Colin Hobbs
Colin Hobbs - Aviation

Colin Hobbs has spent virtually all of his career (over 35 years) in the civil aviation industry, principally running Airports and Airlines, and has a deep knowledge of the business both in front of and behind the scenes.

He started as a sponsored Business Studies graduate of H J HEINZ company, and joined BAA (British Airports Authority) at Heathrow Airport in 1971. In 1974 he moved to British Airways and held a variety of Airline Operations and Marketing posts in UK and overseas.

In 1981 he joined International Aeradio leading teams bidding for aviation contracts worldwide. He was appointed Head of Aviation Marketing and lived in Dubai for two years.

In 1987 he accepted an offer to rejoin BAA to launch Stansted as London’s new major airport and in 1991, following the Opening of the Airport by Her Majesty the Queen, Stansted Airport was the overall winner of the AOCI Communications Excellence award from 260 entries worldwide.

Following a secondment as Managing Director of the London Tourist Board, he was appointed Managing Director of Southampton Airport by BAA in 1996 and Chief Executive of the Oman Airports Management Company, a joint venture between BAA and the Government of the Sultanate of Oman in 2001 and lived in Oman for over 3 years.

He has spoken widely to business and social groups in the UK and overseas and has been Master of Ceremonies on several occasions for charity and entertainment events.

He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Transport and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and is a Justice of the Peace.

Derek Tedder
Derek Tedder - Broadcaster & Journalist

After twenty five years covering the top stories as a television and radio news correspondent at the BBC, ITV and Sky, in 2009 Derek Tedder moved to the Ministry of Defence and is now the Editor of the Army Production Team for the British Army.

After twenty five years covering the top stories as a television and radio news correspondent at the BBC, ITV and Sky, in 2009 Derek Tedder moved to the Ministry of Defence and is now the Editor of the Army Production Team for the British Army.

He heads up a team of specialist military news gathering professionals deployed to the world’s most dangerous and hostile environments.  He and his team embed with the troops to provide the UK’s broadcast media with news footage, audio content and photographic images which showcase the work of the British Army on operations including in Afghanistan.  They gather material which the networks are not able to gain for themselves for reasons of operational necessity or national security.

Throughout his career within the broadcast news business, Derek spent several years as a news anchor.  In addition to his operational duties, he also trains and mentors the Army’s General staff on how to best handle challenging and combative interviews during television and radio appearances.

Dr Andrew Adam
Dr Andrew Adam - Scientist & Medical Historian

For many years Dr Adam lectured in pathology and demonstrated anatomy to doctors, nurses and paramedics. He also lectured to police officers and service personnel and presented scientific papers at national and international meetings. He was a visiting assistant professor and lecturer at the United Services University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.

Andrew read history at Oxford before embarking on journalism, then switched to reading medicine at The Middlesex Hospital. He paid his way through medical school by an unholy mixture of journalism, male modelling and cabaret.

He spent 16 years as a medical officer in the RAF where he qualified as a pathologist and gained expertise in fatal aircraft crash investigations. He also served with the U.S. Air Force in Washington D.C.

After the RAF, he became a consultant pathologist in Somerset. Now in retirement, he writes, lectures, does historical research and works as a voluntary police chaplain.
