Take a scenic drive along the picturesque west coast to the Dougaldston Estate, an old plantation house dating back to the 18th Century. Here you will receive an introduction to the main trade of the island: the magical world of spice.Your spice discovery will continue at the nutmeg factory in Gouyave. As you inhale nutmeg and mace, 2 signature scents of the island, your guide will explain how the delicate spice is seasoned, processed and sorted ready for export.Then it's off to the River Antoine Rum Distillery, the oldest operational rum plant in the Caribbean. En route, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Grenadine Islands. During a short stop at Carib Leap, you'll see the place where the last fighting Caribs committed suicide in 1651.After your guided journey through the sugar cane process, your will no doubt be ready for lunch. At the Belmont Estate your expert guide will take you through the nuances of the cocoa crop, before you sit down to soak up the stunning views and tantalize your taste buds with a wide range of typical Creole dishes. Leaving the restaurant, you will head back to the ship via the National Reserve of Grand Etang, home of the Annendale Falls. Time permitting you can enjoy a short walk through the rainforest and surrounding gardens, and perhaps take the opportunity to dip your toes into the cool waters of the falls.
