  • Nicholas Owen

    Nicholas Owen

    Nicholas Owen re-joined BBC News as a Presenter in 2007. He is involved in various charities, including Cancer Research UK, Kidney Cancer UK and he is an ambassador for The Prince's Trust. He has has four children - and three grandchildren.

    Nicholas was with ITN for over two decades, anchoring all its major bulletins, including Channel Four News and News at Ten. From 1994 to 2000 he was ITV's Royal Correspondent, playing a major role in reporting on the death and funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales.

    He started in journalism in 1964, working for the Surrey Mirror, then the Evening Standard and the Daily Telegraph, before spending seven years with the Financial Times. He went to the BBC in 1981, and ITN in 1984. He has appeared in many TV and radio programmes, including BBC1's Strictly Come Dancing in 2006; he hosts many corporate events, and is an after-dinner speaker.

    Stephen Payne

    Stephen Payne was the lead designer of Queen Mary 2. President of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects from 2007-2010, he has been awarded numerous honours including the OBE for services to shipping and appointment as a Royal Designer of Industry.

    Stephen was involved in the design and construction of numerous ships for Carnival Corporation from 1985-2010 culminating in the design of Seabourn Cruise Line’s new Odyssey class. He was also the project manager for the construction of Holland America Line’s MS Rotterdam.

    Nigel West is a military historian specialising in security and intelligence issues, and has written more than thirty books. The Sunday Times described him as ‘the unofficial historian of the secret services’ and the Observer voted him ‘the experts’ expert’.

    Mark Butterworth

    Based in Scotland, he is an expert in presenting current astronomical concepts through their historical background. He also specialises in understanding how popular astronomy was presented to the general public in the 18th and 19th century.

    Mark Butterworth studied Astronomy at St Andrews University and researches astronomical history. A frequent lecturer on the Astronomical Society speaker circuit he has given presentations at the Royal Astronomical Society’s annual National Astronomy Meeting, and other International Conferences. He is a regular contributor to Astronomical Journals and the popular press.
