    Visit Tallinn’s Lower Town, where romantic narrow streets, little shops and cafés are typically found. Some of the old merchants’ houses have developed new uses for serving the busy citizens of Tallinn, whilst retaining their wonderful medieval atmosphere.

    During your tour, your guide will introduce to you some of the best little souvenir shops located in Catherine’s Passage in the Old Town, selling only authentic Estonian handicrafts. This is one of the most romantic places in Tallinn and has been used in films as a backdrop for both medieval London and Paris during the Musketeers’ era.

    After a walking tour of the area, you will visit local restaurant located near to the Viru Gates to enjoy refreshments and some wonderful live music.

    Join a small group and compare how the aristocrats of Tallinn lived, against the working class in the countryside.

    Your tour begins with a drive past the city’s medieval walls, towards Toompea Hill, more commonly referred to as ‘Upper Old Town’. Closely linked to the history of rulers in Estonia, today it is the centre of the Government of Estonia. During a guided walking tour, you’ll see the pink stone castle that today is home to Estonia’s parliament, as well as Pikk Hermann, a medieval stone tower standing at an impressive 150 feet.

    Continue on foot through the narrow lanes passing aristocratic homes and palaces along the way. Listen carefully as your knowledgeable guide brings to life the history of their former residents. Upon reaching Palace Square, you’ll see the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, a reminder of the years Estonia spent under Russian rule. You’ll also see St Mary’s Cathedral which dates back to the 15th century.

    Re-join your coach and travel to Rocca al Mare Open Air Museum. Showcasing Estonia’s rural architecture and way of life, you’ll soon see the contrast between the aristocrat’s and the working class. The farm complexes within the museum will provide you with an insight into traditional Estonian village life. Like any typical village, you’ll find a church, school house, shops, an inn and a fire station.

    Complete your visit with a refreshing cup of coffee or tea, accompanied by a piece of barley cake.

    Step through Nun’s Gate and into the Medieval Lower Old Town to begin your guided walk through the narrow cobbled streets of Tallinn. As you wander through the Old Town, you will pass beautiful medieval houses, the Gothic Town Hall and the charming 15th Century Apothecary, Listen closely as your guide tells a tale of how the city was once a key commercial city within the Hanseatic League.

    You’ll have a chance to rest your feet during your transfer to the Saku Estate and Estonia’s oldest brewery. Documents show that beer was being brewed here as long ago as 1820. Join a tour of the brewery where you will learn about the history, processes, variety and storage of Saku beers. Ensure to listen carefully as all of your new knowledge will be tested when you are presented with a selection of the beers to sample, accompanied by some local snacks.


    There is approximately two hours of walking on this excursion. Flat, comfortable shoes are recommended. Due to varying production times at the brewery, the machines may not be operating during your visit. Guests are required to negotiate approximately 45 steps at the brewery.

    This delightful tour allows you to explore both levels of the medieval city of Tallinn and the surrounding areas too.

    Begin your tour with a drive to the Song Festival Grounds for a photograph stop. Then, leave your coach at Tall Hermann Tower for a walking tour of Tallinn’s Upper Old Town, including the baroque Toompea Castle on Toompea Hill. Alexander Nevsky Russian Orthodox Cathedral dominates Palace Square and you will have a chance to step inside and view its golden icons and mosaics.

    Continue on foot along the medieval cobbled streets to visit the gothic Dome Church, the city’s oldest church. From a scenic viewpoint you will have wonderful views of the Lower Old Town rooftops, before descending to the Lower Town itself. Stop in Town Hall Square for some free time before relaxing over luncheon in one of Tallinn's typical old town restaurants.

    A visit to an historical residence will include a wonderful concert of traditional medieval music. In Catherine’s Passage there will be free time for shopping at the craft workshops, where glass, leather and ceramic wares can often be seen in production.

    Enjoy a sightseeing drive through Tallinn's historic centre with photographic stops en route. Drive past Kadriorg Park, founded by Peter the Great in honour of his wife Catherine I. Then continue to the Song Festival Grounds where Estonian song festivals are held here every five years with up to 30,000 performers singing to a capacity of 300,000 spectators.

    Pass by the well-preserved 15th century ruins of St Bridget's Convent and the Forest Cemetery where many prominent Estonians are buried in a natural pinewood setting.

    In the district of Pirita you will see the Olympic Yachting Complex located outside of the city before arriving at Tallinn's Old Town. Disembark your coach at Tall Hermann Tower for a short walk up to Toompea Hill to Palace Square. View the baroque Toompea Castle, home to the Estonian Parliament, and visit the Russian Orthodox Church of St. Alexander Nevsky and the 13th century Dome Church.

    After walking through the Upper Old Town to a wonderful viewpoint overlooking the Lower Town, you can appreciate a wonderful panorama of towers and steeples rising above the cluster of red-tiled roofs. There will be a short time for shopping here.

  • Free Time at Three Sites

    Explore three of Tallinn’s highlights at your own leisure.

    Once you board your coach for your three stop transfer, you will be given a map of Tallinn, so you can plan your free time.

    The first stop is Kadriorg Park, an imperial park in the centre of a residential section of Tallinn. It is now a favorite place for locals to relax, as well as home to museums and coffee shops. You could visit the Foreign Art Museum in Kadriorg Palace, marvel at both classical and contemporary Estonian art in KUMU, or wave to the guards outside the Presidential Palace.

    The Upper Town is your next destination. Gaze at the onion domes of the Russian Orthodox Church of Alexander Nevsky and Toompea Castle (the seat of the Estonian Parliament). Make your way through the narrow streets to the viewing platforms that present a picturesque view over the red rooftops of the Lower Town.

    As you head towards your final stop in the city centre you will pass Schnelli Park and Pond, and the Baltic Railways Station. Visit Town Hall Square and discover the pleasant neighbourhood streets of the Old Town where you can take a break in a local café or shop for local souvenirs.


    This excursion will operate by coach and on foot. The museums in the Kadriorg Park area are closed on Mondays. The amount of free time allocated to each stop is approximately 1¼ hours. A tour assistant will be on hand to provide practical information about where and when to meet for the onward transportation. Please note that the assistant is not a tour guide. A map of Tallinn will be provided. No entrance fees are included in the tour price. The order in which sites are visited may vary to avoid overcrowding.

  • Tallinn by Bike

    Do something a little bit different and discover the charming town of Tallinn by bike.

    Join your knowledgeable guide at the pier, and following a safety briefing, hop on your bike and head off for an enjoyable ride through some of the lesser known areas of Tallinn.

    You’ll cycle past the City Hall and Patarei Prison, before arriving at Seaplane Harbour, where a stop will be made to allow you to capture photographs of the port and the former Sea Fortress.

    As you continue cycling through Tallinn’s charming narrow streets, you’ll pass beautiful wooden houses dating back to the late 19th century, which are typical of the ‘Kalamaja’ neighbourhood. Pause to view this former fishing district, before continuing through Telliskivi Creative City, a former industrial complex turned creative centre, which is now home to art studios, shops, and cosy cafés.

    Your cycle ride then takes you past the Towers’ Square to Lower Old Town. Enjoy a photograph stop at the Town Hall Square, before cycling back to the pier.

The cycle ride is over varying terrain, and includes some hills and steep inclines. Helmets are provided, which must be worn. Guests must be in a good physical condition and have previous experience riding a bike. Please wear comfortable footwear and clothing suitable for bike riding. The tour will operate in all weather conditions. Depending on the ship’s berth, there may be a five minute walk to the bike collection point.

    Do something a little bit different and explore Tallinn by Segway.

    Join your knowledgeable guide at the quayside and after a short shuttle bus ride to the lower old town, you’ll meet your awaiting Segway. Following a training session you’ll then head off for an enjoyable ride through upper and lower old town.

    Together with your segway, you’ll journey past some of the most important areas of this UNESCO World Heritage site. In the Upper Old Town you’ll pass by the parliament building and the impressive Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. You’ll also have the opportunity to admire the charming red rooftops and church spires in the Lower Old town.

    Your route then descends to Schnelli Park, bordering the Old Town, where you’ll ride along the imposing medieval city walls, remarkably still almost intact. Collect memories by taking photographs on the Town Hall Square with its famous gothic Town Hall.

    Before returning your segway, you’ll pass by St Olaf’s Church, which at one time in the Middle Ages was the tallest building in the world. Your tour will end in the lower old town, where you may choose to explore further or return directly to the ship via the shuttle bus.

    Admire the red rooftops of the medieval city before continuing your walk into the Lower Old Town, with a visit to a traditional Estonian restaurant. Here, you will be treated to a dessert known as ‘kama’. A local speciality, kama is a mixture of different grains, and has featured in traditional Estonian cuisine for many years. You will experience it mixed with fresh whipped cream. Enjoy this sweet treat with a cup of coffee before continuing to the very heart of the city, the Town Hall and square. Here you will have some free time for shopping at leisure.

    Round off your tour with a visit to a small medieval pub for a shot of spiced schnapps, then stroll to a local deli which, in addition to local food products, also sells a variety of wooden handicrafts, before returning to the port by coach.

During your hands-on experience you’ll learn about the history of the medieval sweet marzipan, which according to legend, originates from Estonia. Under the guidance of a local specialist you’ll take part in the centuries-old tradition of marzipan painting whilst enjoying a refreshing cup of coffee, accompanied by a pastry.

    Afterwards, your marzipan masterpiece will be packaged for you to take with you and enjoy later.
