  • Helicopter Adventure to Montserrat

Take an amazing flight to Montserrat and over the ‘exclusion zone’, an area off limits to ground transportation and habitation since 1997.

    Helicopter Adventure to Montserrat

An experience not to be missed……………

Enjoy the 30 mile flight over the sparkling turquoise Caribbean waters to the neighbouring island of Montserrat. Here, at the centre of the ‘exclusion zone’ is the live and volatile Soufrière Hills Volcano, which can only be seen close up by helicopter. Rising to an impressive 3,000 feet and dominating the island, it towers above the Tar River Gorge and Delta at its foot and frequently emits a combination of ash, smoke and steam.

In 1997 when the volcano erupted, two-thirds of the island were made uninhabitable. View the massive destruction as you fly over a collection of evacuated villages, the previous location of the WH Bramble Airport and the charred remains of the former capital, Plymouth, in some places buried under 40 feet of ash.

After travelling along the east coast, you’ll leave Montserrat behind, and fly back to Antigua with beautiful views of the island and coastline.

This excursion will operate by minibus and helicopter. This tour is non refundable once booked. All guests are required to take their passports. You will be contacted on board regarding your flight times. There is a strict weight restriction of 16½ stone per person and a height restriction of six feet and four inches. Your weight and height will be requested on board and must be accurate, as this determines the helicopter configuration. If a guest is over the stated restrictions they will be charged for an additional seat. Two sizes of helicopter will be used for this tour, depending on the number of passengers booked. One helicopter has a maximum capacity of four seats; the other has a maximum capacity of six seats. The seats are configured with one middle seat, which affords views out of both sides, but is not directly beside a window. Preferred seating and flight times cannot be guaranteed. Total flight time is around 40 minutes. Guests are provided with headsets for intercom communication with the pilot and one another.
