Agadir, Morocco - Mediterranean cruises

Skirting arid sands and desert oases, you’ll head up into the foothills of the Anti-Atlas Mountains, along the Atlantic coast and through sleepy Berber villages to discover a different side of Morocco.

Your first stop is the picturesque fishing village of Tifnit, a traditional Berber village, nestling in a hollow cove with a fine sandy beach.

Continuing your adventure along Sidi Rbat sandy dunes, you’ll reach Massa. Massa is a nature reserve; part coastal lagoon, part river and home to a variety of birds especially the pink flamingo. Have your camera at the ready as you take some time to stretch your legs and do a spot of bird watching.

Afterwards, drive to a traditional Berber village, where you’ll enjoy a Moroccan feast of sweet honey, rustic bread, tender meats, fresh fruit and vegetables.

The return journey takes you past the Massa Valley and Morocco’s Atlantic coastline, driving along miles of golden beaches.


This excursion operates by 4x4 vehicle and on foot. This tour is not recommended for guests with back problems as the terrain can be bumpy. There’s one guide for every 3-4 vehicles.

Visit the city of Taroudant, one of the oldest cities in Morocco, surrounded by ramparts. It is sometimes referred to as the ‘Little Marrakech’ and has rarely altered over time. You’ll see some of the history of this Berber market town as you explore the area. Its colourful souks are brimming with spices, wonderful handicrafts and leather goods. Enjoy some free time to browse the stalls and try your hand at the art of haggling.

On your journey, you may catch a glimpse of the famous tree climbing goats on top of the Argan trees.

Afterwards, discover a local farm in the heart of the fertlile Souss Valley where banana and orange groves flourish amongst extensive vegetable crops.

Immerse yourself in the idyllic atmosphere of the farm as you stroll through the grounds, discussing its traditions and operation with your hosts. During your visit, you will be offered delicious homemade farmers’ breakfast before returning to Agadir.


This tour operates by coach and on foot. Please note the vendors at the souks can be very persistent. There is approximately 1½ hours of walking on this tour. Uneven ground and steps must be negotiated at the farm and souk. Comfortable flat shoes are recommended.

Enjoy a scenic tour past the new and old fishing port of Agadir, and up to the hill that dominates the city, to the old Kasbah. Here, you’ll stop briefly to capture spectacular views over the city and bay of Agadir. During your journey you will learn about the devastating earthquake that hit the city in 1961.

Continue through the city for a photo stop at the Talborjt Mosque, a wonder of Moroccan architecture. Along the way to the Corniche, you‘ll pass the tourist resort with its beach hotels and fancy restaurants.

Your final stop will be at the Agadir Corniche. During your free time here, you can mingle with the residents who like to take a leisurely stroll along the ever popular cornice.

Browse the boutiques and souvenir shops or sip a refreshing drink in one of the new Marina cafés before returning to ship.

Agadir is a Berber word for a communal fortified granary, an inappropriate tribal name for a city whose history is full of foreign powers and ruling sultans. Destroyed by an earthquake in 1960, Agadir is now a completely modern city, an all-season resort town and an eternal jewel of the south.

Begin your excursion with a short drive to the ‘Kasbah.‘ Its’ elevated position affords you the oportunity to capture the spectacular views out over the bay of Agadir.

Continue your drive towards the city, stopping en route for a photo opportunity at the Talborjt Mosque, a wonder of Moroccan architecture.

Complete your tour with a visit to the bustling Souk EL Had, a marketplace that echos with the shouts of haggling merchants. Stimulate your senses with the heavy fragrances of herbs and spices. After a guided tour, free time will be given to browse the array of spices, leather goods and souvenirs before returning to the ship.

Depart the pier to the Old Kasbah where you can take in the panoramic views across the bay.

After a short drive, you’ll arrive at ‘Agadir Fantasia’, where you will discover the charms of true Moroccan hospitality with a spectacular ‘Fantasia Show’.

The acrobats and folklore troop begin the show along with regional live music. Outside the tent, the horses will take centre stage and delight you with their formations and trickery. During the show you’ll be served Moroccan mint tea and cookies.

Afterwards, you’ll visit the El Had Souk , a kaledioscope of vibrant colours with aromas of herbs and spices. Enjoy some free time to browse the stalls where you can purchase anything from assorted spices to handmade leather slippers.
