Sweden's second city, a lovely whirl of parks and canals, is resolutely proud of its seafaring ties. The Maritime Museum celebrates all things nautical while the modern opera house resembles a classic ocean liner. Beyond the 'Avenue', filled with shops and eateries, you'll arrive at Gotaplatsen, the expansive central square graced by an eye-catching statue of the sea god Poseidon.

OPERA HOUSE
Built in 1994 in an enviable position overlooking the riverside, this is a spectacular building on the Goteburg landscape.

BOTANICAL GARDENS
Located in central Goteburg this 150 acre Botanical Garden is the largest in Northern Europe. The herb garden and the kitchen garden are popular with visitors, and the renowned rock garden is spectacular. The selection of flora and fauna on offer here is truly amazing.

ALVSBORGS FASTNING FORTRESS
Built in the 19th Century to protect Goteburg from from the Danes, this fortress and the island it resides on have been restored beautifully. You will reach the fortress on a 30 minute boat ride through the stunning archipelago which is a fantastic trip on its own. 

GUNNEBO CASTLE
This 18th Century neoclassical castle is located on the outskirts of the city, set within 100 acres it is also home to a beautiful park and forest.
