s Godparent in recognition of the long-lasting bond with its spiritual home.
Five Liverpool icons** were invited on stage to represent the city, including former Spice Girl and author Melanie C, broadcaster and community leader Ngunan Adamu, local restaurant entrepreneur Natalie Haywood, Liverpool music and cultural legend Jayne Casey, and British Olympian heptathlon athlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson.
These distinguished women, who embody the heart and future of Liverpool, just as Queen Anne does for Cunard, were chosen because of their significant contributions to culture at a local, national or international level.
The iconic smashing of the Champagne bottle against the ship signified this historic moment and wished the vessel and its crew good fortune on its future voyages.
To top the bill, operatic superstar Andrea Bocelli ended the event with an unforgettable performance of two of his iconic songs, ‘It’s Time to Say Goodbye’.
Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, said: “I would like to thank our Liverpool Icons, these amazing women, for representing the city and taking part in this historic ceremony and to all of the people of Liverpool for once again opening your hearts and welcoming Cunard and Queen Anne.”

22 February 2024 [Southampton, UK] In the sixth and final instalment of her Captain’s Log series, Captain Inger Thorhauge shares her experiences of Queen Anne’s latest milestone as our impressive new ship successfully completed sea trials.
In the weeks ahead, the Captain will turn her attention to final preparations ahead of our newest Our new ship has just completed a unique voyage.
For 16 days in February, Queen Anne was put through her paces during her critical first sea trials.
And, I am thrilled to report, she passed with flying colours!
The complexity of the entire shipbuilding project spanning several years, and the way in which plans and concepts have been brought to life thanks to the skills of our design teams and shipyard partners, culminated in our momentous passage from Venice to Palermo and back.
And what a trip it was.
For the months of her fit-out, Queen Anne has been alongside at our builder Fincantieri’s shipyard.
Hundreds of contractors, miles of cabling, welding, noise, heat, and harsh work lights greeted me every time I stepped on board.
All that changed the moment the order to ‘let go ropes’ was given and we edged away from the crowded quayside at Marghera.
Before long, with tugs stood down, Queen Anne was making way under her own power for the very first time. It was a very moving milestone in the project – but not one we could savour for too long!
Ahead of us was a vast programme of checking, testing, assessing, and calibrating all major systems.
Everything from the pods powering our propulsion system, to the mighty bow thrusters aiding our manoeuvrability, and the stabilisers giving us ‘wings in the water’ was tested to the extreme.
And all the complex electronic systems controlling all this hardware were also thoroughly tested to ensure they meet the required specification and performance.
The volume of work was enormous.
A primary aim was to see how the ship handles in various situations from full speed ahead to full speed astern, tight turns, fast turns, slow turns, and crash stops.
Believe me, these were stringent tests and Queen Anne’s performance under these extremes was really impressive.
We also took the ship into Dry Dock at Palermo to paint the hull as we continue efforts to ready our new Queen for delivery.
More tests and inspections were carried out all the way back to Marghera to complete the schedule. No sooner were we back alongside in the familiar surroundings of the yard than gangways were put in place and legions of engineers, yard workers and contractors were back on board.
We are now in the critical final phase of work towards completion and delivery of the ship in April and In the coming weeks Queen Anne’s crew will start to assemble.
This will be a very exciting part of the whole project. I know that when we start to see more crew in Cunard uniforms on board than yard workers in their protective gear, we’ll be getting ever closer to our momentous maiden departure for Southampton.
I cannot wait to take command on Queen Anne’s historic first sailing under the Cunard flag. I know that first voyage to our home port will be another very busy and exciting time for all of us on board.
Until then, it’ll be goodbye from me as I sign off the last of my Captain’s Logs from the shipyard.
In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy this update in the Queen Anne journey, and I look forward to seeing you in Southampton as we write the next chapter of the Cunard story.

7 February 2024 [Southampton, UK] Cunard has reported that during January 2024, it has booked more guests than any equivalent period in the last decade.
Across the period, the luxury cruise brand booked a record number of guests, up by 25% versus the previous high of the last 10 years, with demand up for both sailings in year and future years.
Cunard President Katie McAlister said: “As we prepare to navigate what is set to be a truly ground-breaking year for Cunard, it has been fantastic to have such a strong start to the year. The appeal of Cunard is strong for guests across the world and is particularly strong for sailings across Europe on our new ship Queen Anne.”
5 February 2024 [Southampton, UK] Cunard’s spiritual home* is to host the spectacular Naming Ceremony for its newest ship Queen Anne.
The event will take place on the world-famous Mersey waterfront at Liverpool on Monday 3 June during an introductory ‘lap of honour’ voyage around the British Isles.
And Cunard’s hosts for the momentous spectacle will be none other than Busted rocker Matt Willis and his celebrated TV presenter wife, Emma. The power couple of British pop culture recorded a special message revealing what guests can expect from the event.
Queen Anne’s Naming Ceremony
Queen Anne is expected to arrive on the Mersey soon after sunrise on what promises to be the most eagerly awaited port of call on the exclusive 14-night voyage.
Plans are being made for her arrival to include a special salute to the city where Cunard’s pioneering transatlantic service – and passenger shipping itself – was launched in 1840, and where the iconic Cunard Building forms the centrepiece of the Three Graces.
The 14-night British Isles Festival Voyage will depart Southampton on 24 May with maiden calls to Edinburgh (South Queensferry), Invergordon, Greenock, Belfast, and Liverpool where guests sailing on the voyage will have an exclusive opportunity to join the Naming celebrations before a spectacular, late evening departure bound for Cobh followed by her return to Southampton.
The formal Naming will be the highlight of a day of celebration for Queen Anne, currently nearing completion in Italy.
The event in Liverpool is expected to draw tens of thousands of spectators to vantage points alongside the river at Pier Head, between New Brighton and Seacombe on Wirral and on beaches at Formby and Crosby in Sefton. A live global broadcast will ensure the eyes of the world once again fall on a Cunard event in Liverpool.
Cunard ships have previously attracted more than a million spectators to the banks of the Mersey, first for the maiden call of the renowned QE2 in July 1990, and in 2015 for the Three Queens ‘royal rendezvous’ in front of the Cunard Building to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the most famous name in shipping.
The British Isles Festival Voyage
Guests on the voyage will have an exclusive chance to be part of a unique event in Cunard’s history that will include a host of surprise celebrations at Liverpool’s world-famous Pier Head, with the original iconic Cunard Building at its heart.
An impressive line-up of eminent entertainers will give unforgettable live performances surrounding the official naming as Queen Anne makes her maiden call into Cunard’s spiritual home.
The 14-night British Isles Festival voyage will depart Southampton on 24 May with maiden calls to Greenock, Belfast, Cork, and Liverpool and a programme of exciting on board experiences that showcase the best of Britain and Ireland's shores. The events in Liverpool will be a truly treasured memory for us on the historical waterfront of a city we have such an incredible bond with.
Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, said: “Cunard has an incredible bond with the city of Liverpool. It is where our founder Sir Samuel Cunard began his Transatlantic line in 1840, so what better place to officially name our new ship than somewhere that holds so many special memories. Queen Anne is the next in a fine line for our brand and she will be bursting with breath-taking moments around every corner, evolving our core values of luxury, sophistication, and glamour. Liverpool is known the world over as Cunard’s spiritual home and we are all so excited for the city to see Queen Anne up close on her maiden call.”
Councillor Liam Robinson, Leader of Liverpool City Council, said: “It’s a huge honour for Liverpool to be chosen as the location for the official naming of Queen Anne. The city and Cunard share a rich history, we are the original home of the world-famous cruise line and we staged the incredible spectacle of the Three Queens on the Mersey in 2015, which lives long in many people’s memories. This is yet another prestigious, international event taking place in our city, casting Liverpool into the limelight once again and showcasing our enviable maritime offer. The naming ceremony is set to be a majestic sight and I’m sure it will attract huge crowds to the waterfront who want to be part of this unique moment in ours and Cunard’s history.”
Further details of timings, activities, and spectator information for Queen Anne’s visit to Liverpool will be published in due course.
23 January 2024 [Southampton, UK] Cunard has teamed up with one of the world’s most iconic fashion and beauty magazines to create a holistic wellness programme exclusively for guests aboard Queen Anne.
The luxury cruise line is collaborating with Harper’s Bazaar UK – the longest established luxury fashion, beauty and lifestyle publication in the world – to design three luxurious spa packages for travellers sailing on board the new 3,000-guest Queen Anne, which is due to set sail on its maiden voyage on 3 May.
Each package within the Harper’s Bazaar Wellness at Sea proposition comprises an enriching three-day journey focused on either detoxing, energising, or relaxing – allowing guests to arrive at their destination feeling fully rejuvenated.
The three-day programmes, each with an additional US$629 charge, will feature a curated selection of spa treatments, a range of ELEMIS products, and unique and nutritionally balanced dining options from Queen Anne’s The Pavilion Wellness Café.
The Harper's Bazaar Detox Journey will revive and restore clean living habits and features a cryo-body detox and body sculpting treatment; the Harper's Bazaar Energise Journey empowers guests with a mix of mindful eating, massage, and movement, including a bamboo massage; and the Harper's Bazaar Relax Journey encompasses a collection of soothing treatments, such as a restorative salt stone massage, that will reset the nervous system.
As part of each package, guests will also receive a selection of ELEMIS products to complement the programmes.
The partnership represents the exciting next chapter of Cunard’s award-winning wellness and enrichment offering, with Queen Anne set to boast the widest selection of fitness, beauty, thermal and spa facilities so far seen on a Cunard ship.
Wellness on Queen Anne
Queen Anne’s reimagined Mareel Wellness & Beauty offering heralds a new era of wellbeing at sea. The concept aims to deliver enriching wellness experiences that leave guests feeling radiant, from the inside out, just as its namesake – a glowing luminescence – lights the sea from within.
One of Queen Anne’s stand-out wellness spaces is The Pavilion, an idyllic open-air oasis on the top deck, which features a specially designed glass dome roof that retracts in warmer climes. Inspired by beautiful glasshouses, it is the ideal spot for getting lost in a book or enjoying a dip in the pool by day and for meeting new friends in the evening.
The multi-purpose space, designed by David Collins Studio (of Harrods and Claridge’s fame), weaves together several wellness elements, and will encompass the top deck Wellness Studio – an ideal retreat for fitness fanatics, open from sunrise to sunset – as well as The Pavilion Wellness Café, an alternative dining experience that will boast a colourful mix of seasonal, mouth-watering, and nutritious dishes.
Acclaimed architect Martin Francis – who supported with engineering the iconic Louvre Pyramid in Paris – led a redesigning of the glass dome, which will now feature a refined arched steel frame to maximise height and light in the space as it stretches up and aft to create the new Wellness Studio. The spa’s tranquil sanctuary is also where guests will enjoy a variety of uniquely crafted experiences, whether it’s experiencing one of the first cryo-body treatments at sea or trying out the Himalayan salt sauna and cold room to renew the mind, body, and soul.
Queen Anne's Wellness Café
The Pavilion Wellness Café will cater for breakfast, lunch, and daytime diners, celebrating the vibrancy of plant-powered foods and sustainably sourced meat, dairy and fish options. Queen Anne will also boast the widest selection of low and no-alcohol drinks so far found on a Cunard ship, with The Pavilion Wellness Café set to offer an array of feelgood smoothies, shots, and cold-pressed juices.
Some of the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant-rich options include a tropical Nutriquench of watermelon, pineapple and grapefruit, and a Pick me up Elixir of fresh turmeric, ginger root, black peppercorns, fennel seeds, honey and freshly squeezed lemon. Low-alcohol cocktails such as a Kombucha Bellini and Chinotto Spritz will be on the menu, too.
Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, said: “Wellness is such an integral part of luxury ocean travel in the modern age and we’re so excited to be collaborating with Harper’s Bazaar UK to deliver an elevated wellbeing offering for Queen Anne. This partnership will enable us to showcase the ultimate in wellbeing escapes as we offer travellers truly luxurious treatments, specialist masterclasses and tailormade health guides as part of this holistic wellness programme. Wellness will be a fundamental part of the Queen Anne experience, where guests can immerse themselves in the very best of luxury travel while nurturing their mind, body, and spirit and we hope their personal revitalisation will be a memorable part of their voyage with us.”
Sharon Ridgeway-Davies, Luxury Portfolio Director, Hearst UK, said: “As the world’s longest-established fashion magazine, Harper’s Bazaar has been synonymous with luxury for over 150 years. We are proud to be partnering with Cunard to bring guests a carefully curated Harper’s Bazaar Wellness at Sea proposition aboard Queen Anne. Each elevated wellness programme has been carefully curated to boost their skin, body and mind, all adding up to the ultimate wellbeing escape.”
The Harper’s Bazaar Wellness at Sea packages are now available to book on My Cunard, and can also be booked whilst on board.

Cunard has given an exclusive preview of Queen Anne’s new Indian-themed restaurant, Aranya.
The immersive dining experience was held in The Verandah on board Queen Victoria in Southampton today (11 December), giving VIP guests a never-before-tasted sampling of the Aranya concept.
The three-course meal was delivered by Surjan Singh, fondly known across the culinary world as Chef Jolly, a highly acclaimed Indian chef who is working with the luxury cruise line to develop the Aranya menu.
His achievements span three decades and include senior positions at the Taj Palace in New Delhi, the Goa Marriott Resort, the JW Marriott Mumbai, the Renaissance Mumbai, and London Marriott West India Quay Hotel. He has also enjoyed highly popular stints on MasterChef India and MasterChef Junior, India.
Alongside Cunard’s Culinary Development team, led by Gareth Bowen, the acclaimed chef delivered a host of delectable dishes for the festive feast, starting with a selection of appetisers including smoked chilly pork belly with buttered pao and pickled red cabbage; roasted sweet potato Tikki with a cumin-beet puree; and a sweet pea, goat’s cheese and almond kofta.
A choice of mains comprised roasted wild turbot with tamarind chilli tomato; slow roasted beef short rib with caramelized red onion-cashew nut yogurt gravy; masala roasted cauliflower with wild mushrooms; and a pot sealed Biryani filled with Welsh lamb shoulder.
To finish, a trio of desserts were served – a jamun, passionfruit mascarpone with a hazelnut nougat; a Malai- Lychee kulfi; and a fresh cut fruit chaat masala.
Each dish showcased the expertise, attention to detail and uniqueness of the Aranya experience.
Aranya
As an all-new taste direction for Cunard, Aranya (meaning forest or wilderness in Sanskrit) has been designed to surprise and delight guests, taking diners on a journey through the rich spice flavours of India with menus curated by experts in their field.
It’s intended to transport guests on a multi-sensory tour of the Indian subcontinent, from the vibrancy of the flavours to the luxurious interiors, which include stunning floor-to-ceiling windows to ensure magnificent views while dining.
Wherever guests decide to take their taste buds is their choice, be it the sprawling bazaars of Delhi, the lush green pastures of Kerala, or perhaps the golden sands of Goa. Aranya’s strength is its playful interpretations of classic Indian cuisine, and every evening is a new adventure.
Aranya is one of four additional dining experiences that will be available on Queen Anne – alongside Aji Wa, Sir Samuels, and Tramonto – which will offer guests more choice than ever before. The evening-only dining venue will be available to guests as a supplement, complementing the inclusive fare options offered for lunch or dinner elsewhere on the ship.

Aranya is not just a restaurant, it is a multi-sensory culinary experience that is designed to immerse diners in the rich spice flavours of the Indian subcontinent. With less than six months to go until the launch of its new ship, Cunard has revealed it will raise a glass to Queen Anne in May by unveiling an exclusive new gin.
The Queen Anne Edition, which will celebrate the finest botanicals from across the British Isles, will feature as part of the new Cunard 4 Queens gin collection – completing the brand’s flavour profile and reflecting its global reach.
As these pictures illustrate, Cunard teamed up with the nation’s favourite bartender, TV star Merlin Griffiths, to showcase the perfect pour for the Queen Anne Edition.
An award-winning cocktail-making champion, Merlin was able to match the uniquely British botanicals – which blend woody milk thistle, heather, and zesty sea buckthorn together with the sweetness of Queen Anne rose petals and blackcurrant leaf – for a smooth and elegant finish.
The Queen Anne Edition joins the Queen Mary 2 Edition (a taste of the Americas infused with crisp apple, warm cinnamon, and juicy cherry notes), the Queen Victoria Edition (a taste of the Mediterranean with blood orange, fragrant lemon myrtle and olive leaf), and the Queen Elizabeth Edition (steeped with Oriental influences such as Lotus Root, Star Anise, and Kaffir Lime Leaf).
The artisanal London Dry gin, created exclusively for Cunard, uses a recipe based on an original Bombay family recipe dating from 17 July 1947 and re-establishes Cunard’s partnership with Summerhall Distillery.
Based in Edinburgh, the distillery was founded in 2013, and its co-founder Marcus Pickering has a personal tie to the luxury cruise line. His great-uncle, George Gibbons, sailed as Captain of Cunard White Star liners from 1909 to 1944.
The Queen Anne Edition will be served in all bars and restaurants on board Queen Anne, and will also feature in a new – yet to be revealed – cocktail for guests travelling in style on Cunard’s newest ship.
The British-themed gin will also be available to buy direct from the Summerhall Distillery website, as well as on board, from 3 May 2024, with 70 cl bottles for sale at £41.
Katie McAlister, President of Cunard said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be launching the Queen Anne Edition of our new Cunard 4 Queens gin collection, which neatly demonstrates our commitment to providing refined and contemporary experiences for our guests. It’s been really special to have Merlin Griffiths bring the product to life and showcase how guests can make Queen Anne inspired cocktails at home, but this new gin is more than just an exciting tipple, it is a celebration of the British Isles and its unique charm. At Cunard, we are very proud of our British heritage and always strive to reflect our legacy in new and elevated propositions for the modern traveller.”

A new capsule collection that draws inspiration from the rich legacy of cruise couture fashion that has evolved since the 1900s.
To celebrate the introduction of the new capsule collection, Cunard and Circle of Style are offering style aficionados an exclusive chance to partake in a bespoke styling service, allowing them to create their own one-of-a-kind pre-loved cruise wardrobe ahead of their voyage. Pre-loved fashion royalty, Bay Garnett, said: “Fashion boasts a vibrant tapestry, and I frequently draw inspiration from high-fashion moments spanning several decades to reimagine contemporary looks. Delving into Cunard’s photographic archive to find inspiration for the new Capsule Cruise Collection was an incredible journey. The process of curating ten stylish and contemporary ensembles, with each one being inspired by the iconic fashion moments of its respective decade, has been nothing less than extraordinary.”
The exclusive Cunard Capsule Cruise collection is inspired by Cunard’s extensive archive images - with ten looks from ten decades of cruising, each one inspired by the fashion trends of the time. From the prim and proper 1900s through to the bold colour of the 1970s and the contemporary cool of the 1990s, each piece within the collection celebrates the style of its decade, with a modern twist perfect for present day style enthusiasts.
Throughout the decades, fashion has always played an important part in Cunard’s heritage, from being the first cruise company to hold a transatlantic fashion week cruise to hosting celebrities including Elizabeth Taylor, Marlene Dietrich and Rita Hayworth. Glamour and fashion has always been linked to cruising and the capsule collection aims to help future guests capture this spirit, whatever their style.

As the world’s most iconic luxury cruise line nears the six-month countdown to the launch of its new ship, Cunard has given an exclusive preview of Queen Anne’s elevated wellness offering.
The 113,000-ton, 3,000-guest ship is currently under construction at the Fincantieri Marghera shipyard in Venice, Italy and today (5 October) Cunard invited a group of global travel agent partners for its first behind-the-scenes tour.
Queen Anne will boast the widest selection of fitness, beauty, thermal and spa facilities so far seen on a Cunard ship, with its reimagined Mareel Wellness & Beauty proposition heralding a new era of wellbeing at sea.
Cunard’s Mareel concept aims to deliver enriching wellness experiences that leave guests feeling radiant, from the inside out, just as its namesake – a glowing luminescence – lights the sea from within. Queen Anne’s Wellness Club will also boast a tailormade programme for solo travellers, where, on embarkation night, like-minded guests will be able to relax and unwind together at a meet-and-greet.
As these pictures show, the vision of a tranquil sanctuary is coming to life, and it is here where guests will enjoy a variety of uniquely crafted experiences – from cryotherapy treatments to a Himalayan salt sauna and cold room – that will renew the mind, body, and soul.
The multi-purpose space, designed by David Collins Studio (of Harrods and Claridge’s fame), weaves together several wellness elements, and will encompass the top deck Wellness Studio – an ideal retreat for fitness fanatics, open from sunrise to sunset – as well as the Wellness Café, an alternative dining experience that will boast a colourful mix of seasonal, mouth-watering, and nutritious dishes.
The Wellness Café will cater for breakfast, lunch, and daytime diners, celebrating the vibrancy of plant-powered foods and sustainably sourced meat, dairy and fish options.
Acclaimed architect Martin Francis – who supported with engineering the iconic Louvre Pyramid in Paris – led a redesigning of the glass dome, which will now feature a refined arched steel frame to maximise height and light in the space as it stretches up and aft to create the new Wellness Studio.
At the shipyard
The tour was hosted by Captain Inger Thorhauge, the luxury cruise line’s first female Captain, who will be at the helm for Queen Anne’s maiden voyage from Southampton to Lisbon on 3 May 2024.
The event in Venice follows Queen Anne’s float out ceremony in May, a tradition where a ‘Madrina’ is named to offer blessings and best wishes for the ship, celebrating the first flow of water into the ship's dry dock.
The ship has since been moved from a construction dock to a fitting out basin nearby, and as these photos illustrate, the fitting out phase is in full swing.
Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, said: “For more than 180 years, Cunard has constantly refined the definitive experience of luxury ocean travel and I am incredibly excited that we are now just six months away from beginning the next chapter of our remarkable story. It is both incredible and inspiring to see the progress that has been made by the craftsman, engineers, and workforce here at Fincantieri shipyard and as we start to see Queen Anne’s interiors take shape, we can all see what a truly magnificent Queen she will become. I know that guests around the world are looking forward to sailing with our new Queen and we are counting down the days until we can welcome them aboard.”

Cunard has teamed up with the BFI for an exclusive new partnership that will make waves with film lovers ahead of the launch of Queen Anne.
The luxury cruise line has announced a three-year partnership with the UK’s lead organisation for film, TV, and the moving image. The collaboration will see a curated programme of specially selected films shown exclusively on the outdoor screen in The Pavilion on board Queen Anne.
The Pavilion is an idyllic open-air oasis on the top deck of Cunard’s newest ship, and the BFI will be showing 10 films every month on the cinematic LED screen in this romantic outdoor space.
These specially selected films will also be shown in guests’ staterooms.
As a multi-purpose space, The Pavilion boasts a specially designed glass dome roof that retracts in warmer climes. Inspired by beautiful glasshouses, it is the ideal spot for getting lost in a book or enjoying a dip in the pool by day and for meeting new friends over a glass of wine in the evening.
The space has been designed by David Collins Studio, with its sophisticated aesthetic likened to a ship sailing through serene waters as guests breeze from one moment to the next. The gentle arc of the glass dome encompasses all the experiences within the space, and opens to let the outside in.
Acclaimed architect Martin Francis – who supported with engineering the iconic Louvre Pyramid in Paris – led a redesigning of the glass dome, which will now feature a refined arched steel frame to maximise height and light in the space as it stretches up and aft to create the new Wellness Studio.
Queen Anne’s wider design concepts have been founded on heritage, craftmanship, style, storytelling, and innovation, and the 113,000-ton, 3,000-guest ship, which spans 14 decks, will offer guests several breath-taking experiences, and more choices of entertainment, dining, and bars than ever before.
BFI partnership
In addition to the collaboration with The Pavilion on Queen Anne, Cunard will be a main sponsor of the 67th BFI London Film Festival, in partnership with American Express, which runs at venues across London, as well as in 9 UK-wide partner cinemas, from 4 – 15 October, as well as in 2024 and 2025.
On 11 October, the Cunard Gala will support the European premiere of The Holdovers at the BFI London Film Festival – in association with Universal Pictures and Focus Features – at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall. The Holdovers is a new American comedy-drama from acclaimed director Alexander Payne.
Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with the British Film Institute, with our shared dedication to providing immersive experiences aligning perfectly. We’re hugely proud of our long-standing affiliation with the silver screen, with some of Hollywood’s biggest names having sailed in style with Cunard – from Charlie Chaplin to Meryl Streep. As the first cruise line to host an on board film premiere with the launch of The Greatest Showman on Queen Mary 2 in 2017, we are incredibly passionate about the power of timeless storytelling. We have dedicated spaces for film enthusiasts across the fleet, and our new ship Queen Anne will boast even more big screen experiences for guests. Together with the BFI, we’ll strive to create unparalleled and unforgettable moments for film lovers.”
Francesca Vinti, BFI Executive Director of Fundraising and Enterprise, added: “We are thrilled to be working alongside Cunard on this partnership and are incredibly thankful for their support of the BFI and the BFI London Film Festival. We are excited to be able to reach audiences in new inventive ways with amazing films and look forward to collaborating with Cunard over the next three years.”

The world's most iconic luxury cruise brand celebrated a momentous construction milestone today with the float out of Queen Anne at the Fincantieri Marghera shipyard in Venice, Italy.
The 249th ship to sail under the Cunard flag, Queen Anne officially touched water for the first time exactly 365 days before she will set sail on her maiden voyage to Lisbon on 3 May 2024.
Steeped in tradition, the float out is marked by a special ceremony where a 'Madrina' is named to offer blessings and best wishes for the ship, celebrating the flow of water into the ship's dry dock.
Carnival UK President, Sture Myrmell, said: “We are delighted to celebrate this important milestone in the construction of Queen Anne. The float out ceremony marks the ship’s transition from her building dock to where she truly belongs – in the water. Today marks a significant moment for Queen Anne as we recognise the dedication by the master ship builders at Fincantieri to build a ship that reinforces our position as a world-famous luxury brand.”
Luigi Matarazzo, General Manager Merchant Ships Division of Fincantieri, stated: “Queen Anne is the third ship we have the pleasure to build for Cunard, a pillar in the history of British seafaring, with whom we share a real commitment to excellence. Building a liner for this shipowner takes us back to our roots yet, at the same time, spurs us forward to the future in a spirit of determination to bring together tradition and innovation and further strengthen our longstanding relationship”.
The float out, completes the first comprehensive phase of construction for Queen Anne, which now transitions to focus on building the luxury ship's interiors.
Queen Anne

These stunning pictures capture the moment Queen Anne received her crowning glory as Cunard’s iconic red and black funnel was secured onto the luxury cruise line’s newest ship.
This significant construction milestone, known as the ‘funnel lift’, took place at the Fincantieri shipyard on Friday (14 April 2023) and takes the remarkable ship one step closer to her maiden voyage in May 2024.
Cunard’s distinctive red and black funnels have adorned its ships for more than 150 years, becoming synonymous with the company’s rich seafaring heritage and reputation for luxury ocean travel.
Their design is the brainchild of Robert Napier, the shipyard owner who built some of Cunard’s earliest ships. The striking colour scheme endures to this day, making Cunard ships instantly identifiable in ports across the world.
The design concepts for Cunard’s newest ship have been founded on heritage, craftmanship, style, storytelling, and innovation, and the 113,000-ton, 3,000-guest Queen Anne, which spans 14 decks, will offer travellers several breath-taking moments, including the largest curated art collection at sea.
The ship will also offer a range of signature Cunard experiences for guests, including five-star dining options with White Star Service, luxurious spa facilities, and new entertainment venues.
What’s more, Queen Anne will take guests to some of the world’s most enticing locations during her maiden season, from the cultural gems of the Mediterranean to the mystical landscapes of the Norwegian fjords.
Angus Struthers, Senior Vice President Cunard, said:
“We are thrilled to mark this important milestone in the construction of Queen Anne. The installation of the funnel is a significant step in the building process and brings the ship one step closer to joining our fleet. For Cunard, the distinctive red and black funnel is an iconic symbol of our heritage and will be one of Queen Anne’s most recognisable features.”
[5 April 2023 - Southampton, UK]
Name a more iconic duo than chocolate and sea salt? The brackishness of the salt muddled with the richness of the chocolate, creates a 'tour de force' of flavour. And this Easter, luxury cruise liner, Cunard, is on a mission to reveal the science behind this celebrated combination, and why Easter, the holiday famed for its connection to chocolate, tastes better at sea. Working with Prof. Charles Spence, the leading gastrophysicist from the University of Oxford, Cunard has identified why taking a cruise over Easter can create an unforgettale experience, for both you and your tastebuds.
According to Charles, food and drink taste better when having a good time, which is highly likely when travelling on one of Cunard’s renowned luxury ships. This is known as the ‘Provencal rose paradox’ which Prof Spence claims everyone, especially Northern Europeans, has experienced a version of in their lifetime.[1]
Prof. Spence, leading gastrophysicist from the University of Oxford says:
“It relates to the fact that food and drink seem to taste so much better when we are on holiday, whether this is with our family in the Mediterranean, or travelling solo with the sun on our backs. So nice in fact, that we are even tempted to buy a few bottles of that same holiday wine, to bring back home and share on a cold winter’s evening. Only it never tastes the same; it is disappointing somehow.[2] The reason is that when we are on holiday, we are likely to be relaxed and in a better mood, and food simply tastes better when we are in a better mood. Given that people don’t often cruise for work, they are likely to be happy and relaxed on their cruise hence making food and drink taste better.”
But what about the salty sea air to accompany your chocolate eggs? Salt is a well-known flavour enhancer, helping, for example, to mask bitterness in tonic water or grapefruit, whilst at the same time enhancing the taste of many other foods.[3] Since salt suppresses bitterness and accentuates sweetness, it is the ideal accompaniment to chocolate, likely to work better with a more bitter dark chocolate, than milk or white chocolate.
The flavour-enhancing properties of salt might not be the only cause for chocolate tasting better at sea, as according to Prof Spence, even seeing, smelling, and hearing the sea may also conceptually prime notions of saltiness too, thus enhancing the sensation even further.
Prof. Spence goes on to say:
“Looking out on the sea while simultaneously smelling and hearing the ocean, is all likely to prime saltiness, leading to a more cognitive form of taste enhancement. In an experiment I conducted with a leading chef a few years ago, we were able to show that hearing the sounds of the sea made seafood taste better, so why not chocolate as well?[4]”
In this case, the combination of the salty sea air perfectly complements and enhances the flavours of quality chocolate, offering a distinct contrast between the salty, sweet, and bitter notes of the chocolate. Whilst at the same time, research shows that being close to and viewing the blues of water[5] has a beneficial effect on our social, cognitive, and emotional well-being.[6] The mood and well-being enhancing effect of being by water combined with the iconic taste duo of sea salt and chocolate, then likely suggests that it will in fact taste better whilst on a Cunard cruise.
Lee Powell, Vice President, Brand and Product at Cunard says:
Special occasions deserve special ingredients, and when it comes to Easter, the onboard teams on each of our three Queens go above and beyond to create a suitably indulgent celebration. Our skilled chefs will be creating incredibly elegant chocolate figurines and desserts, our bars will be serving chocolate cocktails and guests will enjoy chocolate treats across the weekend, including a total of almost 6,500 chocolate bunnies!
[24 March 2023 - Southampton, UK]
On 23 March 2023, Cunard welcomed travel agents to the unveiling of an exciting new archive exhibition at the University of Liverpool's Victoria Gallery & Museum.
Titled Travel in Style – Iconic Cunard Advertising in the 1920s and 1930s, the specially curated display provides a unique glimpse of the luxury travel brand’s illustrious seafaring heritage.
The exhibition, which opens to the public tomorrow (25 March), is on display in Gallery 5 within the VG&M and features original marketing materials and other enduring documents from the past 100 years.
It chronicles the luxury travel brand’s rich history in design and style – with some of the timeless pieces inspiring design choices for the Princess Grill restaurant and Queens Grill Suites onboard Queen Anne, Cunard’s latest ship.
The wider Cunard archives are housed at the University of Liverpool library and contain most of the surviving business records produced by Cunard since it became a limited company in 1878. A unique resource for researching Cunard's growth and development, many of the records date from the early part of the 1900s and occupy over 400 linear metres.
For more than 180 years, Cunard has constantly refined the definitive experience of ocean travel and Thursday’s exclusive exhibition preview gave agents an opportunity to immerse themselves in a legacy that Cunard is extremely proud of.
It’s a legacy the luxury travel brand is intent on preserving when Queen Anne enters its fleet in May 2024, with Cunard’s newest Queen expected to boast several contemporary spaces onboard that evoke memories of its star-studded history.
Designers from David Collins Studio were in attendance to reveal the design inspiration behind Queen Anne. Having been immersed in the Cunard archives, the design team, whose portfolios include luxury hotels, bars, restaurants, high end yachts, and private grand residences, have ensured that Queen Anne exudes classic Cunard style while showcasing many new considered touches.
Queen Anne’s breath-taking interiors take inspiration from Cunard’s past, celebrating the beautiful art deco style finishes that the brand is known for, to define a striking new design direction for the future.
Lee Powell, Vice President of Brand and Product at Cunard, said: “Cunard is world-renowned for inventing the golden era of ocean travel and this exhibition beautifully showcases the timelessness of our brand. Luxury, sophistication, and glamour are rooted in our DNA and these core values are as important to today’s guests as they were to travellers 100 years ago. Whilst we cherish our heritage, we also use it as inspiration for forward-looking ideas when we plan for the future. Queen Anne is the next in a fine line for Cunard and she will be bursting with breath-taking moments around every corner; all of which contain subtle references to our history.”
Jason Stewart, Associate Director of David Collins Studio, added: “With such history and heritage to draw upon, the Cunard brand is rich with inspiration for us as designers. It was a unique opportunity to create spaces with design narratives that can only belong to Cunard – the spaces on board really wouldn’t work anywhere else! We began by delving into the incredible Cunard archives at the University of Liverpool and found many inspiring references that informed our designs. A great example is when we discovered the first trans-Atlantic crossing from Great Britain to Nova Scotia. The flora and fauna of Nova Scotia has informed the beautiful flowers that will feature across the walls in the Princess Grill Suite.
“The brief for the project was to create a ship for the future. I think we have achieved this with a design that is timeless and sophisticated, that won’t date and yet is adaptable for the future. Our designs feature carefully curated architectural details that reference Cunard’s heritage and the Golden Age of Liner Travel.”
James Addison, Creative Director at forpeople, added: “We feel incredibly privileged to help shape the next chapter of Cunard’s iconic livery design. Alongside the Cunard team, we see ourselves as custodians of the brand – and it’s a responsibility we take very seriously. This is why we searched through the Cunard archives to ensure every detail was grounded in Cunard’s heritage yet refined and reinvented to feel timeless for future generations.”
Siân Wilks, Archivist (Cunard) at the University of Liverpool Library, said: “The Cunard archive contains most of the surviving business records produced by Cunard since it became a limited company in 1878. As a unique resource, the archive provides rich insight into the Company's history and the social history of thousands of people whose lives Cunard impacted, including members of its crew, office staff and passengers.
“The exhibition will give visitors to Liverpool the opportunity to view a selection of original Cunard travel posters that are not normally accessible due to their large size and preservation requirements. Printed advertisements and ephemera will also be on display, which will include examples of memorabilia that have been donated by members of the public, reflecting their personal experiences of travelling with Cunard.”
Queen Anne will set sail in May 2024. For more information about Cunard, or to book a voyage, visit our website.
8 March 2023 [Southampton, UK]
As the countdown to one of the most eagerly anticipated ships of the century edges closer, we'll be giving sneak peeks of Queen Anne’s progress… from the person who knows her best.
Join Captain Inger, our first female captain, as she prepares to take the helm of our 249th ship next May. In this new Captain’s Log series, she’ll shine a light on building milestones, signature installations and everything in between
You can expect regular Queen Anne moments and updates from Fincantieri over the next year, and in this kick-off edition Captain Inger reveals how the project has entered a very important phase…
I’ll soon have a chance to board my (very) new ship Queen Anne, the latest in our fine line and the 249th ship to sail in Cunard colours. This newest Cunarder is being built at the Fincantieri shipyards in Italy, and I’ll be looking forward to spending lots of time at the Marghera site near Venice over the coming months.
It’s a rather special place to build cruise ships! Arriving at the yard by water taxi from the Grand Canal is an experience in itself.
From there, I’ll be writing my Captain’s Log, giving readers a unique insight as Queen Anne is brought to life.
The sprawling yard at Marghera is a place already steeped in Cunard history.
It was here that my former command Queen Victoria was built and delivered to Cunard in 2007. Fincantieri also built my last ship, Queen Elizabeth (at the Monfalcone shipyard).
From a technical point of view, these sisters in the fleet are very similar. Each has evolved from the same “Vista” class of design pioneered by Fincantieri and our own shipbuilding team of experts. I remember vividly my first voyages on both ships. I was impressed by both the quality of their build as well as their seaworthiness and the very sophisticated kit at my disposal on the bridge.
Queen Anne is a “Pinnacle” class ship with a different hull design to her sisters, although again one from the Fincantieri drawing boards (or computer screens!), with a huge input from the new-build team at our parent company Carnival Corporation & plc.
Modern shipbuilding is an immensely complex process requiring extraordinary expertise in both planning and production. A giant jigsaw doesn’t come close!
Each time I visit a shipyard and see a new vessel being built, I am amazed by the display of skill and technical prowess in so many essential disciplines.
The Queen Anne project has now entered a very important and dramatic phase. Her hull is complete, and all the major plant and machinery is in place, deep inside the cavernous steel compartments assigned to house all the things required to operate a 113,000-tonne ship, designed to take guests on the voyages of their dreams.
The team are in the process of installing her upper accommodation decks and fitting out the bridge – seeing my new office for the first time will be another memorable milestone to share with you.
I’ve spent a good deal of time poring over deck plans and looking at computer-generated visualisations of the public rooms on board my new ship. She already looks magnificent as you can see in these videos.
Walking into the Bright Lights Society lounge, and the Golden Lion pub is already a great experience.
These are bare steel, covered in scaffolding and with a maze of cabling above my hard hat and below my safety boots, but, already, I can imagine how they will look during the coming months as our renowned designers bring their striking and beautiful concepts to life on board Queen Anne.
The first time I saw my new ship was a for a big milestone in her life in September. It was also a milestone for me as I was asked to don welding gear and secure a set of specially minted coins deep inside the ship’s keel. Cunard commissioned a special Queen Anne coin for the occasion, and this was paired in a sealed container with an original coin from the reign of Queen Anne herself.
These will remain in their very special place, far, far beneath the bridge, for a very, very long time as Queen Anne crosses the world’s oceans. When the day dawns for Queen Anne to leave Venice and start her first voyage to Southampton, I have no doubt I will remind myself about those coins.
In the meantime, we’ll be creating all the other very special features which will make Queen Anne such a spectacular addition to the fleet. I’ll keep you posted along the way – and look forward to welcoming you on board my new ship in a little over a year.
Believe me, it will be worth the wait!

Luxury cruise line Cunard, celebrates a century’s worth of luxury, magic, history and memories by launching its new Sea Views Exhibition, carefully curated by British photographer and filmmaker Mary McCartney.
The exhibition celebrates two momentous milestones in Cunard’s history- the first being that over 100 years ago, Cunard introduced onboard photography to capture the signature moments of their voyages and the second being the centenary of the first ever round the world voyage on Cunard’s ship, Laconia. Laconia’s 130-day voyage departed on 21 November 1922 and arrived back in New York on 30 March 1923 after calling at 22 ports.
Boasting images from Cunard’s photography archive together with an incredible number of photos submitted by past and present guests of its iconic cruise liners, the Sea Views Exhibition is a culmination of the century’s rich history.
Showcasing a selection of never-before-seen imagery featuring everything from Hollywood’s most famed to the treasured moments of guests, the snapshots cover the dynamic changes in styles across fashion, food and interior design since the 1920s.
The exhibition features a snapshot of Cunard’s most glamorous and esteemed guests, from Elizabeth Taylor and Rita Hayworth to Bing Crosby and Nelson Mandela, illustrating some of Cunard’s archival gems across the century.
Hundreds of Cunard passengers from all over the world, including America, Australia, Canada, Germany and the UK, submitted over a thousand of their personal highlights aboard Cunard’s ships. The images depict a series of fascinating moments from families emigrating to new continents, milestone anniversaries to unexpected guest encounters, telling magical stories from the 1920s to present day.
Peter Fittock, from Thurso Scotland, shared a selection of wonderful images captured by his grandfather, Jasper Harold Fittock, who was a "Pantryman/Steward” onboard the Aquitania and later the Carmania. The photograph featured in the exhibition shows cowboy movie star Tom Mix riding his horse Tony down the gangway, on a trip to England.
Barry Robins, shared a picture of himself and his sister Lynne Robins, aboard the Queen Mary, June of 1964. They were emigrating to the USA along with their mother to be reunited with their father. As siblings they had a wonderful time onboard, prior to arriving in New York and shared a range of fond memories.
Mary McCartney says: "Curating the Sea Views Exhibition for Cunard has been a fulfilling project for me as a photographer and filmmaker. It was a joy to dig deep into the archives and discover never-before-seen photographs that capture the essence of Cunard's signature moments, showcasing the glamour, elegance, and adventures families and friends shared together”.
“It was not just about showcasing the history, but also celebrating the millions of travellers who have embarked on unforgettable voyages across the globe. As I went through the archives and read the stories submitted by passengers from all corners of the world, I was struck by the strong sense of community and connection that Cunard has fostered over the years. It was an honour to bring those stories to life through the exhibition." Continues Mary.
Other images Mary McCartney selected to be included in the unique photography exhibition include:
- Troops walking on board in Sydney, Cunard's Queen Mary (1940). The Queen Mary was deployed during the Second World War to carry troops to Europe
- Nelson Mandela sailed on the Queen Elizabeth 2’s 1998 passage between Durban and Cape Town. In the ship's visitor book, he wrote “Travelling on QE2 was an unforgettable honour and a pleasure”

The Sea Views exhibition will mark two key centenaries – the first being that 100 years ago, Cunard was the first cruise line to introduce an on board photographer to capture the signature moments of their guests' voyage. The second is the 100-year anniversary of the first ever round the world cruise on Cunard’s ship Laconia.

We are extremely excited to work alongside Mary McCartney to launch the Sea Views exhibition.’
In addition to the archived photos that will be exhibited, Cunard is calling on the guests to share any photographs they may have collected over the years when travelling on board a Cunard ship, capturing special moments, amazing views and unique experiences. All images shared will be reviewed, with selected images to be part of this rare, centennial exhibition.

To find out how you can submit your favourite moment captured on board a Cunard ship, visit www.cunard.com/seaviews and submit your images by 5th February 2023. The centennial ‘Sea Views’ exhibition will go live in 2023 and more information will be shared on this webpage nearer to the time.

A limited-edition Cunard x Liberty scarf has been launched to celebrate Liberty’s first store at sea.
The store – which opened on Cunard’s flagship Queen Mary 2 in October 2022 – features the brand’s best-selling items, including silk pyjama sets, purses and bags, as well as two colourways of the special Cunard x Liberty scarf.
The Cunard x Liberty scarf is available on Queen Mary 2 and is priced at $350.
Cunard’s association with Liberty dates back to 1968, when an original bespoke scarf, titled 'Vacances', was hand-painted by Liberty’s design director at the time, Bernard Nevill. The design was hugely successful and reimagined in 1988 for Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth 2. The artists in the Liberty design studio have re-drawn this classic design once more, giving it a modern twist by spotlighting the joyful holiday scenes from the original and springing them from the border, giving the scarf a delightful escapist feel.
Lee Powell, Vice President of Brand & Product, Cunard, said, “We are delighted to celebrate the first ever Liberty store at sea aboard Cunard’s flagship Queen Mary 2, and are especially excited to showcase this beautiful scarf designed exclusively for Cunard by Liberty’s talented team.”
The Liberty store will be operated by Harding+, Cunard’s long term cruise retail partner. Plans are underway for Liberty products to be available on Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria later in the year.

27th September 2022 [Southampton, UK]
Cunard recently celebrated the keel laying of its newest ship, Queen Anne, with a traditional, iconic ceremony on 8 September 2022. This ceremony marked the formal start of her construction at the historic Fincantieri Marghera shipyard in Venice, Italy.
The ceremony was attended by the Cunard and Carnival UK leadership team, along with representatives of Fincantieri and their Marghera Shipyard and the guest of honour, Captain of Queen Anne, Inger Thorhauge.
Steeped in tradition, the ceremony marks the official start of a ship’s life, as the keel is laid for a new vessel. The laying of the keel is the formal recognition of the start of construction, and the ceremony heralds the completion of the intensive design and development stage.
To mark the occasion – and acknowledge Cunard’s seafaring heritage and the significance of this exciting new vessel – a Queen Anne coin has been commissioned. This unique coin was embedded into the ship’s keel by Captain Inger Thorhauge, alongside an original coin from the ship’s namesake’s reign.
Carnival UK President, Sture Myrmell said: “We’re thrilled to celebrate this exciting construction milestone for Queen Anne. Over the last three years, world-leading designers have worked with master ship builders at Fincantieri to design a ship that reinforces our position as a world-famous luxury brand across all continents. Queen Anne will be enjoyed for many generations to come, and we look forward to welcoming her to our fleet.”
As Queen Anne takes shape, Cunard celebrates its own journey thus far of over 180 historic years. A ship inspired by the cruise lines past and built for its future, Queen Anne represents a sense of excitement for what lies ahead for this iconic brand. Queen Anne will enter service in 2024 and will make up a remarkable quartet alongside Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth.

(Southampton, UK): Luxury cruise line Cunard is so confident with guest demand for their Britannia Club staterooms on new ship Queen Anne, that they have increased their volume of this accommodation category by more than 200% versus other ships in the fleet.
The accommodation and dining on board Queen Anne offer upgraded levels of luxury, whatever type guests choose, from Britannia staterooms through to Princess and Queens Grill Suites. Britannia Club, which is an experience unique to Cunard, offers exclusive benefits above those in the Britannia category, and is often considered a ‘taste’ of the Grills Suite experience on board.
Paris Based Sybille de Margerie, whose impressive portfolio includes the Mandarin Paris and Atlantis The Royal Residences in Dubai, was chosen to design several areas including the Britannia Club staterooms on Queen Anne. Each of the 162 staterooms offers a balcony and attention to detail comes as standard, from the striking blue colour palette, to the paper-cut frame artwork inspired by Cunard’s heritage, to the bespoke bedside lights to in-built USB ports.
Guests staying in Britannia Club will be able to dine in the dedicated Britannia Club Restaurant, which is positioned at the heart of the ship next to the atmospheric Grand Lobby, boasting breath-taking panoramic sea views. Guests will have their own dedicated table, reserved exclusively for the duration of their voyage. They can dine for breakfast, lunch and dinner, at whichever time they choose, and will be attended to by Cunard’s renowned White Star Service trained crew.
Sture Myrmell, President, Carnival UK said: “With the design of Queen Anne, we have responded to increasing guest demand for our Britannia Club experience. Guests looking to make their experience on board even more special will now have more opportunity than ever to book one of these coveted staterooms.”
Myrmell, added: “For those looking for something very special, and a true private residence at sea, we guide guests towards the ultimate Cunard experience - a stay in the exclusive Princess and Queens Grill Suites. This experience is like on no other cruise line, allowing leisurely days spent on deck on the dedicated Grills Terrace, a butler for Queens Grill Suite residents and the finest dining options at sea. Whichever stateroom or suite a guest chooses on Queen Anne, they will be steeped in luxury.”
Queen Anne will set sail in early 2024, with her maiden season programme available to book from May 2022.

The crew are fundamental in delivering that quintessential Cunard experience, and I know they will continue to deliver the exceptionally high standards of our White Star Service on Queen Anne that our guests expect from us.’

Queen Anne will be Cunard’s 249th ship and will make up a remarkable quartet of Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth. The name ‘Queen Anne’ celebrates Cunard’s rich heritage, royal history and refined status-joining a luxury contemporary fleet now honouring the names of each Queen Regnant over the last millennium.
The Cunard team explored multiple naming options and inspired by Queen Anne’s reign, engaged with British historian, author and television presenter, Kate Williams, to assist in the detailed research. Kate says, ‘It is so exciting that the fourth ship of the fleet will be named after Queen Anne. She has a fascinating tale to tell –one of queenship, unity of developing constitutional monarchy, a golden age of the arts. She was an inspiring woman, wildly popular with her people. She should be celebrated. This new ship in the Cunard fleet is the perfect way to do it!’
Queen Anne will feature reimagined Cunard signature spaces as well as the introduction of new guest experiences within dining, culture and entertainment, for an unparalleled cruise experience underpinned by outstanding White Star Service. We look forward to sharing more details in the coming weeks and months.’

Southampton, England (April 13, 2021) - Cunard Captain, Christopher Wells, is retiring after a stellar 20 year career with Cunard, part of 30 years spent working across Carnival Corporation cruise lines. In recognition of his outstanding service, he has been awarded the rank of Commodore.
Commodore Wells has spent the last 13 years leading the team on board Cunard’s flagship, Queen Mary 2, having originally been a key part of the commissioning of the ship which launched in 2004.
Cunard president Simon Palethorpe said: “Commodore Wells has been a wonderful ambassador for Cunard, proudly upholding the finest traditions and highest standards of the world’s most famous shipping line. It is only fitting, and I am delighted, that he be awarded the rank of Commodore, the highest rank afforded to any seafarer.
“He’ll be sorely missed by colleagues and guests alike, evidenced by the vast numbers of cards that have been received wishing him all the very best and noting his much-loved sense of humour as well as the respect he commanded. We thank him for the enormous contribution he has made to Cunard, in a highlight packed career, and wish him an equally successful retirement.”
Bournemouth-born Commodore Wells began his career at sea on board tankers and bulk carriers in South East Asia before transitioning to cruise shipping in 1992, first with Cunard then Princess Cruises, P&O Cruises and P&O Cruises Australia before returning to Cunard.
During his three decades on cruise ships, Commodore Wells has had the pleasure of meeting Her Majesty the Queen at the naming event for Queen Mary 2 and once again as Master at the naming of Queen Elizabeth. Another highlight was in 2017 when Commodore Wells climbed the tallest sail of the Sydney Opera House to mark the 10-year anniversary of Queen Mary 2’s very first visit to the Australian city.
Commodore Wells combined his seafaring career with a 25-year commission in the Royal Naval Reserve (RNR) and remains an Honorary Captain in the RNR.

Southampton, 29 June, 2020 – Cruise line Cunard has made a series of food donations to charity over the past four weeks from two of its ships.
Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria, both currently moored in UK waters with no guests on board, have donated 25 pallets/ approximately 23 tons of their supplies to UK food rescue charity, UKHarvest. UKHarvest is a not-for-profit perishable food rescue operation that collects quality excess food from commercial outlets and delivers it, direct and free of charge, to charities. This then provides much needed assistance to vulnerable men, women and children across the UK.
The food donations from both ships have been made up of frozen and chilled fruit and vegetables in addition to other nutritious dry food including staple pantry food, cereal and even chocolate.
Cunard, Executive Chef, Nicholas Oldroyd said, “The Cunard team, both ship and shore, are so pleased to have been able to make a small difference with these donations, especially at this time when so many people globally are going through such a difficult time. We would like to thank our partners, including the Port of Southampton, in making this happen.”
UKHarvest, Founder and CEO, Yvonne Thomson, said, “This contribution of nutritious food has been incredible, especially during the Covid-19 lockdown period. We have been able to donate to Covid-19 Emergency Centres, deliver food parcels to vulnerable people and ensure that school children have been fed. This is the beginning of a relationship with Cunard and we can’t thank Cunard enough for their generosity.”

About Steven Spurrier.
Steven Spurrier is one of the world’s leading authorities on wine. He is a celebrated critic, retailer, teacher and consultant – as well as the visionary behind the legendary Judgement of Paris.
Steven joined the wine trade in 1964 as a trainee with London’s oldest wine merchant Christopher and Co. During his time there he spent many months travelling to Europe - to Bordeaux, Burgundy, the Rhone Valley, Germany and Oporto – to meet with wine houses and producers. He later moved to France, first to Provence and then Paris in 1971 where he opened a shop of his own. Les Caves de la Madeleine achieved recognition as a highly regarded specialist wine shop and Steven went on to start L’Academie du Vin, France’s first private wine school in 1972. It was here where the now legendary “Judgement of Paris” took place – a blind tasting that ranked a Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon from California above some of the most prestigious wines of Burgundy and Bordeaux.
Nowadays, Steven is the director of The Christie’s Wine Course, which he founded with Christie's Education in 1982, wine consultant to Singapore Airlines, and consultant editor to Decanter, as well as having written a series of successful books of his own.
In addition, Steven and his wife Bella produce their own elegant English sparkling wines from their Bride Valley vineyard in Dorset.

London, 11 October 2019 – Cunard and Fincantieri today celebrated the start of construction on the 249th ship of the luxury cruise line, marking an exciting moment in the company’s 179-year history.
The yet unnamed ship, which is being built to meet the growing global demand in luxury cruising, is set to reimagine the luxury cruise experience with an array of unique and exciting on board amenities.
The first section of the ship is under construction at Fincantieri’s Castellammare di Stabia ship yard. The shipbuilding group previously delivered Cunard’s popular and world-renowned Queen Victoria in 2007 and Queen Elizabeth in 2010.
The steel cutting ceremony is a keystone-event in the life of Cunard’s new ship, marking the commencement of building works that will culminate in its delivery in Monfalcone, Gorizia, Italy, in 2022.
Of the occasion, Simon Palethorpe, President, Cunard said, “After years of planning and design, we are delighted to see building works commence on our newest ship. The 249th Cunarder will be our fourth luxury liner for the 21st century. The new ship is taking inspiration from the successes of our past, integrating the Cunard spirit with exciting new concepts and ideas that will provide a uniquely luxurious travel experience for our guests.”
Mr Gilberto Tobaldi, Castellammare Shipyard Director, Fincantieri added, “We are very proud to be embarking on this next chapter of Cunard’s history with the start of the build of their newest ship and we look forward to working with the Cunard and Carnival UK teams over the next months.”
Cunard used the auspicious occasion to announce the commissioning of a unique sculpture, masterly crafted from the first piece of metal cut for the new ship. Acclaimed sculptor Sam Shendi will complete the work, which will be displayed on board the ship for Cunard’s guests to enjoy. Shendi is an Egyptian-born, British sculptor and uses contemporary industrial material, steel, stainless steel, aluminium and fibreglass to create his figurative work.
Shendi said, “I’m really looking forward to working with the Cunard team and to be given the challenge of creating a sculpture from the first piece of steel cut for their new ship is such a unique opportunity. It would be exciting for any artist to be part of such a long history and know that their artwork will travel the world on the ship connecting guests from all corners of the globe.”
With construction underway, the new ship’s interior designers will work alongside Fincantieri to deliver a one of a kind on board experience. Led by globally acclaimed designer Adam D. Tihany, the award winning design team includes Simon Rawlings (David Collins Studio), Terry McGillicuddy (Richmond International) and Sybille de Margerie (Sybille de Margerie Paris). Each brings experience from various world-class international hotels and resorts with the aim of delivering a new standard of Cunard luxury.
Cunard’s new ship is set to enter service in 2022 with bookings commencing next year.

Cunard’s new advert ‘Dreams’ will appear in every UK cinema before every screening of the new Downton Abbey movie reaching an estimated 3.9 million adults
New cinema advert features British philosopher Alan Watts and celebrates Cunard’s iconic Transatlantic Crossing
London, September 13, 2019 – From today, luxury cruise line Cunard will make its first cinema appearance with their new advert ‘Dreams’ which will appear in every UK cinema before every screening of the new Downton Abbey movie.
The advert, which has been created by Cunard’s retained agency Alpha Century, draws from the emotions evoked from travelling on the world’s only ocean liner Queen Mary 2, on an iconic Transatlantic Crossing with Cunard.
Featuring Alan Watts a British philosopher, writer, and speaker the 40-second advert invites the audience to dream of love, banquets, wonderful journeys and music beyond all belief and then, once you have done all that, forget that you were dreaming.
“In a world where we often find it hard to switch off, a holiday on board a Cunard ship is the perfect place to escape the everyday. This advert captures what it feels like to experience the magic of a Cunard voyage on board our flagship Queen Mary 2 as she journeys across the Atlantic.” said David Milo Jones, Marketing Director, Cunard.
Downton Abbey was chosen as the platform to release the new advert by Cunard’s retained media buying agency Wavemaker, who wanted to provide Cunard with the perfect combination of reach, impact and context.
“We know that many of our target audience of discerning travellers are passionate Downton Abbey fans, so a return to the big screen was too good an opportunity for us to miss.” Jones added.
The Cunard campaign also includes branded content produced by Alpha Century that will run across Cunard’s social media channels and be distributed to Cunard’s international teams to use in their own sales and marketing channels.
Barney Girling, Executive Creative Director, Alpha Century said, "Until you’ve sailed on board Cunard you can't quite appreciate the atmosphere they have created, through over a century of careful fine tuning. Alan Watts’ distinctive speech about finding oneself within an infinite dream, perfectly captured the sheer magic and scale of what Cunard now offer their guests.”
Downton Abbey took the world by storm when it debuted on ITV in 2010, gaining popularity throughout its six-season run until finally calling it a day in 2015. The show followed the aristocratic Crawley family and their team of dedicated servants on the fictional Yorkshire Estate, Downton Abbey, from 1912 until 1925. Starring Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery and Hugh Bonneville the film is set in 1927, and features a royal visit to Downton Abbey by King George V and Queen Mary.

Cunard will be the only cruise line offering 10, 11 and 12 day round trip voyages from Vancouver in 2020 that soak up the majestic and pristine drama of both Glacier Bay and Hubbard Glacier. London, June 26, 2019 – Luxury cruise line Cunard has welcomed back one of their oldest living former crewmembers as he prepares to celebrate his 100th birthday in the same month that Cunard will celebrate 100-years of sailing from the City of Southampton.
November 2019 marks a century since the record-breaking superliner RMS. Mauretania inaugurated Cunard’s Southampton express transatlantic service; linking the Hampshire shipping hub with New York City.
Former Cunard bellhop, John ‘Jack’ Jenkins MBE, who recently gave a moving speech at the D-Day commemoration ceremony in Portsmouth attended by Her Majesty the Queen, HRH The Prince of Wales and US President Donald Trump, was recently welcomed on board Cunard’s iconic ocean liner Queen Mary 2 by Captain Aseem Hashmi MNM for a celebratory lunch. Whilst on board, the Captain invited Mr Jenkins to inspect the ship’s bellhops – to ensure they met the high standards of 1930s Cunard service.
Queen Mary 2’s crew easily passed the inspection, though Mr Jenkins was quick to point out that working on board Mauretania was quite different to how it is today.
“I remember one of my first trips, when we sailed to the West Indies. When we would arrive in port I would then have to walk around on deck with a gong, as we had no tannoy system back then, and bang the gong and say, ‘all visitors ashore, all visitors ashore’,” Mr Jenkins recalls.
Born at a time when ocean liners were the only way to travel, Mr Jenkins went on to join Cunard in 1933 as a bellhop and lift operator. RMS. Mauretania was the first Cunard ship he was appointed to – the very ship that established Cunard’s Southampton hub in the year of his birth.
After Mauretania was retired in 1934, Mr Jenkins served on board the Cunard ship Ascania until the outbreak of World War II. Joining the war effort, he fought at D-Day in 1945, before returning to the UK to take up a career in the merchant navy.
Captain Hashmi said, “It was such an honour to welcome back Mr Jenkins to the Cunard family. It felt like a very fitting way to start our centenary celebrations, here in Southampton, and of course to congratulate Mr Jenkins on such a special milestone birthday that he will celebrate later this year. The members of the ship’s company and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to stories of what life was like on board, and we look forward to the opportunity to do so again.”
Departing November 18, 2019, Queen Mary 2 will undertake an historic Transatlantic Crossing from Southampton to New York – in tribute of the century-long relationship between the City and Cunard.
Guests on this celebratory voyage will journey into the past thanks to a travelling maritime exhibition from Southampton’s Sea City Museum, as well as a series of enrichment lectures on board. Maritime Historian and author Chris Frame, will be joined by local history expert Penny Legg, each presenting a series of unique talks about the long and illustrious history of Cunard and Southampton.
