As you embark on a journey across the fjord, you’ll travel along the slopes of Vadlaheidi Mountain, through the Fnjoskadalur Valley, and alongside the rare woodlands of Vaglaskogur Forest, en route to Goðafoss – the ‘Waterfall of the Gods’. This breath-taking crescent stands almost 40 feet high and stretches over 100 feet wide, creating one of the country’s most spectacular natural vistas.
At the Laufás Folk Museum, which is housed in a traditional 19th century, stone and turf farmhouse, you can step back into the past, as you stroll through the interesting household and agricultural implements used by the gentry from that time.
On your scenic return you’ll stop at the world’s most northerly Botanical Gardens, to admire 2,000 species of local and foreign plants, before taking a leisurely drive around the old town and main sights of Akureyri.
