    Your journey from Civitavecchia takes you through the beautiful Italian countryside, heading towards the Lazio region of central Italy and onto the ancient town of Viterbo.

    Upon arrival your guide will take you on a delightful walking tour through the cobblestoned streets, passing Piazza del Plebiscito and Piazza del Gesύ, where some of the best preserved buildings can be seen. An inside visit of The Cathedral of Saint Lorenzo, one of the town’s most important monuments, will show you beautiful Romanesque style architecture.

    Enjoy an exterior view of the imposing Pope’s Palace (Palazzi dei Papi). The Palace once served as the Pope’s country residence and is one of the main attractions of Viterbo. See for yourself why the pontiff chose this wonderful location as a countryside retreat.

    Your walking tour ends at the Quartiere San Pellegrino District, where some free time will be given for you to explore independently.

    A fun and unique way to explore the oldest area of Barcelona - the Gothic Quarter.

    With your fellow cyclists, your guided bike ride will begin in the popular Ciutadella Park. Originally a fortress designed for King Felipe V, the Park now offers a small boating lake with stunning orange groves and a variety of parrots that live in the palm trees.

    During the two and half hour bike ride, you’ll pass by the Zoological Museum, Parliament, Arc del Triumph and Palau de la Musica until you reach the Old Town’s Gothic Cathedral. Here you will have some free time for shopping or to explore the Cathedral independently.

    The tour continues through the famous and colourful avenue of Las Ramblas, passing through historic squares. Soak up the history and admire the beautiful old buildings as you cycle through the very narrow streets lined with unusual shops. From Columbus Square, the route will take you back to the Ciutadella Park, passing through the Moll de la Fusta, Passeig Maritim and Port Olimpic.

    Note: You will transfer by coach to Citadel Park to prepare for your cycling tour and by coach back to the ship at the end of your tour. A safety briefing will be given and cycle helmets are compulsory. The cycle ride is mostly through pedestrian areas along cycle paths and is approximately five miles in distance, at an intermediate level of activity. Before you book this excursion, you must refer to the ‘Activity Excursion’ paragraph under the Guide to Symbols in this brochure. The minimum age for participation on this tour is eight years old.

    Absorb the tranquil atmosphere of Exbury Gardens as you wander around the stunning gardens which are bursting with beautiful colours.

    Your journey will take you through the beautiful New Forest National Park, where you will have the chance to see the famous New Forest ponies which graze on the wild heathland, before arriving at Exbury Gardens. Created in the 1920’s, Exbury Gardens are a spectacular 200 acre site, world famous for the Rothschild collection of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, rare trees and shrubs. So spectacular are the gardens that the Queen of England enjoys private visits every year.

    The Gardens have been specially created to reflect the changing colours of nature throughout the different seasons. During the spring the magnolias, camellias, azaleas and wisteria burst into flower, whilst the Daffodil Meadow is a carpet of glorious gold. The spectacular collection of over ten thousand rhododendron specimens is at its best with its display of beautiful colours.

    During the tour there will be the opportunity to take a delightful 20 minute ride on a small narrow gauge steam railway to see parts of the Gardens not accessible on foot.

    The Gardens contain a quaint tearoom, which serves a delicious English cream tea (own expense), and an extensive gift shop selling an array of gifts and souvenirs.

    Note: There is up to three hours of leisurely walking, which is at guests’ discretion. The railway and main paths of the Gardens are wheelchair accessible. There is a buggy tour available on the day for those with limited mobility (additional expense, payable direct).

    The Roman City of Bath and the beautiful countryside which surrounds it, has been described as one of England's most beautiful places to visit. Bath is situated within the south west of England and is a 2,000 year old fabulous spa town, built around Britain’s only hot mineral springs.

    Bath offers a multitude of fantastic places to visit and is very easy to navigate on foot. Designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987, the city has some of the finest architectural sites in Europe and boasts a unique and diverse range of historic features, which attract people the world over.

    Your visit will begin with a panoramic tour of the city, with your guide bringing the city to life as you pass the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, the Royal Crescent, the Circus and the city’s parks, including Royal Victoria Park. There will be free time to explore at your own leisure, enjoy the many street performers, visit the Roman Baths Museum, discover Jane Austen’s connection to the city at the Jane Austen Centre or wander around the fabulous shops.

    This delightful tour incorporates the quaint town of Tuscania, with a visit to the countryside to sample the local delights.

    Take in the sights as you travel by motorway to the colourful Etruscan countryside, rich in vineyards and olive groves. A stop will be made at the quaint hill town of Tuscania. Your escort will show you the charming centre of this Etruscan settlement and describe how it developed in medieval times with magnificent walls, ramparts and churches. Alternatively you may wish to explore on your own.

    You will have some free time in the small town of Tuscania to wander the narrow cobblestoned streets and absorb the old town atmosphere.

    A highlight of your tour will be the visit to an ‘agriturismo’ farmhouse. The owners will welcome you and offer some samples of the organic regional specialties, including wonderful olive oils and local wine. There will also be an opportunity to purchase some of these delicious homemade products.

    Note: The walk from the coach to Tuscania town takes approximately 10-15 minutes over an incline and some cobblestoned surfaces. The shops in Tuscania are independently owned and shops may be closed during your visit. Tuscania is a small town and is noticeably quieter in the afternoon and during off peak season. There are steps to negotiate at the farmhouse. Flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Euros accepted for local purchases.

    Enjoy a VIP tour of the medieval town of Romsey with its stunning Abbey, interesting history and links to Florence Nightingale.

    Discover the medieval 7th century market town of Romsey. This quaint town with its tudor character and historical buildings is where the Prince and Princess of Wales began their honeymoon in 1981.

    Your first stop will be at the country estate of Embley Park, former home of Florence Nightingale. Florence, also known as ‘The Lady with the Lamp’ was the founder of modern nursing which began during the Crimean War. You’ll be shown an interesting presentation illustrating her pioneering work on nursing and sanitary reforms which she achieved during her life before taking a guided tour of the west wing of the grand house and gardens. Florence is said to have had a calling from God whilst seated beneath a giant cedar tree in the grounds. Refreshments of tea, coffee and cake will be served in the library.

    Nearby, at St Margaret’s Church, you’ll be able to see Florence’s grave with its ornate headstone. Thousands of people from all over the world come here annually on her birthday, the 12th May (International Nurses Day), to celebrate her contribution to health reformation.

    On arrival in the historic town centre of Romsey, you will receive a VIP welcome from the Mayor, in his colourful official robes, before visiting the beautiful stone 10th century Romsey Abbey. Inside the Abbey you’ll discover the fine Norman architecture, elaborate stonework, magnificent stained glass windows and interesting memorials as you hear of its history and how it managed to survive the Dissolution of Monasteries in 1538.

    Before returning to the ship, you’ll have around 30 minutes of free time to explore the historical town further or browse the boutiques and shops.

    Explore the narrow streets of old Monaco and enjoy a visit to the Palace’s state apartments and St Nicholas Cathedral.

    Upon arrival in to Monaco, your guided walking tour takes you through the narrow, twisting lanes and vaulted passageways of the old city. The picturesque buildings date back to the 14th century.

    The Royal Palace is located in the west end of the old city facing the Place du Palais and still retains its medieval towers. An audio player narrates the Palace’s highlights as you tour the ornate state apartments, including the first Empire-style Throne Room and the Chambre d’York.

    The St Nicholas Cathedral is built on the site of a 13th century church and is the site of the royal tombs. Princess Grace and Prince Rainier are interred in the cathedral, located in the heart of the old city. Thousands come each year to pay their respects.

    During your visit, you will have some free time to explore the old town of Monaco and to browse the many charming shops.

During these months an explanation of the exterior will be made and additional shopping time given. Photography is not permitted in the Royal Palace.     Enjoy an introduction to Barcelona’s historic heart, the Gothic Quarter, which exudes the very essence of the city.

    From the Monument of Columbus, enter the colourful boulevard known as La Rambla. The walking tour then begins from the oldest part of Barcelona, the Gothic Quarter, surrounded by the remains of Roman walls. This is an ‘island’ within the urban metropolis with narrow, tortuous streets of ancient stone and magnificent historical buildings.

    Moving into the Gothic Quarter, you will cross Plaça Reial to arrive at the site of the Palau de la Generalitat, a 15th century Gothic structure with a renaissance façade. After visiting Plaça Nova with its twin semi-circular towers of the well-preserved Roman Walls, and following the remaining ruins, you will arrive at the Cathedral, a Gothic structure dating from the 14th and 15th centuries.

    At the Boqueria Food Market, you will have a chance to browse the many food stalls and soak up the atmosphere of the place.

    Following the visit, there will be some free time for independent sightseeing and shopping before rejoining your coach back to the ship.

    Note: This tour involves a substantial amount of walking over some cobbled surfaces and steps. Comfortable, flat walking shoes are recommended. On festive days, a guided visit inside the Cathedral is not permitted, however there will be time to explore independently.     Visit the prestigious home of F.C. Barcelona – one of the biggest clubs in Europe and Europe’s largest football stadium.

    A short panoramic drive will take you past Via Layetana, Passeig Gracia and the Diagonal area. Heading into the Montjuic Mountain, you will be able to see the Olympic Ring, Olympic Stadium and a short photograph stop will be made at the mirador.

    Known locally as the Barça, Camp Nou is home to the city’s famous football club, F.C. Barcelona. This is one of the world’s richest football clubs and has more than 100,000 members. On arrival, you will go through the visiting team’s changing room, and continue along the corridor where players enter onto the ground. Afterwards, the guide will show you the press room and interview room.

    Football fans will enjoy a visit to the Barça Museum, which displays memorabilia and trophies. You will have an exterior view of the impressive stadium, built in 1957 and extended in 1982 to accommodate 98,000 seated fans. A guided tour will be followed by free time to explore independently. As you exit the ground, there will be an opportunity for souvenir shopping.

    Note: This tour involves a lot of standing, and there are many steps to be negotiated. Flat, comfortable shoes are recommended. Due to strict pre-match security procedures, this tour is subject to late cancellation. The management may also close parts of the stadium without notice. Crowds are to be expected.     As you walk through this treasure-filled city, the shadows of the past surround you. Images of the Roman Forum, the Colosseum and the Pantheon mingle with the splendour of the Vatican, the magic of the Trevi Fountain and the warmth of a hundred flower-filled piazzas.

    On arrival in Rome you will leave the coach for a full day of independent exploration. Wander through the shops or sample Italian cuisine at restaurants nearby. Venture further afield and discover as many of Rome’s treasures as your pace allows.

    This is the perfect opportunity to tailor your day to suit your needs and make the most of your time in this wonderful city.

    At a time specified by your hostess, you will meet up and walk back to the coach park for the return drive to Civitavecchia.

    No visit to Corsica would be complete without a visit to the Calanques, a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    From Ajaccio, your journey will take you north, gently climbing up the San Sebastiano Pass, which offers splendid views over the Sagone Gulf and up to the mountain peaks and summit of Monte Cinto.

    In the heart of the pretty Greek village of Cargèse are two churches, one Greek Orthodox and one Catholic. Religious rivalries have long since vanished and the priest and the curate often stand in for one another.

    View one of Corsica’s natural wonders, where incredible panoramas meet the eye at every turn. Calanques de Piana are a stretch of rose-coloured granite cliffs, which plunge sharply into the dark blue sea, giving a wonderfully vivid contrast of colour. The steeples, spires and unusual shapes range in colour from pink to deep red, and have been sculpted by Mother Nature over many centuries. Les Calanques are unique to this part of the island and have earned recognition from UNESCO as a World Heritage site.

    There will be time to admire the spectacular views and take plenty of photographs during your time at Les Calanques. A stop will be made for soft drink refreshment before taking the scenic drive back to Ajaccio.

    There will be an opportunity to ‘refuel’ during your tour, with an Italian-style luncheon.

    Note: Guests booking this tour will have privileged access to the Vatican Museum, avoiding the main bulk of the crowds and queues for entrance. This is a fast paced comprehensive tour with substantial walking. The itinerary is subject to local conditions. Please dress appropriately for entering churches.
