Sit back and relax for a scenic 2½ hour journey through the attractive Normandy countryside to Mont Saint Michel, also called “The wonder of the West”. During any season of the year it leaves an indelible impression owing to its island setting, rich history and the beauty of its architecture.
Once in Mont Saint Michel, you’ll ascend through the twisted cobblestoned walkways, passing old houses, restaurants and tiny boutiques. It has been said that there are 365 steps from the bottom to the top of the Mont. In summer it is lively and crowded with the stalls of souvenir merchants, just as it was in the middle ages at the height of the most fervent pilgrimages.
The Abbey is a masterpiece of Normandy architecture. Inside you'll discover the ways of the monks by visiting their famous dining hall, and the beautiful gothic cloister, which appears to be suspended between sky and sea. You’ll visit the ramparts, a sentry walk which offers a fine view of the bay, and the Abbey's gardens.
In this medieval town, men and women uphold the tradition of the shopkeepers who, for over a thousand years, have looked after visitors and pilgrims in search of a memento of their stay at this unique site. You will find a wide variety of goods including copperware, pottery, chinaware as well as butter cookies and other Normandy specialities. You’ll be given some free time to browse for souvenirs.
