Board your coach at the port and head for Barumini and Casa Zapata. Although it’s listed as a museum, it’s actually three museums in one, all housed in the grounds and structures of a fine historical mansion – the Palazzo Zapata. In their entirety, the three collections are a historical museum, an ethnographic museum and an archaeological museum. The manor house came into being when the noble Zapata family elected to establish its baronial residence in Barumini, building the Palazzo residence in the 16th and 17th centuries. There are catwalks and ramps for easy walking.
Follow your guide and explore well-preserved 17th century life and ancient Sardinian traditions.
Afterwards, you’ll go on a short, scenic drive to the Olianas estate. This is home to Sardinia’s first ever bio-integral winery. The owners have gradually developed a form of ethical agriculture where environmental protection takes top priority. At Olinas, you’ll have the chance to sample the winery’s varieties and enjoy a traditional Sardinian snack before re-boarding the bus and heading back to the port in Cagliari.
