Aruba (from Oranjestad) - Caribbean Cruises

Aruba is the Caribbean, but with a charming rugged edge. Brightly coloured houses, vibrant street life and a distinct buzz in the air, are all part of the experience when you visit the Schooner Market and watch merchants sell exotic fruit and fresh fish direct from tiny boats. Keen golfers should take a tip and reserve a round at the Tierra del Sol course.

  • Hidden Gems of Aruba

An opportunity to visit the underground world of Guadirikiri and Fontein Cave’s.

    Hidden Gems of Aruba

Embark on a scenic drive through Oranjestad, pausing for photographs at Lourdes Grotto, a unique Roman Catholic shrine built into the rocks. You’ll also make a brief stop at one of Aruba’s recent developments; Linear Park, a vast walkway extending for ten miles and poised to become the largest one of its kind in the Caribbean.

Continue towards Arikok National Park, where you’ll find Guadirikiri Cave and Fontein Cave. The most popular of the caves is Fontein Cave, which boasts native Arawak drawings on the ceilings, providing a real sense of the island’s history and its former inhabitants.

Afterwards, visit Guadirikiri Cave, famous for its two chambers, illuminated by bright sunlight which streams through the holes in the roof of the cave. Extending around 100 feet, the darker areas of the cave provide the perfect resting place for nocturnal bats.

Your journey back to the pier will take you via Frenchman’s Pass. Legend has it that French pirates who attempted to invade Aruba in the early 17th century were confronted by Indians in this narrow passage, which led to the name Frenchman’s Pass.

This excursion will operate by bus and on foot. There is approximately 1½ hours of walking on this tour, some of which is over uneven ground, as well as around 20 steps to negotiate. The ground inside the caves can be slippery, therefore suitable footwear must be worn. Any guests wearing unsuitable footwear such as flip flops, will be unable to participate. Parts of the cave are dark; a helmet will be provided, as well as a flashlight (one per two guests). A bottle of water will also be provided during the tour. The bats are in their natural environment and may not be visible during your visit.
