Make the most of your day in Martinique, on a route through the island’s historic locations and beautiful scenery. A drive along the east coast leads to Sainte Marie and the factory of Sainte James, to sample the excellent local rum. Continue to Saint Pierre, scene of the devastating eruption of Mount Pelée in 1902. After lunch nearby, you’ll return via the west coast past Case Pilote, one of the oldest fishing villages on the island. You’ll also see where Columbus landed in 1502 and where Gauguin lived and painted some of his most beautiful canvases.
