Explore Corsica’s wild, rugged landscapes of mountains, forests and fragrant maquis. Maquis is the dense undergrowth of shrubs, flowers and low trees that covers much of the island. It’s particularly aromatic in the springtime, and has earned Corsica the nickname of “The Scented Isle.” Pass the village of Cauro, through the Pineta Forest and wind along the Prunelli’s river gorge, with its red granite cliffs. Pause at the artificial lake and dam of Tolla, while on your return journey, appreciate views of typical hill villages of tall granite houses.
