Asia is varied in culture and landscape, and is brimming with fantastic places to visit. See Kyoto in Japan, home to 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the beautiful Golden Pavilion and several other historic temples. Travel north from Beijing to walk the Great Wall, then return to visit the famous Forbidden City.

For unique, awe-inspiring architecture, visit Singapore: here you can see the Marina Bay Sands and the Gardens by the Bay, a forest of man-made solar trees standing 50 meters high. Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnamese city formerly known as Saigon, is unparalleled in its traditional buildings and culture. If beaches and watersports are more your cup of tea, a port call at Bali should more than suffice: the crystal waters are perfect for snorkeling, waterskiing and viewing local marine life.

The climate in Asia, particularly in the South-east, tends to be hot and humid. Light, breathable layers are key here: loose shirts and shorts, dresses and skirts are a good choice, whereas jeans are best avoided! Sun protection and a light waterproof jacket are also advised, as well as comfortable shoes for exploring cities, or more rugged terrain, on foot.

Bear in mind that you may be expected, as per local customs, to dress conservatively in certain areas, such as when visiting temples and other religious sites. Cover shoulders and legs above the knees, and avoid scoop-neck or low-cut tops. It might be wise to carry a loose scarf or shawl as well.
