The mighty volcano Vesuvius is famed the world over, and this is your chance to see it at close quarters. You’ll be driven to a height of 3,000 feet, before continuing your journey on foot, heading up to the volcano’s crater walls, where your alpine guide will point out Vesuvius’s hot spots. After a delicious lunch, continue to Herculaneum. This ancient town was engulfed by mud, which had an incredible preserving effect, far better than that seen in Pompeii. See houses, shops, baths, foodstuffs and fabrics, frozen in time and offering a unique insight to everyday life in antiquity.
