Your day in Beijing begins at Qianmen Street, which prospered as a commercial strip as early as Yuan Dynasty (1206-1368). Using historical photos this area has been restored to fit the early twentieth century, and remains Beijings 2nd busiest street. Here you can see the remaining five hundred year old Qianmen city gate. Let your guide lead you to time honoured eateries, taste a bite of famous Peking roast duck and Shao Mai, a steamed dumpling with pork or other stuffing, a taste that truly belongs to old Beijing.

Then head into the Hutong, where old style alleyways blaze a trail to one-story courtyard houses renowned in Beijing. With many areas now protected, Houhai is one of these places, which has proved to be a mix of history, fashion and shops.

Board a rickshaw for a scenic drive in Houhai area. Disembark at the middle of a busy area; grab a local kabab to hit your appetite before heading for a free exploration. Walk with your guide to a local resident’s home to learn how to make China’s most famed festival food – dumplings.

Discover an authentic Chinese culinary experience, and enjoy a taste of local household dumplings together with your local host, before bidding farewell and re-joining your rickshaw for a fun ride back to the coach.
