    Discover the island's medieval capital, Rhodes Town, by trolley train.

    Enjoy a ride on a trolley train up to the Acropolis of Rhodes, for views of the old and new towns of Rhodes. View the imposing walls of the old town, Mandraki Harbour, where legend says the Colossus of Rhodes stood.

    A brief stop will be made at the Ancient Acropolis of Rhodes Town, now called Monte Smith, named after a British Admiral who used the site to oversee the harbour entrance. View the unforgettable sight of the Old Town of Rhodes and the protective walls that still surround it, whilst seated on the train.

    Your walking tour of the old walled town of Rhodes takes you along stone-paved lanes past medieval structures, each recalling the Knights of St John and their Turkish conquerors. Learn about the town's past as you walk along the Knights' Road, one of the oldest and most magnificent in the town.

    There will be time for shopping in the old town for souvenirs, jewellery and Greek art.

    Note: The old town of Rhodes will be explored on foot for approximately one hour, along cobbled streets. The visit to the Acropolis is in Rhodes Town, not Lindos. The order of highlights may be reversed. Please note that the tour will end at Rhodes Old Town to offer the option for further exploration or shopping before the short walk to return to the ship. Please note that due to street traffic noise the public address system may be difficult to hear, the guide will conduct the explanations of the sites at the first available stop and not whilst the train is in motion.

    Your guided walking tour of old Rhodes town takes you along stone-paved lanes and past medieval structures, each recalling the Knights of St John and their Turkish conquerors. Enjoy some free time to browse the many quaint souvenir shops in Rhodes old town.

    Built in the early 14th century, the Palace of the Grand Masters was destroyed in 1856 and rebuilt in 1939. A visit to this dramatic structure will show you ancient mosaics from Kos and a monumental marble staircase.

    The Acropolis of Lindos is the ‘jewel in the crown’ of Rhodes. A walk up to the summit of the Acropolis takes you back in time to past civilisations. Marvel at the 4th century BC Doric Temple of Athena Lindia, a double winged portico, Byzantine church, and the remains of the Knights’ fortifications.

    Luncheon, including wine and coffee, will be provided in one of the island’s leading venues.

    Visit ‘Rodos Gold’, a unique jewellery factory and museum, where you will be able to watch craftsmen making jewellery before your very eyes. The museum has a display of replica museum pieces from Greek history in solid gold.

    Note: Rhodes old town will be explored on foot along many cobble-stoned streets. Steep narrow, cobble-stoned pathways and 365 steps lead to the top of the Acropolis. The highlights of this tour may operate in reverse order.

    LINDOS & RHODES TOWN

    Visit two ‘jewels’ of Rhodes - the pretty, whitewashed town of Lindos and Rhodes’ medieval old town.

    Step back in time with a walk through Lindos village and up to the summit of the Acropolis to see the magnificent remains of past civilisations. Marvel at the 4th century BC Doric Temple of Athena Lindia, a double-winged portico, a Byzantine church and the fortifications of the Knights of St John, including the remains of the Governor’s quarters. The view is truly panoramic and at the very foot of the Acropolis is St Paul’s Bay, where the Apostle is said to have sought shelter during a storm.

    Upon returning from Lindos, a short stop will be made at Archangelos, the island’s largest village in the Valley of Aithona. The village is famous for its long tradition in the art of ceramics. A brief stop will be made at the folk art factory where local artists, using age-old methods, make ceramic wares. There will be an opportunity to purchase the unique items on sale.

    Return to the old town of Rhodes with its maze of cobble-stoned streets built inside the medieval city walls. Take some free time to browse in the many quaint shops, brimming with Greek souvenirs.

    Note: There are approximately 365 steps and narrow cobble-stoned pathways leading to the top of the Acropolis in Lindos. The old town of Rhodes will be explored on foot. Comfortable, non-slip shoes are recommended.

    Enjoy an easy walking tour of the historic sights of Rhodes at your own pace, so you are free to have a meal, take a break for refreshments, or spend time shopping whenever you want. Your stereo iPod® allows you to listen to the facts and descriptions of this unique city.

    Simply consult the customised map to find each location and then go to the indicated number on the player for a detailed description of the site and its history. Follow the suggested route or set out on your own adventure, moving about the city with ease thanks to your map and audio directions. With more than 20 of the most important points of interest programmed into the player, your exploration of Rhodes is limited only by your personal wishes.

    Discover the liveliness of the shopping along Socrates Street, to one of the world’s best preserved medieval streets, the Street of the Knights as well as the site where the Colossus of Rhodes once stood.

    Note: Please present photographic ID when picking up your iPod®. The stated three hour duration is simply a guide as the iPod® is yours for the day, so spend as much time as you would like, or as little, at each spot.   • PANORAMIC RHODES

    PANORAMIC RHODES

    An easy option to view the Acropolis at Lindos, this panoramic drive will show you the highlights of this beautiful island.

    Your scenic drive will take you via the medieval walls that encircle Rhodes old town passing by the yachts and pleasure crafts moored in Mandraki Harbour. You will reach the site believed to have been one of the Seven Wonders of the World – the Colossus of Rhodes.

    From a vantage point, view one of the centres of the ancient Greek civilisation, Lindos. Take in the view of St Paul’s Bay, where the Apostle is said to have sought shelter during a storm. Below you will be able to see the ‘sugar-cube’ houses and narrow streets of this delightful village.

    On your return from Lindos, a stop will be made at ‘Rodos Gold’ – a unique factory and museum where you will be able to watch the craftsmen making pieces of jewellery. The museum has a display of replica museum pieces from Greek history in solid gold.

    A photograph stop will be made at the ancient Acropolis of Rhodes Town, now called Monte Smith, where you can view Rhodes Town lying below in all its splendour.

    At the end of the tour, an optional drop-off will be made at one of the entrances to the old town of Rhodes. Should you wish to visit the old town independently, you will be responsible for your own return to the ship.

    Note: This is a panoramic tour and does not include a visit to Lindos village itself or the Acropolis at Lindos, it is viewed from a distance. There are five steps at the jewellery factory.
