Buenos Aires cruises

Argentina’s capital possesses a grandeur embodied by the Colon Theatre, one of the world’s great opera houses. The vast Recoleta Cemetery is worth a visit too, where you’ll find the black marble memorial that is the resting place of Eva Peron. For many, the city’s soul lies in districts like La Boca, home to colourful houses and lively tango cafés.

Excursions

Please note: The shore excursions listed are typical for this port. The full programme of shore excursions available for your cruise will be displayed on Cruise Personaliser at least 12 weeks prior to departure.

  • Tango Show and Dinner

Experience a performance of the world famous Tango Show accompanied by a traditional Argentine Dinner.

    Tango Show and Dinner

In the late 19th century the village of Buenos Aires was becoming an immigrant city, where frustrated and melancholic Europeans displaced gaucho rustics, who retreated gradually to the ever more distant countryside. The children of those immigrants would become the first generation of ‘porteños’ (locals) and became the catalyst of the tango-song summarising the new urban style.

Permeated with nostalgia over a disappearing way of life, the Tango expressed the apprehensions and anxieties of the people at the time during an unsettled period in history.

During this unforgettable evening you will have the opportunity to admire all qualities of tango in its different expressions with tango dancers and singers as well as a tango orchestra. Get to know this amazing country through its traditional dance, music and local cuisine.

This excursion will operate by coach. There is minimal walking on this tour. Two drinks and coffee are included with dinner, however further beverages are available for purchase. Suggested dress code is Smart Casual. Filming and photography with flash are not allowed during the show. The show is not exclusive to Cunard Line.

  • Highlights & Tango with Lunch

Take a scenic drive highlighting important city landmarks and a colourful performance of Argentine tango.

    Highlights & Tango with Lunch

Enjoy a panoramic city drive along jacaranda-lined boulevards and capture views of El Centro and the old Bohemian San Telmo district. At La Boca, enjoy a stroll along the Carminito, the main street, to soak up the flavour of one of Buenos Aires' oldest and most authentic neighbourhoods. Traffic permitting, your excursion will continue to the Plaza de Mayo which is the political and cultural heart of the city. Evita Perón, the second wife of President Juan Perón, was the First Lady of Argentina from 1946 until her death at the age of 33. She gained influence by speaking on behalf of labour rights, and founded Argentina's first large-scale female political party. At La Recoleta Cemetery, you'll wander through the last resting place for many of Buenos Aires' most influential people, including the immortal Evita. A fanciful array of 6,400 Neoclassical, Neogothic, Art Nuevo and Art Deco-style mausoleums are laid out like a city with street names and a town centre. During your guided tour, listen to stories of "Evita" as you see her black marble crypt. To complete your immersion in Argentine history and culture, enjoy a luncheon of regional cuisine at a local restaurant followed by a specially arranged performance at a traditional tango hall in San Telmo.

This excursion will operate by coach and on foot. Due to traffic regulations the stop at Plaza de Mayo maybe omitted. The order of the sites may vary. There is approximately 1½ hours of walking over uneven terrain and cobblestones. The Dress code at the tango venue is casual.
