  • Boquilla Village Mangrove Eco Tour

    Explore a mangrove ecosystem in a traditional canoe, then spend some time in the Old City on a short guided walk.

    Boquilla Village Mangrove Eco Tour

    Board you coach for a scenic drive along the coastline to the town of La Boquilla, the mangrove area located on the eastern side of Cartagena.

    Here, you’ll board a canoe and relax as the captain glides you through the mangrove tunnels and across a shallow lake. This area is rich in wildlife, so look out for the colourful mangrove crabs and birds, including Ibis, herons, pelicans and albatross.

    After your mangrove tour, you’ll be treated to a traditional folklore performance before returning to the old city. Your next stop is Bóvedas, once dungeons, now home to arts and crafts stalls. Begin your tour through the colonial city with your guide. You’ll marvel at the Spanish Colonial buildings and age-old fortifications around every corner. Your tour concludes with a walk back to the coach and drive back to the pier.

  • Scenes of Cartagena

    Capture the best of Cartagena and discover a fascinating collection of buildings and fortifications dating from the early 1600's.

    Scenes of Cartagena

    Enjoy a scenic drive to the Fort of San Felipe de Barajas Fortress, which is an architectural and engineering achievement, and was built to protect Cartagena from pirates, took 121 years to build and was completed in 1657. A photo stop will be made for you to capture exterior of the fortress.

    Visit Las Bóvedas - the ‘Dungeons’ - originally built to store provisions for the troops and is now an artisan centre in the heart of ‘Old Cartagena’. Another highlight of Cartagena is the Church of San Pedro Claver. Pedro Claver did all he could to alleviate the suffering of the poor and his body lies on a high altar in a glass coffin. Continue your tour with a visit to the Navy Museum with a folkloric performance.

    To round off your tour, a free time shopping stop will be made at Old City, before returning to the ship.

    If you’re a keen bird enthusiast, or someone who simply enjoys exploring the natural environment, this tour is sure to delight.

    Colombia is a paradise for birds and a nature lover’s dream. In fact, no other country in the world has a higher diversity of birds than Colombia. A staggering 1,900 species of our feathered friends call this lush, green land home.

    Your tour begins with a comfortable, air conditioned, scenic bus ride to nation’s newest tourism area, the pristine island of Baru, Cartagena. After just over an hour, you’ll arrive at Colombia’s National Aviary – one of the finest and most respected in the world, for its sheer diversity of species.

    The Aviary is divided into habitat sections - tropical, coastline and mangroves, desert and Andean mountains. You’ll be able to photograph a breathtaking array of birds, including Macaws, Harpy Eagles, Tangaras, cormorants, pelicans, herons, storks, owls and even the mighty Andean Condor. You’ll be surrounded by abundant woodland, waterfalls and swaying palm trees.

    Later, you’ll have some free time to browse for souvenirs and sip some refreshing local beverages or delicious Colombian coffee, followed by a photo-stop at San Felipe Fort (an impressive hilltop fort built by the Spanish in the 1600s).

    After some sightseeing in the old city of Cartagena, you’ll return to your ship.

  • Historical Getsemaní Neighbourhood

    See a different side to Cartagena and visit the artistic Getsemaní district which embodies the greatest cultural heritage of the city.

    Historical Getsemaní Neighbourhood

    Depart from the port of Cartagena for the short drive to the famous Getsemaní district. From the colonial architecture and history, to the brightness of its streets and the colourful personality of its people, this populous sector of the city is a magical place that every visitor will appreciate. Getsemani is surrounded by walls and narrow streets, colourful houses with large families, and murals where local artists let their imagination fly away.

    After your guided walk through the narrow streets of Getsemaní, you’ll arrive at a point to observe the Convent La Popa located at the highest point of Cartagena, San Felipe Fort and San Sebastian del Pastelillo Port, where the tour guide will give all the historical information on these three highly relevant city monuments, alongside you can taste of a local drink to cool down.

    Your tour will bring you to the barracks of Bóvedas, former jail cells now converted to colorful handicraft stores and galleries. This construction consists of 47 arches and 23 vaults, considered the last work of the period of the Colony. You will have some free time to browse and shop.

    Your tour continues as you follow the wall and walk through the main streets and squares of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    A leisurely cruise, twinned with a walk around the old city, presents Cartagena famous city sights from a different angle.

    Cartagena by land and Sea

    Your tour begins with a short ride to the dock where your harbour boat awaits. You'll enjoy a scenic cruise through the Inner Bay for nearly an hour, as your guide points out fortifications best seen from the water. At the opening of the 17th century the Spanish Crown hired prominent European military engineers to carry out the construction of its defenses. This massive undertaking took over 200 years to complete and resulted in 7 miles of walls that surround the city, the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas (San Felipe Fortress), has fortifications on every point.

    At the end of the harbour cruise you will dock next to the Old City and walk within the city walls to Plaza Bolivar and Plaza San Pedro. Free time will be given for shopping for souvenirs. Afterwards, you will continue to Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas for a contrasting view of Cartagena from the land side, and a guided tour of this formidable castle. Upon arriving at the fortress, you'll quickly see why Cartagena was the impregnable city of the Spanish Main. This 17th-century fortress is the largest of its kind in the New World and is an outstanding example of Spanish military engineering.

    Your tour concludes with a walk back to your transportation, and a relaxing drive back to the pier.

    On this excursion you’ll fill your cup with the bold history of Cartagena and the rich goodness of pure Colombian Coffee. Your tour begins with a short bus transfer to Cartagena’s fascinating Old City, where you’ll visit a beautiful Colonial House. Here, you’ll have an introduction to Colombian Coffee, an overview of the coffee process, raw materials, quality assessments, smelling and tasting exercises, finishing with guided cupping of 3 different coffees through alternative coffee rituals.

    Afterwards, you’ll have some time to walk around Cartagena’s Old City, with an abundance of photo opportunities.   • Cartagena & Inquisition Palace

    Enjoy the sights of Cartagena combined with a visit to the historic Inquisition Palace.

    Setting off from the port, your drive will take you to Las Bóvedas - the ‘Dungeons’ - originally built to store provisions for the troops and now an artisan centre in the heart of ‘Old Cartagena’. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to browse the local handicraft stalls.

    Afterwards, you will walk through the Plaza de Bolivar to view the statue of Simon Bolivar and enjoy a visit to the Inquisition Palace. This old modest palace was established in Cartagena in 1610 to punish any crimes against the Catholic faith. Here, you will see a sample jail and torture chamber and gain an insight into the darker side of punishment.

    Next, you’ll have some free time into the old town to explore independently or browse for souvenirs.

    Enjoy a Panoramic View of the new city on your return to the ship.

  • Cartagena Fun Bus

    Hop aboard your colourful Chiva bus and experience the UNESCO World Heritage site of Cartagena.

    Cartagena Fun Bus

    Your party begins when you step aboard your Chiva, a hand-painted, old wooden artisan bus. These buses are used in rural areas for public transport, they are colourfully painted with local arabesques and figures.

    Enjoy non-stop ‘papayera’ or ‘vallenato’ (local music), complimentary drinks and snacks and learn about the interesting history and traditions of Cartagena. Laugh, clap, sing and listen to jokes, as your Chiva takes you around the charming streets of Cartagena.

    You’ll make a photo stop at the San Felipe Fortress, Manga, Pie de la Popa, El Centro, Boca Grande, Laguito, Castillo Grande, and the Old City (Bovedas).

    Your Chiva will stop at the historic Santa Catalina’s Bastion. Here, you can stretch your legs or dance to the beat of the music.

    You’ll have some time for souvenir and handicraft shopping at Las Bovedas Artisan Centre.


    This excursion operates by coach and on foot. The minimum age to participate on this tour is 18 years. There is very little walking involved on this tour, however passengers must be able to negotiate the three steps onto and off the Chiva bus. Local liquor is included. The Chiva is an open-sided bus, without windows and wooden benches for seating.

    Discover the history and charm of Cartagena's delightful old walled city, combined with a glimpse of its surroundings.

    Historic Walking & Panorama

    A short drive will take you to Santiago’s Bastion, where your walking tour will commence. Admire the charming colonial architecture of the area before continuing to the San Pedro Claver´s Plaza. Discover the history of Pedro Claver, known as 'the Slave of Slaves', who did all he could to alleviate the suffering of the poor. Your guide will then lead you towards Custom Plaza, the city’s commercial centre during colonial times.

    Continuing to Plaza de la Proclamación, you will see the Cathedral and the Governor’s building, which was, in colonial days, the headquarters of the Spanish government. Walk through the Plaza de Bolivar to view the statue of Simon Bolivar and the Inquisition Palace (exterior view only).

    Your walking tour will finish back at Santiago’s Bastion and continue by coach to Las Bóvedas. Enjoy a short shopping stop and a brief sightseeing drive through Bocagrande. A photograph stop will be also be made at San Felipe de Barajas Fortress for a panoramic view over Cartagena.

    Capture the sights of Cartagena and enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride through the old walled city.

    Embark on a short drive to the military fort of San Felipe Fortress to enjoy a panoramic photograph stop. Afterwards, you’ll continue to the old town, las Bovedas (Dungeons) where you’ll join your horse and carriage.

    As you trundle through the narrow cobbled streets of the old walled city, look out for the colonial houses, the Heredia Theatre, the City Hall and the Inquisition Palace at Bolivar Square. You can also admire the charming balconies, old squares and Spanish style buildings.

    Following your carriage ride, you will rejoin your coach to enjoy a panoramic drive of modern Cartagena, before returning to the ship.

Flat, non slip shoes are advised. The carriage ride is around 40 minutes to one hour, however this may vary depending on local conditions on the day.

    Discover the resort island of Isleta, one of 27 islands known as the Rosario Islands that are nestled off the bay of Cartagena.

    Embark on a speed boat ride along the verdant coastline of Colombia towards Isleta Island Resort. As you skim though the crystal clear waters, you’ll be surrounded by the natural beauty of an area designated as a national park.

    Upon arrival, you’ll have around 4 hours to enjoy the resort. Perhaps take a stroll along the sandy beach, relax on a complimentary sunbed, or enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool or beach area. During your stay a delicious local style buffet lunch will be available and soft drink refreshments.

    Afterwards, you’ll rejoin your boat to enjoy a short sightseeing panorama of the Rosario Islands before returning to Cartagena.

    BEACH/WATER RELATED EXCURSIONS
    For any excursion involving water, guests are reminded to exercise particular care. Alcohol and eating a full meal should be avoided before swimming. If buoyancy aids are provided for an activity they must be worn at all times. You should bear in mind that the sea is unpredictable. Lifeguards are unlikely to be present and there may not be a flag system to indicate whether or not it is safe to go in the water. In addition, beach activities may not be supervised or accompanied and so you should take care to satisfy yourself as to the safety of the beach and/or the sea at the time of your excursion. Please exercise caution when entering the sea as the seabed and aquatic environment is capable of springing surprises and we have not inspected the beach or seabed for its safety. Children must be supervised by you at all times near water. All activities on the beach, water and in the sea are undertaken at your own risk. You’ll need to take swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and flat shoes that can be worn in the water.

    This excursion will operate by boat and on foot. This tour involves limited walking, however a degree of agility is required when embarking and disembarking the boat. Please remember swimwear, sunscreen and a towel. In certain sea conditions, the speed boat ride may be bumpy. Snorkel equipment is available on request at an additional charge. Toilet and changing facilities are available. Please refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages prior to swimming activities. There may be independent suppliers on the beach that offer watersports. These are provided by parties unconnected to Cunard. The beach is not exclusive to Cunard.
