Giancarlo Impiglia
Giancarlo Impiglia - Artist & Art Historian

Giancarlo Impiglia is an artist and art historian whose name is renowned in the world of art. He studied at the Art Lyceum and the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. He also studied at the Italian Center of Cinematography of Rome, participating in several movies as cameraman and set designer.

Giancarlo's American art career was launched in 1974 with an important commission for the Great American Insurance Building: a 60 foot mural for the lobby of 99 John Street in New York City. This led to a succession of commissions in Manhattan and in many other American cities. In 1994 he was commissioned by Cunard to create three original large murals for the decor of the Lido on QE2. He also decorated the Lido with a series of 20 original Serigraphs.

In 2003 Giancarlo Impiglia was commissioned again by Cunard to create four original paintings for Queen Mary 2, on the theme of entertainment. The paintings now grace the walls on staircase B on decks 2 and 3, opposite the Royal Court Theatre. Mr. Impiglia also created the Portrait of Queen Victoria as a Young Woman, installed in the Queen’s Room of the new ocean liner Queen Victoria.

His paintings are featured in the permanent collection of The Museum of the City of New York, The Zimmerly Museum at Rutgers University, NJ, The Kentucky Derby Museum, The Sangre de Cristo Museum of Pueblo, Colorado, The Italian American Museum in New York, The Absolut Collection, Sweden, The Pfizer Collection, New York, the Cunard Art Collection, and Elton John's private collection, just to mention a few.
