Andrew John Barber
Andrew John Barber - Spy & Espionage Expert

Andrew Barber is a former British diplomat with extensive knowledge of security and intelligence issues. His postings included Islamabad, Jakarta, Addis Ababa and Kuala Lumpur.

Andrew Barber now runs his own security and research consultancy company in Kuala Lumpur. He is the author of a series of books covering the East India Company and the history of Malaya, notably during the Second World War, and has recently completed, under pseudonym, a novel about espionage. He is a Fellow of the Royal Asiatic Society and has previously lectured on Cunard world voyages.

Dr Joe Golden - Meteorologist & Climate Change Scientist
Dr Joe Golden - Meteorologist & Climate Change Scientist

Dr Golden is a world-renowned expert on waterspouts and tornadoes, and has often been interviewed on live national network television news broadcasts, including ABC News' 'Nightline'.

Dr Golden’s early career began in Miami in the mid 1960‘s, as a Hurricane Specialist at the National Hurricane Center. He then pursued his research interest in tornadoes and severe storms at the National Severe Storms Laboratory, Norman, Oklahoma and led the formation of the original Tornado Intercept Project portrayed in the movie Twister. His team’s successful intercept of the Union City, Oklahoma tornado in May, 1973 and discovery of Doppler radar tornado signatures was honoured as one of the top ten scientific breakthroughs during a recent NOAA (US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) bi-centennial.

Dr Golden is known for his animated personality, and use of understandable, non-technical language. His talks are vividly illustrated with extensive colour slides and spectacular video footage of waterspouts, tornadoes, hurricanes and other weather phenomena.

Brian Finlayson
Brian Finlayson - Geographer

As an inveterate traveler, geography has provided Brian with extensive opportunities for travel, camera in hand. He has worked on physical geography projects all around Australia, in the UK, Switzerland, Spain, the Netherlands, Antarctica, the USA, Indonesia, South Africa, Taiwan, Laos, Singapore and China. His richly illustrated lectures have informed and entertained undergraduate and postgraduate students for decades.

Brian Finlayson was born in Rockhampton, Queensland and after completing secondary school he trained as a primary school teacher. Following two years teaching in rural Queensland he went to the University of Queensland in Brisbane, where he completed an honours degree in Geography. After a short stint lecturing at James Cook University in Townsville he went to the UK where he first completed a PhD in Geomorphology at Bristol University and then taught at Oxford University (Jesus College) before returning to Australia. The remainder of his career has been spent in the School of  Geography at the University of Melbourne in teaching and research in Physical Geography, specializing in geomorphology, spelaeology and environmental hydrology.

Jim Kennedy - Space Exploration

The former Director of NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre will share the excitement of Space Exploration past, present and future.

Jim Kennedy retired from NASA as the Director, John F. Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in 2007 after 36 years of service. As Director he was responsible for 15,000 men and women who processed, launched (and landed as appropriate) the Space Shuttle,  International Space Station and Expendable Launch Vehicles. His education includes a BS Mechanical Engineering from Auburn, Univeristy and MBA from Georgia Southern University.

Retirement has brought opportunities to tour with the Mannheim Steamroller Band, consult with the aerospace industry, and lecture on space exploration and leadership around the world (estimated 1,000 lectures to date). Jim is married to Bernadette and they have two children and four beautiful grandchildren.
