Your tour begins with a scenic drive to familiarise you with Oporto city centre and the ocean front, before arriving at Cordoaria, where your guided walking tour will commence. To enhance the guide’s commentary, headsets will be provided.
During your walk, you will view the exterior of the 18th century church of ‘Carmo and Carmelitas’ which is famous for its blue and white ceramic tile façades. Walk down Clerigos Street, which is location of the best known landmark of the city, the ‘Clerigos’ baroque tower.
Continue onto Avenida dos Aliados, a large monumental square surrounded by famous outdoor cafés and elegant hotels. Enter the São Bento Railway station hall to admire its 20th century tile panels by the famous painter Jose Colaço.
View the Romanesque Cathedral, ‘Se’, and enjoy the beautiful panorama over the city and old harbour. Your guided walk continues, passing in front of the Stock Exchange and the Sao Francisco Church, onto Ribeira Quarter, the oldest and most picturesque district. After a short orientation of this area, enjoy some free time for souvenir shopping or just relax in one of the many pleasant river-front café terraces.
