Soak up Crete’s dramatic, coastal vistas during your scenic drive to the bustling resort of Elounda. From there it’s just a short boat ride to the intriguing island of Spinalonga, commonly referred to as the Island of Tears.

Entering the island through Dante’s Gate, your guided walk will take you along the main street. Now abandoned, this quaint village with its shops, houses, and small church appears as a normal Cretan village, until its haunting past is revealed. Housed within the formidable Venetian fortress walls are the remains of Europe’s last leper colony.

You’ll then sail across Mirabello Bay to the old fishing harbour of Elounda. Despite its popularity as an upmarket holiday resort, Elounda’s charm has been carefully preserved. Enjoy some free time exploring the boutiques, relaxing on the blue flag beach, or visiting the town square.
