You’ll be met by your guide at the pier and walk into the centre of the colourful town of St Peter Port, which has a fascinating history. A busy port since Roman times, the deep, safe anchorage and relative remoteness from France has made the town the Channel Islands’ premier port. With its cobbled streets, narrow alleyways and picturesque seafront marina, it is considered one of Europe’s prettiest harbour towns. Your guide will regale you with the town’s history, as we walk through the bustling streets.
Your walk continues past the 13th century Castle Cornet and on to the La Vallette Underground Military Museum. Set in air conditioned tunnels, originally built by the German´s as a fuel storage facility for U Boats, this is a fascinating and thought-provoking museum reflecting the German occupation of Guernsey.
After your visit you’ll see the superb view across Havelet Bay towards Castle Cornet from the Victorian Bathing Pools adjacent to the museum. Next, you’ll walk back to St Peter Port harbour, where free time will be given to enjoy St Peter Port or perhaps visit Castle Cornet, before returning to the ship.
