Begin your tour at literally one of Taipei’s ‘highlights’, the Taipei 101 Tower one of the world’s tallest buildings. Here, you will be able to venture up to the 89th floor to access the viewing platform, which will provide you with spectacular views of the entire city.
Coming back down to earth you’ll make a photograph stop at Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall. Built in 1980, in honour of the former president, this popular octagonal monument is not only the site of the museum and statue of Chiang Kai Shek, but has also been the site of many political changes to Taiwan’s movement into a democratic future.
Taiwan is a mixture of Chinese, Japanese and Aboriginal tribes and this is best displayed at the Handicraft Centre, where the traditional crafts are being kept alive and can be purchased as mementos of your time here.
To round off your day, you’ll visit the very colourful Pao-An Temple, which took over 25 years to build. Dedicated to the God of Medicine and Healing, it was created with wood brought all the way from China. From the fierce dragons snaking around the pillars, to the multicoloured tiles adorning the roof, this charming temple will provide you with an enduring memory of the city of Taipei on your way back to port.
