An experienced guide will bring the history of Quebec alive as you walk the charming cobblestone streets of the Old Town.

    Old Quebec Walking Tour

Perched on a hill overlooking the St Lawrence River, the Château Frontenac is the best known landmark in Quebec. It was here that Roosevelt, Churchill and MacKenzie King met to discuss strategies during World War II and it remains one of the most prominent landmarks of this old walled city. Located 200 feet above the waterway is Dufferin Terrace where Samuel de Champlain built his fort in 1620. From here, you will have a spectacular view of the St Lawrence River and distant Laurentian Mountains. The typical stone buildings surrounding the historic square, Place Royale, were once the homes of wealthy merchants. Place Royale is the birthplace of French civilisation in North America and is consequently one of the oldest settlements in the continent. Built and re-built several times, the square remains the heart of the Lower Town as well as being home to North America’s oldest standing Catholic church. From the Lower Town to the Upper Town you will enjoy a short funicular ride to reach Chateau Frontenac. The funicular first went into operation in 1879 and was reconstructed in 1946 following a fire. It was then revamped with modern technology in 1998 and is the only one of its kind in North America.

This excursion will operate by foot and funicular. There is approximately, 2½ hours of walking on this tour, however the distances are short and there is minimal uphill walking. Please bring along an umbrella or jacket in case of rain. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

A fascinating tour that will trace over 400 years of history in the heart of Canada's oldest incorporated city.

Enjoy a scenic drive passing by the prominent landmarks and historic buildings as your guide introduces the many fascinating personalities and events that make Saint John the greatest little city in the east.

Stopping on the west side of the city, you will visit the Carleton Martello Tower, a great place to survey the harbour from the old stone fort. The tower was built during the War of 1812 as a precaution against an American attack, and although sixteen such towers were constructed across Canada in the early 19th century, this is one of the few remaining.

One sight not to be missed when calling at Saint John, is the famous Reversing Falls at Fallsview Park. From the bluffs, your guide will explain how twice daily the powerful tides of the Bay of Fundy rise faster than the river can empty.

The Reversing Falls jet boat ride is an adventure you won’t want to miss.

On this exhilarating ride you will get up close to one of the world's most unique phenomena: the Reversing Falls.
