Step back into ancient times close to the most spectacular memorial to the Roman Empire in Britain. This World Heritage Site was built between 122 and 138AD to follow the contours of the land, and you’ll stop at Heddon on the Wall to admire the longest visible stretch, 10 Roman feet thick. Continue to Chesters Fort, an incredibly preserved Roman cavalry fort, whose remains include the bath house with an underground heating system. Visit the museum filled with Roman sculptures found along the Wall. On the return journey, a stop at Housesteads reveals views over the Northumbrian countryside.
