  • Sestri Levante and Pesto Tasting

    An opportunity to discover Sestri Levante, a charming town on the Italian Riviera and taste some famous Italian pasta and Pesto sauce.

    Setting off from the pier, you’ll take a drive along the highway and on to Sestri Levante. Facing two beautiful bays, this idyllic town has been a well known beauty spot for hundreds of years and was praised by the early Renaissance poets. Although the town has grown considerably since these early times, it has lost none of its original charm.

    Upon arrival, your guide will offer a brief introduction of the town, before you head off for independent exploration. You will have around one hour to enjoy Sestri Levante at your own pace. Stroll the delightful streets and browse the shops, or simply relax in one of the many local cafés. You may wish to enjoy the sparkling Fable Bay or take a walk to Silent Bay, a tiny protected inlet.

    Afterwards, you’ll meet with your guide at the designated meeting point and time and drive along the beautiful Paradise Coast, to a local restaurant where you’ll have the opportunity to taste Ligurian flavours such as handmade pasta and Pesto sauce.


    This excursion operates by coach and on foot. The level of walking undertaken on this tour is at passengers’ discretion. Guests must be able to negotiate steps on to and off the coach. There may be a short walk from the coach parking area to the main town. Sestri Levante consists of some cobblestone streets. Flat, comfortable shoes are advised. Euros and credit or debit cards are accepted for purchases. Some shops may be closed on Sundays.

  • Paradise Gulf and Portofino

    Discover the delights of the Ligurian Coast with its sparkling waters, quaint fishing villages and hidden bays.

    Paradise Gulf and Portofino

    As you cruise along the Ligurian Coast, marvel at the picturesque scenery of rugged cliffs and secluded coves. Pause for photos at the bay in front of the village of San Fruttuoso. The imposing Benedictine Monastery and Doria Tower are said to date back to the 13th century.

    Rounding the huge rocky spur known as Punta Chiappa, you’ll reach Camogli. This small fishing village is famed for its pastel-coloured houses, some of which are adorned with seashells. Stroll through the small historical centre and visit the wonderful baroque-style, Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta.

    Enjoy some free time in Camogli to soak up the atmosphere and perhaps try some of the local ice-cream.

    You’ll re board your boat and sail towards Portofino, an exclusive resort favoured by the international jet set. You’ll be offered local white wine and focaccia bread as you cruise along the coastline taking in the scenery. Enjoy some free time in Portofino to take a stroll or pick up a souvenir of your visit.

Please be advised that there will be approximately one hour of optional walking on slightly inclined surfaces; there are also steps to negotiate at the Basilica.     From Rapallo, you’ll board your coach and drive along the highway to Tagliolo Monferrato. You’ll have an opportunity to appreciate the picturesque surroundings of the Ovada area in the Alto Monferrato, a region, which is very well-known for its production of Dolcetto and Barbera wines.

    After being under the Duchy of Milan and the Republic of Genoa in 1498 Tagliolo Castle became a possession of Pinelli Gentile Marquis. Since then the family have carried out the wine production with a great passion ensuring the high quality of their wines.

    The Castle of Tagliolo is exceptional not only for its fine wines but it also in their production. Tagliolo owns its vineyards and all the stages of the wine-making process, from the pressing of the grapes, bottling of the wine and ageing in the centuries-old cellars takes place within the estate.

    You’ll visit this impressive Castle and experience the welcoming atmosphere of this family-run business. You’ll have a guided tour of the Castle courtyard, medieval tower, grand hall and ancient cellars, although the highlight of your visit will no doubt be the wine tasting. You’ll sample a variety of wines including the Dolcetto d’Ovada and Cortese dell’Alto Monferrato.

There will be a number of steps to negotiate within the Castle and surfaces my be uneven. The transfer time is approximately 1½ hours each way via motorways and through tunnels.

  • Portofino and Santa Margherita On Your Own

    Visit the charming seaside resort of Santa Margherita and the famous town of Portofino.

    Portofino and Santa Margherita On Your Own

    Departing from the pier, you’ll take a short journey along the Autostrada towards Santa Margherita. In the first 10 years of this century this stretch of coastline has welcomed royal families, politicians, famous actors and actresses, for their dream holiday. Santa Margherita was the seat for international political meetings, among which, in 1951 the preliminary conference of the European Coal and Steel Community was held, which prepared the way to the Common Market.

    You’ll have approximately 1hour for independent exploration. Wander through the town, browse the shops or sample some Italian cuisine at one of the nearby restaurants. Have your camera at the ready to capture the most important monument of the town, the Basilica of Santa Margherita d’Antiochia, with its baroque style façade.

    After a short ferry ride, from Santa Margherita, you’ll arrive in Portofino. Begin your exploration in the main square, where your English speaking tour escort will offer some general information on the quaint village, before giving you approximately one hour of free time to explore the narrow streets of this charming town, which are surrounded by beautiful villas with gardens full of tropical plants and Mediterranean olive trees.

    The most elegant boutiques and many cafés will certainly enchant your stay. At a time specified by your escort, you’ll meet up to walk back to the coach park for the return drive to Rapallo.

    On arrival in Genoa, a panoramic tour will introduce you to many of the historic sights, including the former home of Columbus. St George Palace, once the seat of the Captain of the People; and the first bank in Italy.

    Afterwards, your guide will take you on a walking tour to discover a network of alleyways and the secrets within the walled courtyards of Genoa. You’ll see San Lorenzo Cathedral, which has striking bands of black and white marble. You’ll also visit the fine 16th Century courtyard of the elegant Palazzo Ducale, which was once the seat of the Doges of Genoa.

    After your guided tour, you’ll have around 1 hour of free time. Wander the charming cobbled streets of the old town, or visit the new marina area and famous Genoa Aquarium. Alternatively, you may wish to relax and enjoy a leisurely lunch, tasting some of the wonderful local cuisine such as ‘trofie’ and ‘cheese focaccia’.

    Travelling on the motorway to Manarola, you’ll capture the delightful coastal landscape along the way, and see the steep rugged and often vertical cliffs down to the sea below.

    You’ll arrive into Manarola, where your guide will give you a brief introduction before enjoying some free time to absorb the beautiful surroundings.

    Afterwards, you’ll board a boat for a scenic 45-minute Mediterranean coastal cruise along the peninsula of the Cinque Terre. The breath-taking scenic beauty, charm and romance of this area is so intense, it's almost unfair. The National Park status helps protect the way of life, as well as the environment.

    Your cruise will lead you to Monterosso al Mare, probably the most famous of the 5 lands for the characteristic historical center. After a guided introduction and a tasty snack with local wine, you will have free time to explore the tiny shops and quaint streets.

    Afterwards, a short train ride will take you to Levanto where you’ll rejoin your coach for the journey back to Rapallo.


    This excursion operates by coach, boat, train and on foot.This tour involves approximately 2 hours of walking, which includes some uneven ground. There are around 100 steps to negotiate throughout the tour. Flat, non-slip walking shoes are essential. Guests are advised to take sun protection, a bottle of water and Euros for purchases. In the event of poor sea conditions transfers from village to village will be replaced by train. The train is a local service and is not exclusive to Cunard Line.
