    On Board Speakers

    Philip Gray
    Philip Gray - Artist

Internationally acclaimed ‘extreme artist’ Philip Gray, and a firm favourite of collectors on board, will be joining Queen Elizabeth for the second time this year. Extreme artist and adventurer Philip is one of the most distinctive contemporary artists at work today.

His passion for exploration and discovery has led him to paint in some of the most inhospitable locations in the world. From painting underwater surrounded by sharks to 21,000 feet up the Himalayas his creations showcase the breadth of nature, and the limits of human endurance. His exploits have garnered him a collector base across the world including Bill Clinton and George W Bush as well as Dolly Parton. Philip will be taking part in a couple of remarkable paintings demonstrations as well as unveiling a painting with a senior officer while he is on board.

    Gary McKechnie
Gary McKechnie - National Geographic Author

For more than three decades, Gary McKechnie has explored his homeland by bus, car, rail, and motorcycle. On his journeys, his soundtrack has been the music of Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, and Buddy Holly – three distinct American talents whose songs would cross the Atlantic and inspire the Beatles. As a student of history and fan of rock 'n’ roll, Gary’s dual passions found him delving into the circumstances that created each of these musical legends.

It’s a serious sideline for one of America’s leading travel writers, a two-time National Geographic author who spent two years on the road to research USA 101, a cultural and historic look at 101 of the nation's iconic events, festivals, and pastimes. He is also the author of Great American Motorcycle Tours, the nation’s best-selling motorcycle guidebook, travelling more than 30,000 miles across the USA to create 25 backroads tours to highlight charming towns, historic sites, intriguing attractions and wonderful restaurants. A former stand-up comedian and improv actor, McKechnie's easy humour and natural curiosity enhances intriguing, inspiring presentations that will introduce you to the music – and the musicians – that changed the world.

    Stuart Tipple, Defence Lawyer
    Stuart Tipple - Solicitor

Stuart Tipple has practiced as a solicitor primarily in New South Wales since 1978. He is best known for his successful defence of Dr Michael Chamberlain and Mrs Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton, whose baby daughter was killed by a dingo.

Between 1978 and 1980 Stuart worked with the NSW Public Solicitors office and assigned Court of Criminal Appeal and High Court indictable matters.

Stuart Tipple was retained by Dr Michael Chamberlain and Mrs Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton to appear on their behalf after the first inquest into the death of their daughter, Azaria Chamberlain, was quashed and a new inquest ordered.

He represented the Chamberlains at their trial and subsequent appeals. After the High Court Appeal was lost by a three two majority, he oversaw: a media campaign which set up the Chamberlain Innocence Committee comprising prominent Australians calling for a Royal Commission; engaged scientists to conduct further tests which eventually destroyed the Crown case; successfully applied for the establishment of a Royal Commission. Following the Royal Commission, the Chamberlains were pardoned, compensated and later acquitted.

    Astronomer Paul Fellows
    Paul Fellows - Astronomer

Paul Fellows is co-presenter of the public observing season at the University of Cambridge leading the live outdoor shows every week (or giving indoor presentations when the clouds get in the way). Either way these attract audiences of 200+ on a regular basis and are aimed to appeal to people of all levels from the complete beginner who wants to know where to start, yet hopefully adding something even for the more knowledgeable. There will be no equations, apart that is, from E=mc2.

Having built his first telescope aged 14 and experiencing the wow moment of seeing the rings of Saturn for the first time, Paul has been stargazing for some 40 years and has his own private observatory where he images the sky, taking pictures of galaxies, clusters, nebulae and planets. Many of his own images will appear in his talks.
