  • Gothenburg & Christmas Market

The festive Liseberg Christmas Market is a highlight in the Swedish calendar attracting visitors from all over the world.

    Gothenburg & Christmas Market

Begin your tour with a panoramic drive of ‘The Christmas City’ of Gothenburg. Drive up to the Masthuggs Church for a magnificent view of the city and the port area. Then, pass Götaplatsen, with the famous Poseidon Fountain, by Carl Milles, the Museum of Fine Arts, the Concert Hall and the Municipal Theatre. From here you’ll drive along the main street and Grand Boulevard en route to the Fish Market and then you’ll arrive at the highlight of your tour – Liseberg.

Liseberg Park is transformed at Christmas time with Christmas trees, garlands and millions of sparkling lights. The market stalls are rustic cabins offering unique traditional arts and crafts, knitwear and homemade delicacies that make perfect Christmas gifts. The Market opens at 3pm and you will have an hour to stroll around the grounds and explore the 80 or more cabins packed with Christmas fayre. Why not try some hot-spiced wine, pause and listen to one of the choirs singing Christmas carols, or take a ride on a carousel. The choice is yours.

This excursion will operate by coach and on foot. As this is an open-air market we recommend you wear warm clothing and flat, comfortable shoes. Events or attractions, which have a fare within the park, are payable directly and not included in the tour. Belongings should not be left on any tour coaches as you may not return to the ship on the same coach.

  • Christmas at Tjoloholm Manor

Visit the beautiful and well-preserved Tjolöholm Manor, located to the south of Gothenburg.

    Christmas at Tjoloholm Manor

Sweden’s west coast is her sunshine coast and has become the most popular holiday region in the country. The area is dotted with picturesque fishing villages, inlets and idyllic coastal resorts. During your journey you will pass Fjärås Bräcka, situated by beautiful Lake Lygnern, one of the most remarkable and impressive glacial sea formations in the country.

Located on a peninsula is one of Sweden's attractions, a beautiful Elizabethan style manor. Built between 1898 and 1904, the exterior has a Tudor style, but inside is a brilliant example of art nouveau and craftsmanship in the spirit of William Morris. The Manor was heated by a piped hot-air system, in spite of the many fireplaces. The three bathrooms were fitted with showers and sunken baths and the Estate had its own electricity generator. In order to keep the wall-to-wall carpets clean, a horse-drawn vacuum cleaner was pulled around the outside of the house and thick hoses were pushed into the rooms through the windows. Before you leave you’ll take part in a typical Swedish tradition – a glass of warm ‘Glogg’ (mulled wine) and ginger biscuits served in front of the fireplace.

This tour will operate by coach and on foot. Photography is not permitted inside the Manor House. Protective overshoes are provided, which can make the floor slippery therefore care should be taken.

  • City Panorama

Enjoy a glimpse of Sweden's second largest city.

    City Panorama

Designed by Dutch architects, Gothenburg is reminiscent of Amsterdam with its network of streets separated by canals. Its wealth of parks and open spaces has given Gothenburg a reputation as Sweden's greenest city.

Your panoramic drive will take you up behind the port to Masthuggs Church for a spectacular view, then on to Götaplatsen, the cultural hub of the city, flanked by the Museum of Fine Arts, the Concert Hall, the Municipal Theatre and the Library. The Square is dominated by Carl Milles' imposing sculpture of Poseidon.

Travel along Gothenburg's loveliest and busiest street, Avenyn, passing the City Hall, the Court House and the Stock Exchange. The aptly named Fish Church is located on the Rosenlunds Canal and resembles a place of worship, but is actually an indoor fish market. Enjoy a short stop at the ‘Feskekyrkan’ to take a look at the day's catch.

This excursion will operate by coach. There is very little walking involved on this excursion. The fish market is closed on a Sunday and Monday, and will not be included on these days.

  • Gothenburg, Lights & The Singing Christmas Tree

Embrace the festive season with a tour of the ’Christmas City’ and a unique carol concert.

Gothenburg, Lights & The Singing Christmas Tree

Begin your tour with a short panoramic tour of Gothenburg, the ‘Christmas City’. In 2004, an initiative was introduced to bring warmth and cheer to the city centre in wintertime. The Christmas City was born. Today facades of buildings are bathed in light, trees are outlined in thousands of blue bulbs, fresh garlands and wreaths are strewn everywhere. It is simply – seasonal, elegant and innovative.

A stop at Masthuggs Church allows a magnificent view of Gothenburg and the port. Avenyen, the main street and the Grand Boulevard of Gothenburg is host to many restaurants, bars and shops and at Gustav Adolfs Square, you will also see the City Hall, the Court House and the Stock Exchange. Götaplatsen is the cultural hub of the city and the destination for your Christmas Light Show. A festive film is projected onto the giant façade of the National Art Museum, its mammoth columns becoming a playground for dancing images. A magnificent performance of light and sound is given against the walls.

Next, make a stop at "The Singing Christmas Tree", one of Gothenburg’s most popular outdoor attractions for a short performance of carols and Christmas songs sung by the city’s finest choirs.

As you drive through this festive city you will get a glimpse of the entrance to Liseberg, the biggest Christmas Market in Scandinavia which for the season is decorated with almost 5 million Christmas lights.

This tour will operate by coach and on foot. There is very little walking involved on this excursion. The commentary for the light show will be in Swedish.
