With its boat-bedecked harbour, 16th century ramparts and cobbled streets, Antibes is the perfect alternative to the glitz and glamour of Monte Carlo. The town was founded by the Greeks over 2,000 years ago as Antipolis, but changed rule many times before becoming commonly known as Antibes.
Pass by the harbour and enter the walls of Vieil Antibes (Old Town), to begin a guided walking tour of the ramparts and flower lined streets. Your path will present an abundance of photo opportunities before arriving at the Provencal Market area, where you’ll have some free time to sit and enjoy a refreshing drink in one of the many cafés or head off to explore some of the town’s many hidden treasures.
The foot of the ramparts is home to a small sandy beach, test the temperature and maybe take a dip, or discover Antibes’ links to Pablo Picasso. Chateau Grimaldi was Picasso’s home for six months and became the world’s first Museum to be dedicated to the artist.
