  • Bergen by Segway

    Roll around Bergen on a unique sightseeing Segway experience, it’s a really fun and informative way to see the city.

    Join your knowledgeable guide at the quayside for a small group Segway experience. Following a short walk to the Segway start, you’ll have a brief training session then head off on an enjoyable ride around the city.

    Enroute you’ll pass by one of Norway’s oldest and best preserved castles, Bergenhus Fortress and Park, then continuing along the harbour front admire the UNESCO listed Bryggen, Hanseatic merchant building, dating back to the 14th century. In the heart of the city, you’ll pass by the colourful and lively Fish Market. You’ll then head to Nordnes Park, one of Bergen’s most beautiful parks and on to the monastery. From the tip of the Nordnes peninsula you’ll pass the national theatre, the blue stone St John’s church, and Lille Lungegårdsvann Lake. Then, you’ll ride through the city to Fjellveien. A brief photography stop will be made to admire the wonderful views over the centre of Bergen and the surrounding areas

    This excursion will operate by Segway and on Foot. Please note that the order of sights may vary. This tour carries a maximum weight restriction of 18 stone. Children under 16 and pregnant women may not participate. The tour is only suitable for those in good physical condition; it is not suitable for those with injuries or conditions, which may be affected by a bumpy ride. Flat, closed toe shoes are essential. The tour will operate in the rain, ponchos are available to borrow. Large parts of the tour goes on traffic free or lightly traffic roads and parks. Helmets and hi-visibility vests are provided and must be worn.

  • The Beauty of Hardangerfjord

    Enjoy a day of breathtaking scenery as you pass cascading waterfalls, scenic fjords, jagged mountains and quaint villages.

    Begin your day with a drive past many of Bergen’s highlights including the Bergenhus Fortress, Rosenkrantz Tower, fish market and the Hanseatic buildings of Bryggen.

    Heading inland, you’ll pass Lake Kaland and the village of Os, before reaching Hatvik for a ferry ride across the fjord to Venjaneset. There will be a stop to visit the tiny wooded structure of Holdhus Old Church.

    As you approach Mundheim, the beautiful Hardangerfjord will come into view, it is undoubtedly one of the prettiest Norwegian fjords. An hour-long scenic drive will take you along its shores offering panoramic views of orchards and villages framed by the surrounding snow-capped mountain peaks. On a clear day you will have views of the Folgefonna Glacier.

    There will be a stop at Steinsdalfossen Waterfall, whose falls arc away from the mountainside. If you wish you can walk behind the curtain of water without getting wet. Back onboard the coach a series of tunnels will take you up the Tokagjel Gorge, before descending to the Sørfjord for views of Osterøy Island.

    During the day enjoy a delicious Norwegian buffet luncheon in a local village hotel.


    This excursion will operate by coach and ferry. Photographs are not permitted inside Holdhus Church. The waterfall walk involves a steep gravelled road, however it is optional. There is no handrail behind the waterfall, therefore extreme care should be taken. Enclosed footwear with grip is highly recommended. This tour includes several tunnels of varying lengths. Please dress according to the weather.

    View the city of Bergen from a new perspective, on a high speed RIB adventure.

    Bergen RIB Ride

    The excitement begins the moment you meet your Captain, who will introduce you to your rigid inflatable boat (RIB), provide you with a safety briefing and kit you out with your special survival suit. Then it’s time to take your seat and let the activity commence.

    First a gentle cruise around the city and harbour will introduce you to the highlight sights of Bergen. From the water you can see the famous Hanseatic area of Bryggen and its colourful wooden-fronted houses that have been recognised by UNESCO. You can spot the 7 hills that surround the city and witness the bustling activities in the harbour.

    Moving away from the city and into the open fjords the pace will soon pick up. The scenery swiftly changes as the cityscape is replaced with views of tiny skerries and offshore islands, some of which are linked to the mainland by huge suspension bridges. Out on the open waters, you’re bound to experience an adrenaline rush, as your Captain revs the engine and takes you on a thrilling high speed journey.

    An exciting and memorable way to view the sights of Norway’s 2nd largest city, and its surrounds. Your adventure ends in the city centre, where you can explore Bergen further, at your own leisure.

    BEACH/WATER RELATED EXCURSIONS
    For any excursion involving water, guests are reminded to exercise particular care. Alcohol and eating a full meal should be avoided before swimming. If buoyancy aids are provided for an activity they must be worn at all times. You should bear in mind that the sea is unpredictable. Lifeguards are unlikely to be present and there may not be a flag system to indicate whether or not it is safe to go in the water. In addition, beach activities may not be supervised or accompanied and so you should take care to satisfy yourself as to the safety of the beach and/or the sea at the time of your excursion.     This excursion will operate by RIB. The RIB ride lasts approximately 45 minutes. Survival suits are provided and must be worn. Guests should wear warm clothing and must be good swimmers. Depending on where the ship is berthed, there may be a 15 minute walk to and from the RIB’s departure point.

  • Hiking Mount Fløien

    Admire the panorama of Bergen and its fjord from Mount Fløien followed by a hike through beautiful woodland terrain.

    Hiking Mount Fløien

    Take the funicular to the top of Mount Fløien, which at 1,000 feet offers panoramic views across Bergen and the surrounding area. The Fløien hills are a very popular recreation area with picturesque lakes and mountains, which is used by the population of Bergen all year round. Walk on one of the many gravel roads, through slightly hilly woodland and down to the little, idyllic lake called Skomakerdiket. Walking uphill you’ll join the main path, Blåmansveien, where the views get more impressive the higher you get.

    In clear weather the route heads up the Rundemansveg Road, emerging into an excellent panoramic view as you reach the highest point, Rundemanen, at 1,800 feet. There are several trails and your guide will select the most suitable, dependant on the weather conditions.

  • Bergen Views and Funicular

    Take a funicular up Mount Fløien for panoramic views over the city followed by a leisurely drive past the main sights of Bergen.

    Leaving the port your drive will take you past the medieval King Håkon's Hall and Rosenkrantz Tower. The route then continues along Bryggen, the hanseatic quarter of Bergen, with its old, picturesque wooden buildings to the funicular station of Fløibanen.

    The funicular will take you on a short journey to the top of Mount Fløien, one of the seven hills that surround Bergen and stands at a height of around 1,050 feet. There will be around 15 minutes at the summit to purchase souvenirs or to just sit and enjoy the bird’s eye view of Bergen and the fjord, before taking the funicular back to the bottom.

    Back on board your coach, you will head past the famous fish market and on towards the peninsula of Nordnes, with its typical 19th century, white-painted wooden houses and splendid views on both sides of the port.


    This excursion will operate by coach and funicular. The walk from the coach to the funicular is approximately 100 yards up a slight incline. Long queues may be experienced at the funicular station, due to the popularity of this attraction. There are approximately 12 steps to negotiate at the lower funicular station and 25 steps at the upper station. The views from Mount Fløien may be affected by adverse weather conditions. If the ship is berthed at Dokken or Jekteviken Pier, the route will include a tunnel.

    Escape the hustle and bustle of the city, and embrace traditional and rural Norway at Øvre-Eide Farm.

    Øvre-Eide Farm & Tea

    A short drive from the centre of Bergen takes you to Øvre-Eide Farm, located in the idyllic surroundings of Lake Jordal. This rural retreat is today still a working farm and dates back as far as the 1500s, when it was one of the largest farms in Åsane.

    Upon arrival, you’ll receive a warm welcome from the family, now in their fifth generation of running the farm. You’ll then discover the farm’s rich history, including how it transpired from the seat of a petty king, to being used as a prison to house Norway’s equivalent of Robin Hood, Gjest Baardsen who was held in the farm’s cellar in the early 18th century.

    During your visit, you’ll have the opportunity to meet the resident animals, as well as gain an insight into traditional farming methods.

    Complete your visit in the beautiful main building, where delicious refreshments of homemade Norwegian cakes, accompanied by tea and coffee will be served.

    Put your best foot forward as you embark on a guided walking tour of the charming city of Bergen. As your knowledgeable guide leads you through the city, you’ll pass some of the main sights, including the UNESCO listed Bryggen with its unique Hanseatic merchant buildings. You’ll also pass City Park, Grieg Concert Hall, Nygårdshøyden and Torgalmenningen Square, before reaching the famous Fish Market, one of the most visited outdoor markets in Norway. Unsurprisingly, it’s brimming with sumptuous seafood, fresh off the local boats, and also an abundance of fruit and vegetables.

    Complete your tour with a visit to the Magic Ice Bar. Dubbed ‘the hottest place to cool down’ and fashioned from several tonnes of ice, the Ice Bar is the work of world-renowned ice carvers and is a truly magical place to unwind. Enjoy a drink served in an ice glass, whilst taking in exhibits of famous Norwegian artists.

  • Bergen Walking Tour

    Combine an interesting walking tour with a funicular ride up Mount Fløien for a lovely bird’s eye view over Bergen and the fjord.

    View some of the beautiful buildings in Bergen as you stroll to Grieg Concert Hall, built in the shape of a grand piano and inaugurated in 1978. Enter the city park, where many of the city’s art museums are located and pass the small Lille Lungegaardsvannet Lake and the city’s Town Hall.

    Take a look at the fish market and the Byfjord, before reaching the famous Bryggen Hanseatic Quarters. Soak up the atmosphere in the narrow passages between the buildings. Continue past St Mary’s Church, the oldest building in Bergen still in use, and one of the outstanding Romanesque churches in the country.

    You’ll soon reach Bergen’s oldest street, Øvregaten Street, to board the funicular for a ride to the top of Mount Fløien. This is one of the most popular recreational areas with spectacular views at 1,050 feet above sea level. You’ll return to the base of Mount Fløien by funicular.

    At the end of the tour you can either return to the ship or opt to remain in town to explore further.

    See the main sights of Bergen followed by a piano recital of Grieg's music in the inspiring surroundings of his home.

    Sights & Sounds of Bergen

    See the old medieval city, including the 13th century King Håkon's Hall, the 16th-century Rosenkrantz Tower, and Bryggen, a major trading centre for the medieval Hanseatic League. Pass the open-air fish market at Torget and Grieg Hall, the city's concert hall. Enjoy the surrounding sights of green slopes and ragged mountains as you drive through suburbs, with well kept houses and gardens, to Troldhaugen.

    Troldhaugen, beautifully situated at the Nordås Lake, was home to the late Edvard Grieg. Grieg (1843-1907) was a composer, pianist and conductor with his first piano debut being at the age of 18. Norwegian folk music, nature and the delightful scenery of Norway inspired him to create the most beautiful pieces of music.

    A special piano recital in the ‘Troldsal’, a unique style concert hall with turf roof, will immerse you in the exquisite sounds of Grieg's music. After the recital, there will be a guided tour of Grieg’s house and gardens where you will see many of the original furnishings including a Steinway grand piano, which was an anniversary gift in 1892. Before departing Troldhaugen, there will be the opportunity to visit the information centre which sells books, CD’s and other Grieg memorabilia.

    Bergen is known as the city between seven mountains, and Mount Ulriken is the highest and most spectacular of these. At 2,109 feet above sea level, the view from the top offers a magnificent panorama of the city, coastal landscape, fjords and mountains.

    As you take a leisurely drive through Bergen to the cable car, your guide will point out the interesting landmarks such as the Grieghallen, fish market, Bryggen and the Nordes Peninsula.

    At the cable car station you’ll board your gondola for the seven minute ride to reach the top. As you ascend you will be able to see views of Norway’s second largest city stretching out below you. On arrival at the summit of Mount Ulriken, refreshments of coffee or tea and a slice of cake will be served in the stylish new restaurant, whilst you relax and enjoy the panoramic views.


    This excursion will operate by cable car and coach. There is a walk of approximately 200 yards over uneven terrain and 20 steps at the cable car station. Long queues may be experienced due to the popularity of this attraction. There is standing room only in the gondolas, and each one will accommodate up to 15 people. The views may be affected by certain weather conditions, however the tour will still operate except when the cable car closes due to strong winds. There are 15 steps to access the toilets in the restaurant. If the ship is berthed at Dokken or Jekteviken Pier, the journey will include a tunnel.
