    Enjoy the highlights of this beautiful island by coach, beginning with photograph stops at Mulinu’u the sacred burial grounds of Samoan royalty, the Independence Monuments, Parliament House and other historic monuments.

    Another stop will be made at the local food and handicraft market, where an abundance of fresh local produce is sold. A visit to the market not only allows you to see the many varieties of fruits and vegetables available, but also invites you to browse for handicrafts and souvenirs.

    Afterwards, you will have time at the newly rebuilt Mulivai Cathedral which features exquisite architecture of Samoan and European influenced designs, and beautiful stained glass windows.

    Your final stop will be at Robert Louis Stevenson’s former home, which is now a museum. The novelist spent the last four years of his life here and you will hear interesting historical facts and stories about the house and its residents.

    Explore the well-groomed grounds of Vailima, the grounds of the Museum, and enjoy a light refreshment of juice and local fruits on the patio.


    This excursion will operate by coach or minivan. The visit to the museum and college will be on foot and involves uneven ground and steps. It is necessary to remove your shoes whilst visiting the museum. Flash photography is not permitted. On Sunday’s Church attendance takes priority in Samoa, therefore the local food and handicraft market will be quieter than usual.

  • Essence of Upolu

    Capture the essence of Upolu with its magnificent mountain scenery, Sopo’aga Falls, beautiful beaches and Mini Botanical Gardens.

    Essence of Upolu

    Start your day with a beautiful scenic drive along the north-eastern coast of Upolu stopping at Plum Pudding Rock and a slow drive through Le Mafa Pass (1,700 feet above sea level). The Pass has breathtaking views of the northern shorelines and the scenic drive is through lush green forests, waterfalls, plantations and traditional Samoan villages.

    Sopo’aga Mini Botanical Gardens and Waterfalls, our next stop has a variety of indigenous plants and your guide will tell you about their medicinal qualities. You will also be shown a coconut demonstration, during which you’ll learn about the different uses of the coconut in the daily life of Samoan’s.

    A BBQ luncheon is served at the Tafatafa Beach, where you’ll have approximately 1½ hours to relax and enjoy the sea and sunshine. The return trip to Apia is made via the south-western part of the island, stopping at Papapapaiuta Falls which drop into an old volcanic crater. The scenic return trip is via rainforests, plantations and mountains.

    As you descend towards the township to the wharf, fantastic coastal views of the Apia Township can be seen.

    Cunard will arrange for the excursions to be performed by the relevant excursion provider. Cunard does not provide or supply the excursion services.     This excursion will operate by coach and on foot and involves approximately 15 minutes of walking.The ground at the Falls is rather uneven. Guests are reminded to wear swimwear, take a towel and sunscreen. You will have approximately 1½ hours at Tafatafa Beach. There may be independent suppliers on the beach that offer watersports. These are provided by parties unconnected to Cunard.

    Take a glimpse into the art and cultural scene of Samoa, and admire the beauty of the tropical gardens whilst enjoying an exquisite high tea.

    What better way to spend a few hours than with a drive through the outskirts of the Apia Township to ‘Vanya Taule'alo's’Art Gallery, which features an excellent array of artwork of leading Samoan and Pacific artists and artisans. You’ll be able to see a range of genres (traditional and contemporary) and media (tapa, siapo, wood, stone, shark and whale bone). The artwork, jewellery and craft displayed are mostly unique and one-off pieces.

    ‘Plantation House’ is one of Samoa's unique boutiques, and houses original hand-painted apparel and giftware by local and Pacific designer, Marita Wendt. Her stunning contemporary designs in vibrant hand blocked textiles; jewellery, homewares and lots of other gift ideas are available for purchase, for that perfect souvenir.

    Tea is served at Plantation House in exquisite bone china, together with freshly-baked traditional delights, in a Samoan "fale"(thatched hut) and gardens. This is the perfect way to end your tour before returning to the ship.

  • Coastal Villages & Tropical Gardens

    This panoramic tour will take you on a colourful journey along the north-eastern coast of Upolu.

    Coastal Villages & Tropical Gardens

    During your scenic drive, you will pass through traditional villages, nestled along the coastline, which have changed little over the decades.

    A stop will be made at ‘Plum Pudding Rock’ for photos. Take in the sight of this wonderful cluster of volcanic rocks, which has been aptly named by the locals.

    Your return trip is made via the same coastal road, taking you through Falefa Village and past the Falefa Falls.

    Round off your tour at Ginas Tropical Garden, where there is an abundance of tropical plants, flowers and fruit trees and staples. You’ll be shown a coconut demonstration as well the traditional preparation of a local Samoan dish. A light refreshment of tropical fruits and bottled water will be served before your journey back to the ship.

    A scenic drive along the North West coastal road takes you to the Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Resort. Located on the Western coast of the Island of Upolu, the resort offers everything for a relaxing day – Spa Tennis pool private beach water sports restaurants and bars.

    Sit back and soak up the sun on the private white sandy beach, take a dip in the sea or relax by the pool.

    A delicious traditional buffet style luncheon will be served, during which you’ll be entertained with a traditional Samoan Fiafia Cultural show, complete with a pulsating fire knife dance.

Please refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages prior to swimming. There may be independent suppliers on the beach that offer water sports, these are provided by parties unconnected to Cunard.     Samoan Culture and Aggie Grey's Homestead

    A brief transfer takes you to the Samoa Tourism Authority Village, where upon arrival you’ll be greeted with a traditional welcome in the form of an Ava Ceremony. The ceremony is one of the most important customs of the Samoa Islands and involves a solemn ritual where the traditional drink, Ava is shared to mark an important occasion.

    During your visit, you’ll see firsthand how proud the Samoans are of their strong Fa’a Samoa, meaning ‘the Samoan way.’ Local men will show you how Samoan food is prepared and cooked in a ground oven, the ‘umu,’ as well as demonstrating mat and basket weaving and other handicrafts. You’ll also have the opportunity to purchase their homemade wares. A highlight of your visit will be displays of traditional dances, such as the graceful Samoan Siva, the lively mosquito dance and the pulsating fire knife dance.

    After bidding a fond farewell, your tour continues with a scenic drive towards the Mulin’u Peninsula, during which photograph stops will be made at Parliament House and the Tombs of our Paramount Chiefs.

    Complete your tour with a visit to Afiamalu Organic Plantation. Take a walk through the plantation and discover the various growth stages of the organic fruit and vegetables. Afterwards, refreshments of juice and local fruits will be served, before your scenic drive back to the ship.

    Leaving your ship behind, you’ll take a scenic ride along the ‘Cross Island’ road, through traditional villages, mountains and rainforest, which will lead you to a day of relaxation.

    During your drive, you’ll stop briefly at the Papapapaitai Falls which flows into an old volcanic crater, now surrounded by lush vegetation.

    The Sinalei Resort, is nestled in lush tropical gardens and overlooks the Maninoa Lagoon. Enjoy time at leisure, using the resorts facilities.

    Indulge in a delicious Fia Fia lunch buffet which offers organically grown vegetables from the Poutasi Village, and food cooked from the "umu" a Samoan ground oven.

    The cultural entertainment features the graceful Samoa Siva by the women. Slow movements with their feet and hands expresses the meaning of the song (love, joy or your day to day way of life). The men perform fast-paced dances like the "Mosquito Slap" dance and the pulsating ‘Fire Knife’ dance that Samoans are renowned for. Afterwards, you’ll rejoin your coach for the journey back to the ship.
