Kingstown cruises

Capital of the Grenadines, St Vincent is the ultimate Caribbean cruise location. Set in the centre of a triangle formed by the world famous islands of St Lucia, Grenada and Barbados, St Vincent has been influenced by these and other celebrated tiny gems like Bequia and Mustique for many years. Today, this island has it all. From beaches and bays untouched by tourism to the latest and most luxurious resorts, St Vincent embodies every travel brochure cliché: but you’ll see for yourself that it is truly breathtaking, idyllic, perfect and pristine. Around a quarter of the island’s 110,000 population live in Kingstown, the capital, on the south side.

Kingstown’s Cultural Heritage

Kingstown is a lively, mini metropolis and cultural melting pot of people, music, art and flavours. You’ll see why it is known as the City of Arches as soon as you arrive and begin to admire the well preserved 19th century architecture, including St Mary’s Cathedral of the Assumption. From the tip of the 4,000 feet high volcano, La Soufrière, right down to the gold, black and white sand shores, St Vincent is an exciting island of many faces. Get a sense of its swash-buckling past at Kingstown by visiting Fort Charlotte and other battlements used in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Combining the true taste of St Vincent’s past and present, Kingston is just the place to learn how to mingle with the locals who call themselves Vincies. Spend even half a day here, and you’ll soon fall into the laid-back pace. Food is where imagination meets taste to awaken the senses. From fresh lobster and queen conch lambi to the more unusual local breadfruit delicacies, you can be sure you’ll be treated to some home-grown ingredients and the sweetest, tastiest spices.

Discover Kingstown

Creative cruise guests adore absorbing the sights and sounds of the market stalls between Upper and Lower Long Lane in Kingstown. The delicious smell of the street food makes you crave that taste of the Caribbean here in the heart of the Grenadines. Crowds of locals and explorers alike flow through the cobblestone alleys, narrow walkways and arches surrounded by steep hills. Fishmongers wheel their catch from the Bay Street wharf and friendly vendors invite you in to their boutiques to buy local and designer label items. Away from it all, take it easy St Vincent style in a hammock on your sandy beach of choice, sipping a rum cocktail or two.

Please note: The shore excursions listed are typical for this port. The full programme of shore excursions available for your cruise will be displayed on Cruise Personaliser at least 12 weeks prior to departure.

  • Atlantic Coast and Rum

Take a scenic drive along St Vincent’s Atlantic Coast and take a tour of the St. Vincent Rum Distillery.

    Atlantic Coast and Rum

Board your minibus for a picturesque drive along St. Vincent’s scenic Atlantic Coast as you head towards Georgetown, where the last functional rum-making distillery on the island is located. Sit back, relax and soak up the scenery during your journey.

Your knowledgeable guide will give the history of the islands and their relationship with sugar, pointing out interesting sights along the way. Keep an eye out for the sugar cane plants as they wave their spindly stalks in the sunlight.

A short photograph stop will be made at Black Point. This historic tunnel was dug during the height of the slave trade and was important in the transport of the molasses for the making of the rum.

Upon your arrival in Georgetown, you’ll have a full tour of the distillery, seeing the process from start to finish. The distillery produces rum which is over 80% proof, one of the strongest in the Caribbean. Finish your tour with a rum tasting and some time for shopping to purchase souvenirs.

This tour is operated by minibus and on foot. There is some uneven ground and some steps at the distillery. Local currency or US dollars are required for purchases at the distillery.
