Maria Friedman
Maria Friedman - Award-winning actress

With a string of awards to her name including three Olivier Awards and eight nominations, Evening Standard and Critics Circle Awards, and many other theatre accolades, both from the West End and Broadway stage, Maria Friedman is in demand as undoubtedly one of our most successful leading musical theatre ladies. Maria will be exclusively performing her one woman show on board Queen Mary 2.

Having won an Olivier Award for her one-woman cabaret, Maria Friedman By Special Arrangement at the Donmar (1995) she was then awarded a second for Best Actress in a Musical as “Fosca” in the West End production of Stephen Sondheim's Passion (1996) and again for Ragtime (2003). She has also appeared in Merrily We Roll Along, Blues in the Night, Chicago, The Witches of Eastwick and Lady in the Dark. In 2004 she originated the role of Marian Halcombe in Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical, The Woman in White, both in the West End and on Broadway.  

In 2013 Maria has made her directorial debut at the Menier Chocolate Factory with a production of Stephen Sondheim's musical Merrily We Roll Along. After a series of 5 star reviews, the Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, and a sell-out extended run it transferred into the West End.

Dr Allan Hamilton
Allan J. Hamilton, MD

Allan Hamilton started off his working life as a janitor. Today, he holds four Professorships at the University of Arizona in Neurosurgery, Radiation Oncology, Psychology, and Electrical and Computer Engineering. He graduated from Harvard Medical School and completed training at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He has been chosen by his peers as 'One of America’s Best Doctors' for the last fourteen consecutive years.

Dr. Hamilton's first book, The Scalpel and the Soul: Encounters with Surgery, the Supernatural, and the Healing Power of Hope discussed the need for an integrative approach in medicine combining both mind and spirit to address the patient’s physical needs.

Dr. Hamilton has served for several years as medical script consultant to the TV series Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. He is also a renowned horse trainer and his book, Zen Mind, Zen Horse—The Science and Spirituality of Working with Horses was awarded the 2012 Nautilus Gold Award, recognizing non-fiction books about spirituality "that change the world one book at a time." Previous Nautilus Gold Award winners include Deepak Chopra, Eckhart Tolle, and His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

In 2000, Dr. Hamilton was selected as 'One of the Great Intellects of the 21st Century.' He has been a featured guest on PBS, CNN, ABC Evening News, and The NBC Today Show.

Eamonn Gearon
Eamonn Gearon - Historian

Eamonn Gearon is a writer, Arabist, historian and analyst who has been based in the Greater Middle East – from Kabul to Casablanca – for nearly 20 years, writing about some of the world’s most fascinating, little understood and sometimes dangerous places, most recently covering the Egyptian revolution.

An accomplished solo, camel-powered, Saharan explorer, these days Eamonn spends most of his time engaged as a free-lance regional analyst and consultant. His clients include government officials, security companies and private business on both sides of the Atlantic. With an intimate understanding of the Middle East’s complex mix of cultures and traditions, and being able to speak, read and write Arabic, Eamonn is uniquely placed to guide audiences through the region, whether on the ground or through his fascinating lectures.

Steve Rivellino
Steven Rivellino - Theatre and Broadway Expert

With credits that span the worlds of Broadway, London’s West End, broadcast television, concerts and corporate and special events, Steven Rivellino has become one of the most successful Executive Producers and Theatrical General Managers in the entertainment industry.

As the former Vice President and General Manager of New York’s Radio City Music Hall®, he produced The Grammy Awards®, the MTV Video Music Awards®, and fourteen editions of the world-famous Radio City Christmas Spectacular® starring the Rockettes™. His concert credits include Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Gloria Estefan, Bette Midler, Madonna, Liberace, Ann-Margret, Ella Fitzgerald, and Frank Sinatra.

Some of his Broadway credits include Kat and the Kings (Olivier Award Best Musical London/1999 Broadway), Marlene (1999) starring Siân Phillips, The Story Of My Life (2009: 4 Drama Desk Nominations including Best Musical); Prick Up Your Ears (2009: London’s West End); Memphis (2010 Winner of 4 TONY Awards including Best Musical); Evita (2012: Best Revival TONY Nomination) starring Ricky Martin, Elena Roger, and Michael Cerveris; and After Midnight (2013: 7 TONY Award Nominations) starring Dulé Hill, Fantasia, and Wynton Marsalis’ Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra. He is currently represented on Broadway by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s newest musical Hamilton at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

Markus Steblei
Markus Steblei - Astronomer

Markus Steblei graduated in computer science after 4 years of studies at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. Astronomy has always been an important part of his life - apart from technology.

During his studies he worked as a planetarium operator at the Munich Planetarium at Forum der Technik where he already prepared and presented live and pre-recorded astronomy shows to the public. He has previously been the director of the Munich Planetarium. He joined Sky-Skan Europe GmbH in Munich (Sky-Skan installed the planetarium on board the QM2) as technical director where he takes care of the training of new customers in Sky-Skan's planetarium hard and software, installation of these components and performs consulting work in order to allow Sky-Skan's customers to take full advantage of the capabilities of their new equipment.
