    WITCHES RETREAT

Take a trip to Rose Hall, one of the most famous residences in Montego Bay, steeped in history, myths and legends.

Rose Hall is the largest existing plantation great house in the Caribbean. This Georgian mansion was home to one of the most bewitchingly beautiful women on the island, Annie Palmer, the White Witch of Rose Hall. Annie is reported to have been alluring and dabbled in voodoo practises, tortured slaves, murdered three husbands and several lovers before meeting her fate at the hands of one of her own slaves.

Built of hand- cut stone in 1760, this great house was damaged during the 1831 slave rebellion and unoccupied thereafter, perhaps due to the ghost of the White Witch. Rose Hall has been meticulously restored to reflect its former glory in the days of the British Empire.

After a tour of the house, you can relax in Annie’s Pub formerly the dungeon, and sip some witches brew – a house special, before returning to the ship.

Note: This tour involves approximately 1-1½ hours’ of walking over some rough and uneven ground including steps. Comfortable, flat walking shoes are recommended. The duration of this tour may vary, depending on local traffic conditions.

Described as the finest antique museum in the Caribbean, Greenwood House is one of Jamaica’s great houses. From floor to ceiling, the House is magnificently decorated with authentic antiques.

Greenwood House was built in the early 18th century by Sir Richard Barrett, cousin of Elizabeth Barrett-Browning, a prominent poet of the Victorian era. The House was one of the few great houses to escape damage in the 1831 Christmas rebellion, and is currently occupied by the present owners.

Among the genuine treasures are an in inlaid rosewood piano, a first edition library, many fine portraits and a rare collection of antique musical instruments, including a barrel organ.

From the elegance of Greenwood, continue on a sightseeing drive, before returning to the port

Note: The entrance to Greenwood House is on a slight decline. There is some rough ground and paved walkways leading from the coach park to the Great House. There are two staircases inside the house. Comfortable, flat shoes are recommended.
