Newcastle cruises

Located on the northern bank of the formidable River Tyne, Newcastle is a spectacular blend of municipal elegance, remarkable heritage and natural beauty. Considered to be north east England’s regional capital, this former industrial giant began as a Roman fort on Hadrian’s Wall before the Normans built their ‘new castle’ on the site, some of which remains within the fortress you see today.

The 60 mile River Tyne has been instrumental in the growth of Newcastle as its main export pathway from surrounding coalfields through the centuries. The quayside has remained at the heart of the city with its warehouses, mills and factories from the industrial boom and the age of shipbuilding now transformed into museums, galleries, trendy bars and restaurants. Enjoy all this and more in the landscaped promenade and cultural quarter which play host to events, fairs and festivals all year round.

Around the city, take in renowned sites such as the symbolic Tyne Bridge, the Angel of the North, the historic cathedral and the Victorian grace of Grainger Town. Unmissable nearby destinations like Whitley Bay and Tynemouth provide unspoilt coastline and surf beaches to explore. Further afield, Newcastle’s neighbouring highlights include the untamed and strikingly beautiful Cheviot Hills, Northumberland National Park, the North Pennines and Town Moor parkland.
