  • THE RUINS OF TEHUACALCO

    THE RUINS OF TEHUACALCO

Discover the recently discovered Tehuacalco Ruins, identified as the first excavated site of the Yope civilisation.

Embark on a scenic drive through the Mexican countryside to the state of Guerrero and the outskirts of the state capital city, Chilpancingo. Here lay the Tehuacalco Ruins, located between four prominent hills with an impressive backdrop. The four cardinal points were said to be of great importance to the lives of the Yope.

Upon arrival, enjoy a fascinating guided walking tour of the Ruins. The pre-Columbus archaeological zone is said to have peaked between 650 and 1100 AD. The monumental area is around 12 acres and supports 15 different structures. Amongst them you can recognise the great pyramidal base with remains of what appears to be a seven metre staircase. During your tour you will also see moon marks and the sun observer, and gain an insight into the Yope Civilisation.

During your tour a bottle of water will be provided.

Note: This tour involves around two hours of walking over uneven surfaces, including steps. Flat, comfortable walking shoes are essential. Please remember sun protection and insect repellant is advisable. For environmental and safety reasons, please do not climb on the ruins. Extra care is needed, as areas surrounding the Ruins have steep drops with no barriers. There is a charge of four to six US Dollars for the use of video cameras at the site, payable locally on the day. Flash photography is not permitted.

  • CITY DRIVE & CLIFF DIVERS

    CITY DRIVE & CLIFF DIVERS

An opportunity to see the famous cliff divers and enjoy a panoramic drive of Acapulco.

No visit to Acapulco would be complete without seeing the famous death defying cliff divers at La Quebrada. See the select few men who are willing to risk their lives as they plummet past the jagged rocks into the surging ocean below. Just before they take the long fall, they kneel at a little shrine to say a prayer. Hold your breath and watch in wonder as they spring out in a perfect flying arch, piercing the water at exactly the right moment. After the diving display a refreshment will be offered.

During your tour you will also enjoy a panoramic drive taking in Acapulco’s main boulevard lined with hotels, bars and restaurants. You will head as far as Diamond Acapulco, where new properties are rising and past the Black Lagoon, where Tarzan (Johnny Weissmuller) was filmed back in the 1950’s.

A short photograph stop will also be made at the stunning Acapulco Bay Vantage Point. Snap the shot that should feature in everyone’s photo album - the spectacular blue-ringed bay, fringed with luxury hotels and beaches.

Note: After the divers’ show it is usual practice for them to congregate at the exit for tips. Guests enter La Quebrada at the coach drop off point, via the street entrance to the upper terrace. There are approximately 70 steps to be negotiated to reach the other viewing areas of the restaurant. Those who cannot manage the steps to the other viewing areas can remain at the upper terrace, however space may be limited. Flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The order of highlights may vary. Acapulco’s main boulevard can be very busy and delays due to traffic may occur.

  • COLONIAL ACAPULCO

    COLONIAL ACAPULCO

Discover the many faces of Acapulco from the early days of the pirates to its heyday in the 1950's.

Gaze in wonder as the world famous high cliff divers perform their daring leaps, plunging nearly 130 feet past jagged rocks into a small, surf-filled crevice. Enjoy some refreshments as you witness this spectacular event.

Cary Grant and Gregory Peck, to name but a few, graced Acapulco’s shores and filled the society pages and gossip columns. The Caleta was an area where the stars spent their holidays earning the title ‘refuge of the Hollywood gang’. Although the heyday is past, you can still see the traditional hotels and houses of yester-year. A stop will be made at Los Flamingos Hotel for refreshments.

Taking you back to the days of pirates, your tour continues to the Fort of San Diego, which was built to stave off attacks by British pirates. The Historical Museum is located inside the Fort and contains interesting artefacts tracing Acapulco’s beginnings.

You will also pass the Convention Centre and Gardens and enjoy a visit to the Chapel of Peace, located in a picturesque position overlooking the bay. A view not to be missed.

Note: After the divers’ show it is usual practice for them to congregate at the exit for tips (optional). There are around 70 steps at La Quebrada, where the diving takes place, although there is a lower terrace entrance. There are also some steps to negotiate at the Chapel. Flat, comfortable shoes are recommended. This tour may operate with a reverse itinerary. Delays due to traffic may occur.

  • HIGHLIGHTS & BABY TURTLE RELEASE

    HIGHLIGHTS & BABY TURTLE RELEASE

A unique opportunity to release baby turtles into the ocean combined with a panoramic tour of Acapulco.

Travel along the Main Avenue Costera, passing by the many hotels, restaurants, and shopping districts en route to the Scenic Highway. There will be a short stop for pictures at a panoramic vantage point.

Next, you will be taken along the Costera Palmas and pass by the Acapulco Princess Hotel which resembles an Aztec pyramid and the Mayan Palace Hotel, probably one of the most beautiful properties in Acapulco.

At the peaceful Elcano Diamante beach club, baby turtles are awaiting to be released. Marine turtles are an endangered species. It has been estimated that for every 1,000 born, only one will reach the adult stage. A true once in a lifetime experience. Afterwards, enjoy some some free time, with the opportunity to take a refreshing swim in the Beach Club pool, before the return drive to the port.
