    Relive the days, and perhaps your youth, of the swinging 60’s aboard the psychedelic ‘Magic Bus’.

    Sit back, relax and adjust your eyes as you are thrown into a psychedelic trip back to 1960’s San Francisco. As you travel through this wonderful city, your bus will fill with video and music and you’ll be toe tapping along to the sounds of famous artists such as the Beatles and Dusty Springfield.

    Your drive will take in highlights such as the culturally vibrant Chinatown, the historic centre of the Beatnik Generation, North Beach, and you’ll also pass haunts such as the City Lights Bookstore, where Jack Kerouac and other pioneering figures of this generation spent their days.

    A stop will be made at the Golden Gate Park, where you’ll learn how America’s largest urban park was the site of the first Human Be-In and Earth Day. Enjoy the lovely views, before rejoining the ‘Magic Bus’ for the return drive to the pier and a final 60’s sing song!

    Your adventure begins as you enter the gates of San Francisco's famed Chinatown for a guided evening walk, where you’ll discover the hidden treasures of one of the largest Chinese communities outside of Asia. Your senses come alive with sights and sounds as you explore the secrets of these narrow streets and alleyways. Sights include the Chinese markets, theatres, herb shops, temples and more. You will even visit a fortune cookie factory for good luck!

    Afterwards, hop onboard your coach to view exciting San Francisco by night. Drive past the glittering lights of Fisherman's Wharf and view Telegraph Hill, Coit Tower, the Broadway Strip and the historic Ferry Building. Cross the Bay Bridge to Treasure Island and savour a breathtaking view of the city by night before returning to your ship.

    Take a drive to the Napa Valley and step aboard a vintage train to enjoy scenery, wine tasting and a delicious three-course meal.

    Setting off from the port, your drive will take you over the Golden Gate Bridge and north east towards the wine county of Napa Valley.

    Upon arrival in Napa, you’ll step aboard a vintage train for a three hour round trip to St Helena and back. Relive the glory days of train travel in Pullman vintage rail cars that have been lovingly restored. The mahogany paneling, brass accents and etched glass partitions evoke the spirit of rail travel in the early 1900s. As the train pulls away, sit back, relax and admire the picturesque Napa Valley scenery, with its rolling hills of countryside scattered with vineyards. During the train ride you’ll sample selection of wines, referred to as a ‘wine flight’, which will showcase the best of the regions offerings. A delicious three-course meal will also be served.

    As your train ride reaches its end back in Napa, you’ll re-board a coach for the return drive to San Francisco.

    This excursion will operate by coach, train and on foot. Places on this tour are limited to 32 guests. Once full, places will be on a request basis only and may not be guaranteed. The coach journey to and from the Napa Valley is around 1½ hours each way. Kindly note that the outward scenery will duplicate that seen on the round trip train ride. Wine will only be served to those over the age of 21. Please remember local currency or a debit or credit card for payment if you wish to purchase additional wine or refreshments. A degree of agility is required when boarding the train with steps to negotiate. There are toilet facilities on the train. The train ride is not exclusive to Cunard. Weather and time permitting, Twin Peaks provides spectacular views of the city known as ‘the Jewel of the West’.

    Get ready to explore the wonderful city of San Francisco by Segway!

    Step on a Segway and experience San Francisco in a unique way!

    You’ll be met at the pier by your Segway guide, who will provide a safety brief and instruction before setting off along San Francisco’s waterfront. Your Segway experience will take you along the famous Fisherman’s Wharf and San Francisco’s Little Italy area of North Beach. Discover facts about the city as you listen to a narration by your knowledgeable guide via a compact radio receiver.

    Along the way, photograph stops will be made for you to admire great views of San Francisco Bay and the City Skyline.

    ACTIVITY EXCURSIONS
    You and all those in your party should be aware that, in undertaking activity excursions, you will be involved in a degree of physical exertion and/or activity such as hiking, biking, snorkelling, kayaking, diving etc. By booking the excursion you confirm that you and all those in your party are in good physical and mental condition, with no history of conditions such as seizures, dizziness, fainting, heart condition, respiratory problems or back/neck problems (by way of example only).     TRAVEL INSURANCE
    Before booking any activity excursions it is essential that you ensure your travel insurance extends to cover the specified activity. It is your responsibility to obtain adequate insurance.

    This excursion will operate by Segway. Children and pregnant women may not participate. The minimum weight limit is seven stone and the maximum is 20 stone. This tour is not suitable for those with injuries or conditions, or who have had major knee, hip, ankle or foot injuries or balance conditions such as vertigo. Flat, closed toe shoes are essential. The Segway ride lasts around one hour and the order of itinerary may vary. Cameras or phones must not be used whilst riding the Segway; stops are provided en route to rest and take photographs. Please do not wear loose clothing, such as sarongs or long loose trousers that may become caught in the Segway’s wheels or snag on ground objects. It is advisable to take a back pack, sunscreen and a bottle of water.

  • Silicon Valley - Tech Capital of the World

    Discover California’s famous Silicon Valley, home to the highest concentration of technology companies in the world.

    Take a journey to Silicon Valley along Highway 280, often referred to locally as ‘the world’s most panoramic freeway’.

    Upon arrival, you’ll head to the Apple campus, where Steve Jobs reigned supreme, for a photograph stop. Nearby, you can also catch a glimpse of Apple’s newly completed and ultra-modern five billion dollar campus, nicknamed ‘The Spaceship’, which will soon be home to the innovations of the future. Continue to the Intel Museum, where you’ll gain an insight into the basic building block of computers, the microchip. Discover the story behind Intel’s first microprocessor and learn how it changed the course of technology and the world.

    Afterwards, a light snack will be served at a local venue, before heading to the Google headquarters for a photograph stop. Here you can view the colourful Lollipop, Jelly Bean, KitKat and Marshmallow statues. The sweet treats mentioned are actually code names for the various operating systems that Google has used in its Android platform. To round off your tour, a photograph stop will be made at the Facebook campus, where you can pose in front of the famous thumbs up icon located at the headquarters’ entrance.

    After an inspiring day, your return drive will take you back to the pier via Highway 101.

    This excursion will operate by coach and on foot. The journey to Silicon Valley is around one hour. This tour involves around two hours of leisurely walking over varying terrain. Flat, comfortable shoes are recommended. Access is not permitted inside the office headquarters. Photograph stops are made in areas surrounding or adjacent to the campus grounds only.

  • The Beauty of Muir Woods

    Discover the enchanting Muir Woods, home to some of the tallest and oldest Redwood trees in existence.

    Enjoy the sights of the city as you pass through San Francisco. Crossing the spectacular Golden Gate Bridge, you’ll have wonderful views of the bay and surrounding areas.

    After your drive, you’ll arrive at the Muir Woods where you will have around two hours to explore at your own leisure. Admire the beauty of one of the few remaining groves of virgin coastal Redwoods and take the nature trail that leads you into the heart of the cathedral-like grove of trees. Take a moment to enjoy the serenity of this majestic setting, whilst learning the fascinating history of the coastal Redwoods. Be sure to take your camera to capture some wonderful shots of these towering trees. During your visit, you’ll also have the opportunity to explore one of the Visitor’s Centres or meander along the surrounding trails.

    On the return journey, a short photograph stop will be made at the Marin Headlands for a panoramic view from the Northwest side of the Golden Gate Bridge.

    This excursion will operate by bus and on foot. All views are weather dependent. To derive full enjoyment on this tour, some walking is required. Some paths at Muir Woods can be uneven in places. It is advisable to take a light jacket as it may feel cooler in the woods. Comfortable, non-slip shoes are recommended.

  • Vintage Fire Truck Experience

    What a great way to see San Francisco; on board a vintage open air fire truck!

    Vintage Fire Truck Experience

    Step aboard a shiny red 1955 Mack fire truck and travel through the streets of San Francisco and across the Golden Gate Bridge. You’ll also don a fireman’s outfit to add to the authenticity!

    Your fire truck will take you past Fisherman's Wharf to the Presidio, previously a military base before it was designated as a National Park. Then it’s on to Fort Point at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge where you’ll have an amazing vantage point of this engineering marvel. You’ll cross the world famous bridge to Fort Baker and enjoy a short photo stop to admire San Francisco’s skyline, before making your way to the Marin Headlands for lovely views of San Francisco across the bay.

    Heading back over the Golden Gate Bridge, your tour will conclude with a drive through the Union Street neighbourhood and back to the cruise terminal.

    This excursion will operate by vintage fire truck. This tour involves limited walking, however guests must be able to negotiate a large step to board the fire truck. Guests will be provided with firemen suits which are not compulsory to wear. The fire truck is open air and subject to the elements of the weather and a warm jumper or jacket is advised. The ride on board the Vintage Fire lasts approximately one hour. The vehicle has no storage for wheelchairs.

    South of San Francisco is the famed Monterey Peninsula, one of California's most scenic and historic areas. Your morning departure from San Francisco begins a day-long adventure down the breathtaking California Coast. Relax and enjoy the scenic drive past the quaint beach towns of Santa Cruz and Capitola en route to Monterey. Stops along the way provide an opportunity to view Monterey Bay and the rugged coastline. While in Monterey, you'll have time to explore the interesting sights and shops of Steinbeck’s Cannery Row and admire the beautiful views over Monterey Bay. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant accompanied by a glass of Californian wine, mineral water and coffee.

    After lunch you’ll take the scenic 17 Mile Drive to the seaside town of Carmel. Known the world over, the 17-Mile Drive features spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean as well as beautiful estates and mansions interspersed among the holes of the championship Pebble Beach Golf Course. Upon arrival in Carmel, you’ll have some free time to browse the many local art galleries and speciality boutiques for which the town is famous.

    Your return to San Francisco will be through Silicon Valley, the heart of the high tech corridor where the dot-com era was born.

    The day ends fittingly at the Domaine Carneros Winery of Taittinger fame. The spectacular estate features an elegant chateau inspired by Champagne Taittinger’s historic Chateau de la Marquetterie in France. Entering via the grand staircase, you’ll enjoy inspiring vineyard views on either side, with the beautiful gardens below. Here, you’ll see a different process as you learn how sparkling wine is made.
